MNF Preview: Redskins Look to Avoid Season Sweep by Eagles

Eagles Look to Take Commanding Lead of NFC East

The Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles meet on Monday Night Football. The game will be in Philly at Lincoln Financial Field. Kickoff is set for 8:30 and the game will be televised by ESPN.

The Eagles will attempt to take a commanding three-game lead in the NFC East. Philadelphia has won four games  in a row. Tonight they can complete a season sweep of the Redskins a victory. Philadelphia won the season opener 30-17 at Washington.

Oddsmakers opened the Eagles as -4-point favorites versus the Redskins, while the game's total opened at 48.5. The total has held steady, but the Eagles have crept up to a 5-point favorite.

Wentz is Coming Into His Own for Eagles

Philadelphia was a 28-23 winner in its last match on the road against the Carolina Panthers. They covered the +3-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 51 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.

Second-year quarterback Carson Wentz continued his outstanding play this season.  Against Carolina he improved his season numbers to 126 of 207 for 1,584 yards. You add in 13 touchdowns and only three interceptions and he  has vaulted himself into the early conversation for the league's Most Valuable Player award.

The Eagles could get a little healthier against Washington. The potential return of right tackle Lane Johnson and running back Wendell Smallwood would help. Both players practiced Tuesday as Johnson cleared concussion protocol. The swelling subsided in Smallwood's knee.

Cousins Looks to Continue Solid Play

In their last action, Washington was a 26-24 winner at home against the San Francisco 49ers. They failed to cover the -10.5-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (50) was profitable news for OVER bettors.

The Redskins pushed above .500 last week after the San Francisco 49ers. They jumped out to a 17-0 advantage and ended up having to rally to win.

Kirk Cousins has been very efficient this season. He has completed 105 of 158 passes for 1,334 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

Starting cornerbacks Bashaud Breeland (knee) and Josh Norman (rib) are both questionable. Running back Rob Kelley has ankle issues. Defensive lineman Jonathan Allen is already out with a Lisfranc injury and may be lost for the season.
