Pacers Host Pistons as Playoff Race Heats Up

Pacers Basketball

Pacers and Pistons in Middle of Tight Playoff Race

The fans at Bankers Life Fieldhouse will see the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers when they take their seats on Wednesday. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN at 8 pm EST.

The playoff race is starting to heat up in the Eastern Conference. The sixth and seventh seeds in the East, the Pacers and Pistons, are right in the middle of it.

Oddsmakers opened the Pacers as -3.5-point favorites versus the Pistons, while the game's total opened at 205.

In their last action, the Pacers were a 100-88 loser on the road against the Charlotte Hornets. They failed to cover the +4.5-point spread as underdogs, while the combined score (188) was profitable news for UNDER bettors. Indiana is just 3-12 on the second night of a back-to-back. When given at least one day of rest, the squad is 29-19.

Last time out for Detroit, they were a 109-95 winner as they battled the Chicago Bulls at home. The Pistons covered in the game as a -6-point favorite, while 204 combined points moved the game UNDER the total. The Pistons own the seventh best rebounding percentage league. This is in large part to Andre Drummond's 13.8 rebounds per game. Rebounding has been an issue for the Pacers and Detroit will try to exploit that weakness this time around.

ACC Tournament: Virginia Opens with Pitt

ACC Tournament

UVA and Pitt Love to Slow it Down

The Pittsburgh Panthers and the Virginia Cavaliers will meet in the 2017 ACC Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. They will meet at Barclays Center. The game will be televised by ESPN2 and is supposed to tip around 9 pm EST.

Only four days after meeting in both teams' regular-season finale on senior day at UVA,  No. 14 seed Pittsburgh will battle No. 6 seed Virginia in the second round of the ACC tournament. Virginia is playing some of its best basketball of the season during their current three-game winning streak. It followed a four-game losing streak, which was the Cavs longest in four years.

Oddsmakers have the Cavs as 10-point favorites in this ACC Tournament matchup. The total is at 117.

Virginia was a 67-42 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Pitt Panthers. They covered the -11-point spread as favorites. Virginia had almost zero success in the ACC tournament over the last decade or so. Recently the Cavaliers have thrived in the tournament. The Cavs have reached the title game in two of the last three seasons. This includes an ACC tournament title in 2014.

Pittsburgh was a 61-59 winner in their first round matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. They failed to cover the -2.5-point spread as favorites. The Panthers made just 6 of 23 3-point shots against the Yellow Jackets in the first round of the ACC Tournament. It continued a decline in their outside shooting that was in full effect against the Cavaliers in the regular season finale as well.

Notre Dame Looking for Double Bye in ACC at Louisville

University of Louisville Basketball

Top 4 Teams get Double Bye in ACC Tourney

The fans at KFC Yum! Center will the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Louisville Cardinals battle on Saturday.  The top four seeds in the league each get a double bye. With a win Louisville is assured of at least a double bye. A win assures the Fighting Irish of a double bye. So there is a lot at stake this afternoon.

There are all kinds of scenarios that have some combination of Notre Dame, Louisville, Florida State or Duke being in the No. 2-5 seed in the ACC Tournament. The easiest way to look at this is essentially Louisville and Notre Dame are playing Saturday to not have to play next Wednesday.

Whichever team doesn't get the double bye will have to win four games in four days to win the ACC title. The tournament winner gets the league's automatic NCAA bid.

Oddsmakers opened the Cardinals as -8-point favorites versus the Fighting Irish, while the game's total opened at 146.5.

Louisville was a 88-81 loser in their most recent outing on the road against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. They failed to cover the -4-point spread as favorites. Louisville will have to get sophomore leading scorer Mitchell more involved. He only had seven points during the Cardinals' 88-81 loss at Wake Forest Wednesday night.

In their last action, Notre Dame was a 82-66 winner at home against the Boston College Eagles. They covered the -15.5-point spread as favorites. The Irish have won their last six games. They also have a victory over Louisville earlier this season.

Rangers Visit Recharged Bruins

Bruins Host Habs

Bruins Playing Better After Coaching Change

The Boston Bruins have clawed their way back into playoff position in the Eastern Conference. But they face a roadblock this Thursday night when they host the New York Rangers, one of four very strong teams in the Metropolitan Division. NBCSN has the coverage starting at 7 PM ET.

Bet on hockey at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Boston’s fortunes have improved since they fired head coach Claude Julien three weeks ago. The Bruins won six of their first seven games with Bruce Cassidy taking over on an interim basis, putting them in third place in the Atlantic Division following Monday’s action. However, the Rangers are also on a hot streak, and they’d be in first place if they were in the Atlantic.

The NHL’s trade deadline is Wednesday at 3 PM ET, so there could be some major personnel changes on both sides of this matchup. Meanwhile, reports at press time say the Rangers have traded two draft picks to the Detroit Red Wings for defenseman Brendan Smith, a solid role player who blocks shots and handles the puck well. The projected starters for Thursday are the usual No. 1 netminders: Tuukka Rask (.912 save percentage) for Boston, and Henrik Lundqvist (.912 SV%) for New York.

