Tennis Odds: Nadal Departure Puts Federer in Promising Position

Betting on US Open Tennis

The recently announced withdrawal of Rafael Nadal from this year’s US
Open has sent the tennis betting community into a tailspin. Suddenly,
the possibilities of how it might unfold have opened up. Benefitting
most from the news is Roger Federer; the 33-year-old is 3/1 to win the
event.

Federer hasn’t won a US Open since 2007. He has had a string of elite
performances throughout the summer and has an opportunity to snap the
skid.

The revelation that Federer won’t have to face Nadal en route to a US
Open championship comes as a great relief. Federer has had little
success against Nadal.

The removal of Nadal from the tournament draw also shifts Novak
Djokovic to the No. 1 spot and out of Federer’s path until the finals.
There’s a good chance that both will meet then, but that could give the
Swiss vet ample opportunity to build momentum. Djokovic remains the US
Open favorite (6/5).

Federer hasn’t won a grand slam title since 2012, but he has played
well in tournaments all year long. In August alone he finished second at
the Rogers Cup and first at the Cincinnati Open. It’s hard, therefore,
to figure out exactly what Federer’s value might be heading forward.

With Nadal temporarily out of the picture, we’ll soon find out.
