World Series Game 4: Astros Look to Take Commanding Lead

MLB World Series

Astros Up 2-1 After Dominating Game 3 in World Series

The fans at Minute Maid Park will watch Game Four of the 2017 MLB World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros when they take their seats on Saturday. First Pitch is at 8:20 pm EST. FOX Sports will televise the game nationally.

Oddsmakers opened the Astros as -112-moneyline favorites versus the Dodgers, while the game's total opened at 8. The Astros are now -136-moneyline favorites. The total is up to 8.5.

After going through eight relief pitchers in Game 2. Then sending five more to the mound in Game 3 of the World Series Friday Night. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts faced questions regarding the state of his bullpen after a 5-3 loss.

Excluding Kenta Maeda, who worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings in Game 3, Roberts declared each member of his bullpen available for action Game 4. The Dodgers can't afford to go down 3-1 to the Astros.

Dodgers Need Wood to Go Deep in Game 4 of World Series

The Dodgers will trot Alex Wood out to the mound in this one. Left hander Wood has a 16-4 record and a 2.81 ERA this season. Wood has made just one start this postseason. He gave up three runs and four hits. Wood had seven strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings of Game 4 in the NLCS against the Chicago Cubs. The Dodgers dropped that game 3-2, their lone loss of that series.

Wood gets the ball with the Dodgers on the brink of a daunting deficit should they lose. But he is happy for the opportunity to start instead of relieve.

Wood will have a pressure-packed outing. He is equipped for the challenge. Wood led the majors in winning percentage after finishing 16-3 with a career-best 2.72 ERA in 27 appearances.

His 3.3 WAR was the second-best mark of his career. It only trailed the 3.7 WAR he had with the Atlanta Braves while finishing 11-11 with a 2.78 ERA in 2014.

Astros Turn to Morton in Game 3 of World Series

It'll be Charlie Morton toeing the rubber for the Astros in this contest. Right hander Morton is 15-8 with a 3.83 ERA so far this season.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch parlayed a tandem outing to positive results again. He rode right-handers Lance McCullers and Brad Peacock to victory in Game 3. He did the same with Charlie Morton and McCullers in Game 7 of the ALCS. Morton gets his first World Series start on Saturday at Minute Maid Park.

Peacock  made 21 starts for the Astros during the regular season. He covered the final 3 2/3 innings with hitless relief. Hinch was able to avoid dipping into his beleaguered corps of full-time relievers.

The possibility exists for Hinch to execute the same gambit Saturday. He has right-hander Collin McHugh poised to finish what the Astros hope is a strong start by Morton.
