MLB Odds: Happ, Jays Host Hapless Rays - Handicappers Hideaway

There isn't much room for error, but the Toronto Blue Jays (64-49, +0.46
betting units) are on the right track. They're in good shape to earn at
least a Wild Card berth in the American League playoffs; this
Wednesday, the Jays can pick up another win at the expense of the
last-place Tampa Bay Rays (45-66, –27.97 units), beginning at 7:07 PM ET
on Sportsnet.

Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 100% bonus.

The Jays opened this three-game series with a bang Monday night, beating
Tampa Bay 7-5 as –155 home favourites. JA Happ (3.83 FIP) is scheduled
to start the finale for Toronto. Happ has been a pleasant surprise for
the Jays, picking up 10.79 units on a team record of 17-5. That includes
10 straight wins dating back to early June. Getting 6.36 runs per game
in support has helped. So has Happ's .271 BABIP.

Blake Snell (3.04 FIP) will twirl for Tampa in this lefty-on-lefty
matchup. Snell has been outstanding for the Rays in his rookie campaign,
but his teammates are letting him down; Tampa Bay is 3-7 in Snell's 10
starts for a loss of 4.43 units, scoring just 4.10 runs per game. This
will be his first-ever appearance against the Blue Jays.

Archer set to start for the Rays vs Dodgers - Handicappers Hideaway

Norris will have the edge in experience when he meets Chris Archer in
the opener of a two-game set Tuesday in Los Angeles. Norris' most recent
outing came in relief, two days after his last start. He pitched during
the 15th inning Friday night against the Cardinals and gave up a
walk-off home run to Matt Adams in the 16th with the Dodgers short on
arms. Norris has allowed 20 runs (19 earned) in 37 innings over seven
appearances (six starts) in his career against the Rays.

On the other side Archer will lack the familiarity in his first career
appearance against Los Angeles. The Rays are 2-10 in Archer's last 12
starts, and he owns a 4.74 ERA in 74 innings with opponents hitting .248
against him over that stretch. He is 2-1 in Interleague Play this
season with a 4.00 ERA over 18 innings and three starts.

This will be the beginning for the The Dodgers of a five-game homestand
with a two-game set against The Tampa Bay Rays starting Tuesday night.

They are rumored to have interest in Rays right-hander Chris Archer. The
fact that Los Angeles president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman
worked for Tampa in a similar capacity for nine seasons before being
lured here adds to the intrigue. A deal for Archer might shore up some
of the void left by injured ace Clayton Kershaw, who is on the 15 day
disabled list with mild disc herniation and whose return is unknown.

Wager506.com has The Dodgers at -1 1/2 and -1/2 on the first 5 innings, both lines at -105 in the morning. Join today for 150% Welcome Bonus plus 50% extra when you mention Handicappers Hideaway.

MLB Betting: David Price Trade Rumors Abound as Mid-Season Mark Approaches

MLB Baseball Betting on the Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays are sputtering out in the American League East
Division, resulting in no shortage of speculation that their staff ace
David Price is headed out the door. The MLB betting community will wait
anxiously on the hurler’s possible destination.

Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Though the franchise has done a respectable job of managing to
contend consistently, this year’s Rays are the worst in the division.
They are 100/1 to win the American League, and they are just 200/1 to
win the World Series outright.

Why not make the best of a bad situation by dealing a pitcher in his
prime for a series of prospects? Is that out of line with Tampa Bay’s
line of thinking?

There’s the possibility that the lefty ends up on a contender within
the AL East Division, but the Rays may be reluctant to entertain that
thought. Alternatively, he could wind up plying his trade for a National
League sportsbook favorite like the San Francisco Giants or St. Louis
Cardinals.

Regardless, with Tampa’s world upside down, it’s time to move Price. Brace for the sportsbook implications.

AL Wild Card One-Game Tiebreaker: Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers Preview

The Rays visit the Rangers in Game 163, a must-win scenario for both teams if they wish to advance to a second must-win situation. The Rays and the Rangers tied for the second American League Wild Card spot and will break the tie for the right to meet the Indians in Wednesday's Wild Card game. The Rangers have won seven straight games and the Rays have won eight of their last 10 contests.

David Price will start against rookie Martin Perez and the Rangers announced that outfielder Nelson Cruz will be activated for this game. Cruz's 50-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs ended yesterday and he has fared well against Price, going 6-for-12 with two home runs against him.

The Rangers earned the right to host this game because they won the regular season series 4-3. The teams split a four-game series in mid-September.

According to the oddsmakers at America's Bookie, the Rays are at -117, the Rangers are at +107 and the total is set at 7½. Here you can check the daily MLB Baseball Betting Lines at America's Bookie.

Pitching Matchup:

David Price (9-8, 3.39 ERA) vs. Martin Perez (10-5, 3.55 ERA)

David Price didn't face the Rangers this season but he has traditionally struggled against them, going 1-4 with a 5.98 ERA in eight career outings. After outstanding performances in July and August, Price was 1-2 with a 3.78 ERA in five September starts. The left-hander has pitched at least seven innings in four of his last six starts. Alex Rios is batting .435 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 23 career at-bats against Price.

Martin Perez won seven of his last nine decisions as one of the Rangers' most reliable starters over the second half of the season. Perez didn't face the Rays this season and in his lone career outing against them last season he threw five innings and gave up two runs and seven hits. The left-hander has allowed three or fewer runs in nine of his last 11 starts.

AL Wild Card One-Game Tiebreaker: Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers Preview

Friday, September 20, 2013

Baltimore Orioles (81-71) vs. Tampa Bay Rays (83-69) Preview

The Orioles open a crucial four-game series against the Rays, as both teams fight for a Wild Card spot. The Orioles and the Rays lost series finales last night. The Rays are tied with the Rangers atop the Wild Card standings and the Orioles are two games back with 10 games to play. The Indians sit between them, just a half-game behind the Rays and the Rangers.

