MLB Monday Betting Preview & Pick- Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee Brewers

Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers Battle for First

The battle for first place in the NL Central Division race highlight’s Monday night’s series opener between the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers. BetAnySports has opened the Cubs as -123 road favorites for Monday night’s 8:05 p.m. (ET) start with the total set at 8.5 runs.

The Cubs are coming off a lopsided 7-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday as heavy -186 home favorites. This was just their third loss in their last 14 games. At 37-25 overall with a 18-12 record on the road, Chicago is just a half game in back of Milwaukee for the division lead.

The total stayed UNDER nine runs in Sunday’s loss. It has stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing line in six of the Cubs’ last seven games.

Cubs Have NL's Top Pitching Staff

As the top pitching team in the NL with a staff ERA of 3.21, Chicago is also climbing the ranks when it comes to runs scored (5.02). It will try and keep things rolling in the right direction with Jose Quintana on the mound for Game 1.

The right hander failed to get the decision his last time out against Philadelphia with two earned runs on three hits over 5 2/3 innings. His ERA through 12 starts is 4.20 with a 1.37 WHIP.

Milwaukee Brewers Barley Holding Onto NL Central Lead

Milwaukee has watched its lead in the NL Central dwindle with just four victories in its last 10 games. The Brewers have lost four of their last six. That includes a 4-3 setback against Philadelphia on Sunday as -119 road favorites.

They are 39-26 overall and they return home at 18-11 on the year. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last 10 outings, but they did hammer home a total of 27 runs in the three weekend games against the Phillies.

The Brewers are bit further down the list in the NL in scoring with an average of 4.4 runs per game. Their staff ERA is a solid 3.48 with Junior Guerra slated to get the start on Monday night. The right hander is 3-4 this season with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP through his first 11 starts.

He allowed three earned runs on seven hits in six innings pitched to pick up the loss against Cleveland last Tuesday.

The Cubs have won seven of the first eight meetings this season. They have a favorable matchup on the mound. I like their chances to pick up another win on Monday night as road favorites with BetAnySports.
