NFL Week 5 Preview & Free Pick- Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions - Handicappers Hideaway

Detroit Lions Football

Eagles Going for 4-0 After Early Bye Week

The 3-0 Philadelphia Eagles return to action this Sunday from a bye
week as 2.5-point road favorites against the 1-3 Detroit Lions in a 1
p.m. (ET) start on FOX at Ford Field. BetAnySports has set the total line for the NFC tilt at 46.

The Philadelphia Eagles went into their bye week with a very
impressive 34-3 romp over in-state rival Pittsburgh. As four-point
underdogs at home, they played well over expectations. The total stayed
UNDER 46.5 points in that game. Total points in Philadelphia Eagles
games has now stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in all three of their
games. They also beat Cleveland as four-point home favorites and Chicago
on the road as three-point underdogs for the perfect start.
Philadelphia will head back on the road with a 4-1 record both
straight-up and against the spread in its last five road games.

The combination of rookie quarterback Carson Wentz and a shutdown
defense is largely responsible for the Eagles’ fast start. Wentz has yet
to throw an interception through his first three starts and he has
tossed five touchdown passes. The Philadelphia Eagle defense is allowing
the fewest points in the league. It is ranked sixth against the pass
and third against the run.

Lions Bad Defense and Struggling Offense without Megatron

Detroit fell to 1-3 on the year both SU and ATS with this past
Sunday’s 17-14 loss to Chicago as a three-point road favorite. The total
stayed UNDER 48 points on BetAnySports
closing line in that game. Detroit has now stayed UNDER in two of the
Lions’ last three games. They will return to Ford Field with a 3-7
record ATS in their last 10 home games. The total has gone OVER in six
of their last eight games at home.

The deep-rooted problems with this team on both sides of the ball
were clearly exposed in the loss to the Bears. Detroit’s offense has
struggled to move the ball this year. They have struggled Both on the
ground and through the air. The Lions defense surrendered over 400 total
yards to one of the worst offenses in the league. Matthew Strafford was
held to 197 yards passing. He was also picked off twice in Sunday’s
loss. The Lions are now ranked 22nd in the NFL in rushing with an average of 92.2 yards a game.

BetAnySports Prediction

I am looking for the Philadelphia Eagles to keep things rolling this Sunday with a SU win that easily covers BetAnySports
current 2.5-point spread. That overall gap in talent on both sides of
the ball is just too wide for Detroit to keep things close.

Pennsylvania bragging rights will be on the line this Thursday night at
Heinz Field when the Philadelphia Eagles head west on the PA Turnpike to
face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the preseason Week 2 matchup. BetAnySports has opened Pittsburgh as a 3.5-point home favorite and the betting line for the total has been set at 41.

The Eagles started their preseason on a winning note with a 17-9 victory
against Tampa Bay as three-point home favorites. The total stayed UNDER
BetAnySports’ closing 37-point line in that game. Going back to last
preseason, they are now 4-1 both straight-up and against the spread in
games that do not count in the standings. Unfortunately, they are coming
off a SU 7-9 record last season in the games that did count.

Philadelphia moved up to No. 2 in this year’s draft to select
quarterback Carson Wentz, but he will be watching this game from the
sidelines with a rib injury. That means that Sam Bradford and Chase
Daniel should see more playing time than expected against the Steelers.
These two put the ball up a combined 11 times against the Buccaneers
with five completions for 18 yards. The Eagles featured Kenjon Barner in
the running game with seven carries for 35 yards, but look for starting
running back Ryan Mathews to see more playing time on Thursday night.

The Steelers lost their preseason opener to Detroit 30-17 as three-point
home favorites, but they did hold a 14-13 lead at the half. Pittsburgh
has been a tough team to bet on in the preseason lately with a 1-5
record both SU and ATS in its last six tries. The total has gone OVER in
four of those six games after going OVER BetAnySports’ closing 35-point
line against the Lions.