The Rays have lost seven of their last 11 home games following last night's 8-2 loss to the Rangers; however, they are 7-2 in their last nine games against the Orioles. The Rays are 11-for-81 (.136) with runners in scoring position in their last 12 losses. The Orioles took the first two games in Boston before being shut down by John Lackey last night, managing just two hits in a 3-1 setback.

According to the oddsmakers at BetAnySports, the Orioles are at +164, the Rays are at -174 and the total is set at 7.

Pitching Matchup:

Jason Hammel (7-8, 5.12 ERA) vs. David Price (8-8, 3.42 ERA)

Jason Hammel is winless since May 27, going 0-6 with five no-decisions in 11 starts during that span, which also included over a month in the disabled list with a forearm injury. Hammel has just three quality starts in that stretch, including one at Tampa Bay on June 7 when he allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings during a tough 2-1 loss. The right-hander gave up three runs and three hits in five innings at Toronto last Friday.

David Price has lost three straight decisions, tied for the longest losing streak of his career, although it can be attributed to poor run support. The left-hander received a no-decision in a 6-4 loss at Minnesota on Sunday after giving up two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Price is 7-2 in 15 career starts with a 2.65 ERA against the Orioles and is 1-0 in three outings this season. Danny Valencia is 9-for-12 with three walks in 15 plate appearances against him.

MLB Futures Favor Rangers, but Rays No Easy Opponent

MLB Futures Favor Rangers, but Rays No Easy Opponent

The Tampa Bay Rays may be a virtual non-factor when it comes to the AL East playoff picture this fall, but that doesn?t mean they can't play spoilers for some of their American League rivals.

This Monday the Rays will host the AL West-leading Texas Rangers for a three-game set and the MLB betting community will be watching.

According to Bodog's online sportsbook, the Rangers - currently a handful of games up on the second-place Los Angeles Angels - have 11/1 odds of winning the World Series. The Rays, despite a similar record, sit at just 150/1 odds due to the Yankee/Red Sox logjam ahead of them.

Though Tampa Bay's fate is all but decided, the series will go a long way towards Texas? hopes of hanging on to the playoff berth. A Tampa sweep could send the Rangers into a downward spiral.

Since whichever team comes second in the AL East has the wild card berth essentially guaranteed, the AL West crown serves as the only hope for both the Rangers and Angels.

Can Texas hang on to the division lead and allow themselves the opportunity to claw their way back to the World Series as they did last year? The Angels, though down, aren?t out and still have 35/1 odds on the MLB futures board.

You can bet Mike Scioscia and company will be cheering for the Rays this week.

MLB Odds Favor D-Backs, Reputation Favors Giants

The surging Arizona Diamondbacks have an opportunity to put yet more space between themselves and the reigning World Series champion San Francisco Giants this weekend. The question is, can they actually follow through?

What was once looking like a tightly-fought NL West division race has blown right open thanks to the D-Backs' late-August success. Now, with a three-game set on the horizon, the Giants can either start clawing back at the lead, or continue their downward spiral.

As far as the MLB betting world is concerned, the Giants are a superbly-staffed club with winning experience. Arizona, in contrast, is still very much an unproven commodity. That may be why the D-Backs sit with just 18/1 odds of winning the World Series compared to San Francisco?s 25/1 despite the gap in the standings.

With the wild card berth essentially locked down by the NL East?s Atlanta Braves, it's all or nothing for the rivalry in the west. If Arizona can hold on to their playoff ticket, it will be their first trip to the postseason since 2007.

Led by Justin Upton and a contingent of well-rounded young hitters, not to mention revitalized ace Dan Haren, the Diamondbacks have seemingly come out of nowhere to emerge as a legitimate MLB betting option.

It may be hard to completely buy into the D-Backs? as contenders philosophy, but those who do stand the chance of collecting a significant payout.

The division rival Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox are set to renew hostilities on Wednesday when they meet at Fenway Park.

Lefthander David Price will take the mound for the Rays to start this game. Price is 10-10 this season with a 3.76 ERA.

The Red Sox will counter Price with John Lackey. Righthander Lackey has a 6.13 ERA to go along with a 11-8 record this season.

Oddsmakers currently have the Rays listed as 105-moneyline favorites versus the Red Sox, while the game's total is sitting at 9.

Tampa Bay was a 6-2 winner in its last match on the road against the Red Sox. They won as +134 underdogs, while the total score of 8 made winners of UNDER bettors.

Just Short of Wild Card, Rays Stand to Yield Significant Payout

If the Tampa Bay Rays hope to factor into the American League wild card conversation this September they'll have to gain ground on the incumbent New York Yankees, who currently hold the spot just behind the first-place Boston Red Sox.

They'll have an opportunity to do so this weekend, so bet on Major League Baseball with Bodog.

From Friday to Saturday the Bronx Bombers will host the Rays at Yankee Stadium and the hometown team will be looking to strengthen their grip on second, perhaps even make a move for first.

Tampa Bay, who badly need to come out on top in order to stay relevant down the playoff stretch, are looking for their third postseason berth in four years after going 10 years without one upon their 1998 expansion.

According to Bodog's online sportsbook, the Tampa Bay outlook is grim. The Rays have just 125/1 odds to win the World Series, no doubt due to the fact that both the Yankees and Red Sox have looked so strong in 2011.

The Yankees have 6/1 odds of winning the World Series. The Red Sox have 13/4.

If the Rays can make noise in August and September, potentially even threatening for the AL?s wild card berth, they could pay out significantly.

Might the odds shift dramatically after this series if the Rays can stick it to the second-place Yankees over the weekend?
