Red Sox and A's in Wednesday MLB Action

Oakland Athletics

Red Sox Looking to Find Pitching Against A's

The Boston Red Sox will take on the Oakland Athletics at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Wednesday night. The Red Sox finally received a solid performance from a starting pitcher. Their offense was terrible for a second straight game. They will try to put it all together against the Athletics tonight.

TV: 10:07 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), NBCS California (Oakland); LINE: Red Sox -137 on the moneyline; O/U: 8.5 Under +100.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Nathan Eovaldi (0-0, 10.80 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Marco Estrada (0-0, 2.45)

Red Sox Ace, Chris Sale limited Oakland to one run and three hits in six innings on Tuesday. He suffered the hard-luck loss as the Red Sox were shut out for the second consecutive game. This is shocking after the team scored a total of 24 runs in their season-opening four-game series at Seattle. Mike Fiers combined with three relievers to post what has become an expected strong performance by Oakland's pitching staff. The A's have registered three shutouts over their last six games. The squad has yielded a total of nine runs in that span, with six coming in their lone loss during the stretch. Slugger Khris Davis failed to homer Tuesday after going deep in four of the teams first five games. Matt Chapman has hit a creature in each of the first two games of the series.

This, That, and a Dart Throw

Boston's starters struggled in the season-opening series against Seattle. Eovaldi was no exception. He managed to last five innings in Friday's loss and escaped with a no-decision. He was lucky as he got battered for six runs on eight hits. Three of those were dingers. He also had two walks. Eovaldi has made six career starts against Oakland. His record is 1-2, while yielding 16 runs and 40 hits over 35 innings. The Red Sox have surrendered 15 home runs in their first six games, with the starting pitchers serving up 12.

The A's Estrada signed a one-year contract in January after spending four seasons with Toronto. He had issues in his team debut, but was superb in his second start. The Mexican native, gave up three runs and five hits (two homers) over five innings against Seattle in his first start with Oakland. Different results in his second start, as he allowed two hits in six scoreless innings versus the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. Estrada is 4-8 with a 4.68 ERA in 17 career appearances (15 starts) against Boston.

Prediction: Athletics 5, Red Sox 3
