Red-Hot Stampeders Top CFL Betting Board, Face West Rival

The CFL's top two West Division teams will square off in a primetime bout this long weekend when the 6-2 Calgary Stampeders host the 5-3 Edmonton Eskimos on Monday afternoon.

Not only does the match serve as a potential preview of the league's West Division final, it also gives bettors an inside look at two heated story lines that ought to factor into any CFL betting decision.

Though both teams sit towards the top of the Grey Cup futures list, they?re headed in vastly opposite directions.

Having won their last four games, the Stampeders are well on their way to replicating last year?s success when they finished the 2010 campaign with the best record in Canadian football.

The Eskimos, on the other hand, after winning their first five games of the season have been in free fall ever since. With just 5/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup - a low mark considering six of the eight teams in the league make the playoffs - bettor confidence is obviously waning.

In contrast, the Stampeders have 9/4 odds of winning the CFL championship this fall. A mark even more optimistic than the 7-1 Blue Bombers and two-time reigning champion Alouettes.

Will the Stampeders continue their torrid run through the league or will the spotlight be all Edmonton needs to get their wayward season back on track?

The Stampeders won and covered at home in Week 6, beating the Tiger-Cats by a score of 32-20.

The Stampeders managed to cover the 3.5-point spread in that contest, while the combined score went OVER the night's posted total (50.5).

Darian Durant threw for 236 yards in the Roughriders' 24-11 loss to the Lions in Week 6.

The Lions managed to cover the 3.5-point spread at home in that contest, while the combined score fell UNDER the night's posted total (53.5).

Streaking Tiger-Cats Hit the Road Against Calgary

Lost in the shuffle of Edmonton's undefeated 2011 season and Montreal's bid for a third-straight Grey Cup title, there have been two CFL clubs that have quietly put their work in early this year and seen it pay off.

This Saturday the 3-2 Calgary Stampeders will host the 3-2 Hamilton Tiger-Cats as each looks to improve their position in their respective division coming off of significant Week 5 victories.

Have an idea of how the match up will unfold? Bet on the CFL with Bodog

For the hometown Stampeders it will be a third opportunity to win their first home game of 2011. Despite their above .500 record, is 3-0 on the road and winless at McMahon Stadium, a surprising trend for the team that finished with the top record in the CFL in 2010.

After struggling early, in Week 5 the Stampeders took down the reigning Grey Cup runner up Saskatchewan Roughriders. Will this Saturday serve as the next stepping stone for the franchise hungry to climb back into contention?

Coming off a victory over the Montreal Alouettes the Tiger-Cats are riding high and will be no easy opponent. After starting the season in a 0-2 hole, Hamilton has knocked off three straight with no signs of slowing down.

Is the momentum enough to vault them into the top of the East Division standings? They currently have 5/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup. The once-favored Stampeders currently sit third in the CFL with 7/2 odds.

Calgary Stampeders Struggle to Live Up to Odds in 2011

Lost in the early success of the Edmonton Eskimos is the fact that the top two teams in the West Division last year have struggled early in 2011. This week one of them will have a chance to salvage some momentum.

In a rematch of the 2010 West Division Finals, the Saskatchewan Roughriders will host the Calgary Stampeders Saturday at 9 PM EST.

Bet on the CFL with Bodog.

With a 1-3 mark through Week 4, the Roughriders are far from where they anticipated they would be to start the year after making it as far as they championship game last fall. They?ve struggle mightily on both sides of the ball, allowing a league-high 138 points against and scoring for themselves just 83.

All things considered, despite their success in 2010, the Roughriders have the second worst outlook on the CFL futures board with just 10/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup in the eight-team league.

The Stampeders are a bit of a different story. Though they finished last season with the CFL?s best record, their early exit at the hands of Saskatchewan spoiled the campaign. This time out expectations are high, despite their mixed success in the first month of the season.

Though Calgary has been towards the top of the CFL futures board all season (now with 4/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup), they sit at just .500 with a game log that includes losses to both the Toronto Argonauts and Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Will this be the week the Roughriders show a glimpse of the team that rallied to the Grey Cup last week? Or will the Stampeders crawl back above .500 in their pursuit of a West Division first-round playoff bye.
