Struggling Falcons On Road to Face the Jets

Falcons Face Last AFC East Team Today

The Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets will both be trying to pick up a win on Sunday when they battle at MetLife Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 pm EST. CBS Will have the telecast.

The Falcons will be glad their trek through the AFC East is over this week.

Atlanta lost last season's Super Bowl in epic fashion to the New England Patriots 34-28 in overtime. They blew a 28-3 third-quarter lead. This season the Falcons had to play not only the Patriots, but the entire AFC East. All in consecutive weeks. The last of those games comes today.

The first three of those games resulted in three straight losses to the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Patriots. Each of them got more embarrassing than the one before.

Oddsmakers opened the Falcons as -7-point favorites versus the Jets, while the game's total opened at 47. The Falcons are now 6.5-point favorites and the total is down to 44.

Falcons Look to get Offense on Track in Second Half

Last time out for Atlanta, they were a 23-7 loser as they battled the New England Patriots on the road. The Falcons failed to cover in the match as a +2.5-point underdog, while 30 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

The Falcons have scored only seven points in the last six quarters. The offense is averaging 21.3 points per game under new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. The Falcons scored 33.8 points per game when current 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan led the offense.

The Falcons have to get back to running the ball. Then maybe more play-action passes will open up to Julio Jones. He has 466 receiving yards in six games but scored his first touchdown only last week against New England.

Tevin Coleman has 229 rushing yards this season. Devonta Freeman has 425. This is for a total of 654, which is more than the combined total for the Jets' three running backs. Bilal Powell (283), Elijah McGuire (205) and Matt Forte (157), who have 645 at this point.

The Falcons are last in the league with three takeaways with one interception and two fumble recoveries.

Jets Looking for Consistency on Both Sides of the Ball

New York lost its last outing, a 31-28 result against the Miami Dolphins on October 22. The Jets earned a push in that game as a +3-point underdog, while the 59 combined points took the game OVER the total.

The Jets will be playing their first game this season against an NFC opponent. They are coming off two straight losses to division rivals. They held a 14-point lead in each.

They led 28-14 in Miami this past Sunday going into the fourth quarter. The Dolphins scored 17 unanswered points to win.

The Jets might be without cornerback Buster Skrine due to a concussion. He played all of Sunday's game in Miami but didn't complain of symptoms until he reported to the team facility on Monday.

The Jets lead the league with 546 penalty yards. This includes a whopping 12 for 124 yards against the Dolphins.
