The IBF World Welterweight title will be on the line this Saturday (9 PM ET, SHO) when reigning champion Errol Spence takes on Lamont Peterson at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Spence is a heavy –3500 favorite at press time after opening at –2250; Peterson, previously a two-time champ at welterweight and light welterweight, has fallen from +950 to +1200.

It’s been a meteoric rise to the top for Spence (22-0, 19 KOs). The former Golden Gloves champion failed to medal at the 2012 London Olympics, but he’s encountered little resistance since turning pro, beating the likes of Chris Algieri and Leonard Bundu before taking the IBF strap off Kell Brook (+124) in May – in Brook’s hometown of Sheffield, England.

Peterson (35-3-1, 17 KOs) vacated the WBA Regular Welterweight title in October so that he could fight Spence this Saturday. He’s six years older than Spence at age 33, but roughly the same size, and also a former Golden Gloves champion. Peterson has fought some of the best boxers in the business; he defeated Amir Khan for the WBA Super and IBF versions of the light welterweight title in 2011, one year after fighting Victor Ortiz to a controversial draw.
