ACC Coastal: Miami Hosts Georgia Tech for Division Top Spot

Hurricanes Look to Hold on to Top Spot

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the 11th- ranked Miami Hurricanes will meet in a critical ACC Coastal clash on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:20 pm EST. It will be televised nationally by ABC.

Oddsmakers have the Hurricanes favored by 6.5-points. The total is sitting at 51.

ACC Coastal is Cluttered at the Top and Miami Wants Breathing Room

Miami-FL won its last outing  24-20 against the Florida State Seminoles on October 07. Miami covered in that game as a -2.5-point favorite, while the 44 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

With a win today Miami can put some space between themselves and the two other undefeated teams and the lone one-loss teams in the ACC Coastal. A win over Georgia Tech would give the Jackets two losses in the conference. Virginia is 2-0, and Virginia Tech sits at 1-1.

The loss of running back Mark Walton to a season-ending ankle surgery will impact more than just Miami's running game. His replacement was a consistent special teams performer and was the special teams player of the game against Florida State. He may not be available on special teams today.

Walton's replacement is Travis Homer. He has been a key performer on Miami's special teams. He is eager though as he refused to take a break in last week's 24-20 victory over Florida State. Homer has rushed for 207 yards in a backup role behind Walton, averaging 8.3 yards a carry and catching five passes for 71 yards.

Walton is not the only injury the Canes' will be dealing with. Wide receiver Ahmmon Richards is questionable for this week with a hamstring injury. Guard Navaughn Donaldson also is questionable with an ankle injury.

Georgia Tech is the Forgotten ACC Coastal Team

Georgia Tech was a 33-7 winner in their most recent outing at home against North Carolina Tar Heels. They covered the -10-point spread as favorites, while the total score (40) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Georgia Tech comes into the game as the forgotten team in the ACC race. After losing the season-opener opener in overtime to Tennessee, by a 1/2 yard, they have rebounded. They couldn't hold onto a late fourth-quarter lead in the loss to the Vols.  The Yellow Jackets have rolled to three straight wins by an average score of 35-11.

Quarterback TaQuan Marshall has led the offense that is destroying opponents. They are out-gaining teams 396-102 yards a game rushing. Marshall accounts for about 131 of that himself.

The Yellow Jackets' have the ability to control the pace of the game with its punishing ground attack. The 396 yards per game, is second in the nation.