Ben Roethlisberger was out of the lineup against Detroit along with
running backs’ Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams. How much playing time
this trio gets on Thursday night remains to be seen? Landry Jones
completed 6-of-12 passes for 55 yards and a score in Week 1 and Daryl
Richardson added another 44 yards on the ground on 11 carries. Also out
of the lineup against the Lions was All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown
and in his absence Darrius Heyward Bey caught a 29-yard touchdown pass
as one of the highlights of the night.

Both team’s starters should once again be very limited in their playing
time this Thursday night, so I am giving the slight edge to Philadelphia
in this matchup with BetAnySports
3.5 points. New Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson may be just a bit more
concerned with the final tally on the scoreboard then Pittsburgh’s
veteran head coach Mike Tomlin.

The Eagles were a 26-24 loser in their most recent outing on the road
against the Falcons. They failed to cover the -3.5-point spread as
favorites, while the total score (50) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Dallas was a 27-26 winner in its last match at home against the
Giants. They failed to cover the -7-point spread as favorites, while the
total score of 53 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.

BetAnySports’ NFL Pick of the Week- Week 15 — Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Betting on Eagles NFL Football

Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Sunday, Dec. 14

Current BAS’ Line: Eagles -3 1/2 and the total is 54 1/2

Sunday Night Football in Week 15 of the NFL Regular season features a
huge showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles
with first-place in the NFC East on the line. BetAnySports has opened the Eagles as 3.5-point home favorites with the NFL betting odds on the total set at 55.5.

The Cowboys came up well short in the first meeting this season on
Thanksgiving Day in a 33-10 loss as three-point home favorites. The
total stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ 56.5-point betting line in that game.
After bouncing back last Thursday with a 41-28 victory against Chicago
as 3.5-point road favorites, Dallas is now 9-4 straight-up on the year
with a 7-6 record against the spread. The total has gone OVER in three
of its last four games.

The formula for evening the score this Sunday night is pretty simple;
hand the ball off or throw it to DeMarco Murray. After being held to 73
rushing yards in the loss to Philadelphia, he exploded for 179 yards on
the ground and 49 yards catching the ball against the Bears. Tony Romo
only had to put the ball up 26 times and he completed 21 passes for 205
yards and three touchdowns.

Philadelphia took a step backwards in the NFC playoff race with this
past Sunday’s 24-14 loss to Seattle as a 1.5-point underdog at home. The
9-4 Eagles both SU and ATS have to be thrilled they are done playing
the NFC West after going 1-3 both SU and ATS against that division this
year. The total stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing 48-point line against
the Seahawks after going OVER in four of their previous five outings.

If the Eagles are going to pull-off the season sweep, they are going to
need a big effort from their featured running back LeSean McCoy. He
piled-up 159 rushing yards on 25 carries in the first game against
Dallas, but he could only manage 50 yards on 17 attempts against a
stingy Seattle defense his last time out. Mark Sanchez continues to
start at quarterback for an injured Nick Foles and he continues to prove
that this team cannot win games with a heavy dose of him throwing the
ball.

BetAnySports
has once again set an inflated total for this game based on the way
both teams can put up points, but the recent trends in this divisional
showdown heavily favor a lower scoring game than expected. I am riding
these betting trends on Sunday night with a play on the UNDER 54.5.

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys will meet on the gridiron at Cowboys Stadium on Saturday in a battle of division rivals.

Oddsmakers currently have the Cowboys listed as 3-point favorites versus the Eagles, while the game's total has not yet been posted.

Philadelphia won its last outing, a 45-19 result against the Jets on December 18. The Eagles covered in that game as a 3-point favorite, while the 64 combined points took the game OVER the total.

