New England Patriots Host Atlanta After Epic Super Bowl Comeback

The fans at Gillette Stadium will see the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots when they take their seats on Sunday. This is a rematch of Super Bowl LI and one fans of both squads have been waiting for.  Gametime is set for 8:30 pm EST. NBC will televise the game nationally.

Oddsmakers opened the Patriots as -3.5-point favorites versus the Falcons, while the game's total opened at 53.5. The line now has the Patriots as 3-point favorites. The total has climbed to 57.

That was the score in the third quarter of last season's Super Bowl LI. The New England Patriots pulled off the greatest comeback in the history of the game. That comeback left the Atlanta Falcons and their fans stunned with a 34-28 loss. The win produced the fifth championship of the Bill Belichick/Tom Brady era.

Both teams have had their problems leading up to the rematch.

The Patriots had to rally from 14 points down to beat the New York Jets last week. Matt Ryan and the Falcons were dropping their second straight to fall to 3-2. Both losses at home and both against the AFC East teams.

New England Patriots Look to Protect Brady

New England won its last outing, a 24-17 result against the New York Jets on October 15. The Patriots failed to cover in that game as a -9-point favorite, while the 41 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

The Patriots struggled to keep Brady upright, until last week. The Jets didn't get to the quarterback. The Falcons come into this game tied for 21st in the league with 12 sacks.

What works for the Patriots is Brady having Gronkowski at his disposal. New England went 12-0 without the star tight end last season, BUT. The Patriots are a better team with Gronkowski on the field. After losing key receiver Julian Edelman for the season with a knee injury a healthy Gronk is a must.

Gronkowski caught six passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets.

Falcons Look to Stop 2nd Half Collapses

Last time out for Atlanta, they were a 20-17 loser as they battled the Miami Dolphins at home. The Falcons failed to cover in the match as a -14-point favorite, while 37 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

Atlanta was outscored a combined 36-7 in the second half by the Buffalo Bills and the Dolphins the last two weeks. They were outscored 20-0 by Miami last week.

The Falcons changed offensive coordinators since last season, but the early results under Steve Sarkisian haven't been great.
