The Finals: Raptors vs. Warriors Game 6

The Finals 2019 Raptors vs Warriors

Shorthanded Warriors Look to Force Game Seven Tonight

The Golden State Warriors have lived to fight another day. They lost Kevin Durant after tearing his right Achilles tendon early in the second period. Durant was looking sharp. The Warriors held on to beat the Raptors 106-105 Monday night as 1-point home dog. They forced tonight's Game 6 in Oakland.

Durant started Game 5 after practicing Sunday for the first time since he suffered a calf injury earlier in the Playoffs. He quickly scored 11 points in 12 minutes, including 3-of-3 from downtown. He left Scotiabank Arena on crutches and in a walking boot. Durant said on his Instagram account Wednesday that he underwent surgery. You know the Golden State squad will be thinking of him as it moves forward with its focus on winning two more games and claiming a third straight title. Kevon Looney also had to leave Monday’s game after aggravating the cartilage injury he suffered near his collarbone in Game 3 of the Finals. His status for Game 6 is uncertain.

The Raptors will make a second attempt at clinching their first NBA crown after letting a six-point lead with three minutes remaining slip away in Game 5. Lowry scored 18 points in Game 5 for his second-highest output of the series. He is just 1-of-10 from 3-point range over the past two games. That will have to improve for the Raptors to have a shot in Sacramento. Fred VanVleet has made 11 3-pointers in the series and has scored in double digits in four of the five games.

This, That, and a Dart Throw

Golden State prevailed, despite the injuries, by hitting 20 of their 42 3-pointers. Toronto shot just 8-of-32 from behind the arc. Kawhi Leonard was held to 26 points on 9-of-24 shooting. Pascal Siakam and Danny Green were 0-for-8 combined from long range, while Kyle Lowry was 1-for-6. Tonight's atmosphere will definitely be tougher.

DeMarcus Cousins was going to receive diminished minutes in Game 5 but Durant's injury led to more court time. The nine-year-veteran was a key factor with 14 points in 20 minutes. Cousins missed six-plus weeks with a quadriceps injury and is well aware that he and his teammates suffered a major blow with the loss of Durant. Stephen Curry is averaging 32.4 points in the series with a high of 47 and a low of 23.