Last time out for Dallas, they were a 31-15 winner as they battled the Buccaneers on the road. The Cowboys covered in the match as a 7-point favorite, while 46 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

Monday Night Football Betting Preview- Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Point spread: Philadelphia -9

Over/Under: 47.5

The well-rested Chicago Bears come off of their bye week to tangle with the high-powered Philadelphia Eagles this Monday night in front of a prime-time audience at Lincoln Financial Field. The kick-off for this NFC clash is slated for 8:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Chicago went into its bye week at 4-3 straight-up (3-4 against the spread) after a 24-18 victory over Tampa Bay in London as a 1.5-point favorite. The total stayed ?under? the 44-point line in this game and has now stayed ?under? in four of its seven games this year.

Look for a heavy dose of running back Matt Forte in this game as the Bears will try and exploit an Eagles? defense that has struggled to stop the run this year. This will also take the pressure of a Jay Cutler, who looked less than spectacular against the Buccaneers. He completed just 53.1 percent of his throws and was intercepted twice.

Philadelphia came off its bye last week against Dallas and finally played like the team that many people had penciled-in as one of the top three in the league. Its 34-7 demolition of the Cowboys as a three-point home favorite raised its record to 3-4 both SU and ATS. The total stayed ?under? the 49-point line, but it has gone ?over? in four of its previous six games.

The victory over Dallas proved that if Michael Vick takes care of the ball, and the rest of the offense eliminates the mistakes that plagued it in its four-game losing streak, there are few defenses in the league that can stop this team. The Eagles are now ranked first in the NFL in total yards per game and an impressive first in rushing offense with an average of 179.9 yards a game.

The Bears are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games as an underdog on the road. The total has stayed ?under? in 20 of their last 28 road games.

The Eagles are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite, but they are 4-0 ATS in their last four Monday night games. The total has stayed ?under? in five of their last six home games.

These two have played each other the last four seasons with Chicago holding a 3-1 edge both SU and ATS. This time around, stick with Michael Vick the Eagles to put on another prime-time show that results in another big win at home.

The Pick: Philadelphia 34 Chicago 20

Monday Night Football Betting Preview- Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles

NFL Betting Previews- Philadelphia Eagles vs. Atlanta Falcons

Point spread: Philadelphia -2.5

Over/Under: 50

It will a battle of the birds this Sunday night when Michael Vick returns to the Georgia Dome with his Philadelphia Eagles to take on his old team, the Atlanta Falcons in a NFC clash between two division winners from a year ago. The kick-off is slated for 8:20 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.

Philadelphia got off to a solid start last week with a 31-13 victory over St. Louis as a 4.5-point road favorite. The total ended as a ?push? against a closing line of 44 points. Philadelphia gave up a 47-yard rushing touchdown to Steven Jackson on the Rams first play from scrimmage, but then settled down to build a 10-point lead at the half. The Eagles put the game away for good in the fourth quarter, when LeSean McCoy ripped-off a 49-yard run for a score.

Vick finished the game with 187 yards passing and 98 yards rushing as the Eagles torched St. Louis for over 400 yards of total offense.

Atlanta did not fare as well in its opener with a 30-12 loss to Chicago as a three-point road favorite. The total went ?over? the 40.5-point line. The Falcons? normally potent offense was held to just two field goals as their only touchdown in the game was a 54-yard interception return when the game had already been decided. Matt Ryan finished the day with 319 yards passing and Michael Turner had 100 yards rushing, but Atlanta could not find its way into the end zone.

The Eagles are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games as a road favorite and the total has gone ?over? in six of their last seven games on the road. The Falcons are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a home underdog and the total has gone ?over? in nine of their last 13 games overall.

Head-to-head, Philadelphia is 9-2-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall and 4-1-1 ATS in the last six games in Atlanta. The total has stayed ?under? in seven of the last eight games overall and in the last five meetings here.

This will be Michael Vick?s first appearance in the Georgia Dome as a starter since his days in Atlanta, but do not expect the crowd to welcome him back with open arms. The thing to expect is another big night from this Eagles? offense to pin the Falcons into an early 0-2 hole.

The Pick: Philadelphia 34 Atlanta 21