SMU Hosts Tulsa With AAC Title on the Line

SMU Mustangs Athletics

SMU Has Won Nine out of their last Ten

The 14th-ranked SMU Mustangs can lock down at least a share of the AAC regular-season basketball title tonight. The game is 8 PM ET on CBSSports Network. They welcome the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to Moody Coliseum in Dallas. SMU is one game up on the Cincinnati Bearcats with two games left to go.

Bet on college basketball at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.

It’s been a remarkable run for the Mustangs in their first year under head coach Tim Jankovic. He took over in July after Larry Brown resigned. The team Jankovic inherited was already loaded with talent. They’ve put it all together on the court with sound two-way play and a low turnover rate, generating one of the best ATS records in college hoops.

The Golden Hurricanes have also been profitable this year. Expectations were low after losing eight senior players from the 2015-16 squad. Third-year head coach Frank Haith restocked his program with JUCO transfers and three-star prospects. Junior forward Junior Etou has done his part to keep Tulsa competitive. He is putting up 17.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per 40 minutes. The Mustangs won their earlier matchup 76-53 as 9-point road favorites, up from –7.5 at the open.

Gators Host Dangerous Arkansas Team Wednesday

Florida Gators Athletics

Gators Look for Bounce-Back of UK Loss

The dangerous Arkansas Razorbacks and the Florida Gators in a what should be a great SEC matchup Wednesday when they battle at Stephen O'Connell Center. Arkansas looks to have battled it's way off the NCAA Bubble, but could use a victory against a Top 15 team. Especially on the road. Arkansas hasn't defeated a top 15 team away from home since winning at No. 12 Alabama on Jan. 27, 2007.

The Razorbacks have rolled off five consecutive victories. Three of the wins came on the road. The hot streak seems to have elevated Arkansas into a most likely NCAA Tournament team, unless they have a meltdown.

Florida had a strong run of nine straight wins before running into first-place Kentucky.

Oddsmakers opened the Gators as -11.5-point favorites versus the Razorbacks, while the game's total opened at 152.

Last time out for Florida, they were a 76-66 loser as they battled the Kentucky Wildcats on the road. They failed to cover in the matchup as a +4.5-point underdog. The Gators are in second place in the SEC. They have defeated the Razorbacks six consecutive times.

Last time out for Arkansas, they were a 79-68 winner as they battled the Auburn Tigers on the road. They covered in the match as a PK. The Razorbacks feature four players scoring in double digits. Senior guard Dusty Hannahs is at 14.7 points, junior guard Daryl Macon is at 13.7 points, junior guard Jaylen Barford is averaging 12.2 points,  and senior post Moses Kingsley averages 11.8 points.  These four lead the way to Arkansas averaging 81.0 points per game. Kingsley stands out inside and averages a team-best 7.7 rebounds. His 78 blocked shots tie for ninth nationally.

Rockets and Clippers Battle in ESPN Late Game

Houston Rockets

Lou Williams on Fire for Rockets Since Trade

The Houston Rockets invade Los Angeles to play the Clippers Wednesday night at the STAPLES Center. The Rockets have won two of three games after the trade for Lou Williams before the trade deadline.

Williams returns to LA for his first game since being traded. The clash of Western Conference contenders Wednesday night at Staples Center looks to be a good one on paper. Williams scored 81 points in three games after being acquired by the Rockets from the Los Angeles Lakers for Corey Brewer and a first-round pick last week.

Oddsmakers opened the Rockets as PK versus the Clippers. The line now has the Clippers as 2-point favorites. The game's total opened at 232.

In their last action, Los Angeles was a 124-121 winner at home against the New Orleans Hornets. They failed to cover the -11-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (245) was profitable news for OVER bettors. Blake Griffin had a season-high 43 points with 10 rebounds in the win. The Clippers, who were fifth in the conference race, ended a two game losing streak. They are one-half game behind the Utah Jazz.

Houston lost its last outing, a 117-108 result against the Indiana Pacers on February 27. The Rockets failed to cover in that game as a -10-point favorite, while the 225 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

Cavaliers Head to Boston for Eastern Conference Showdown

Cleveland Cavaliers

Cavs Looking for Breathing Room

The Cleveland Cavaliers are on top of the Eastern Conference standings, but the Boston Celtics have closed the gap. They’re won 12 of their last 16 games and are now just four games back. They’ll have another chance to cut into that lead when they host Cleveland Wednesday night.

Oddsmakers have the Celtics and the Cavaliers as a PK. The total is at 223 after opening at 221.5.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a 50% bonus.

For the Cavs, this is the first of three back-to-back road games. They’ve hosted the Celtics twice already this season, winning both games, while shredding their defense. They’ve averaged 126 points per game in those two contests.

The Celtics head west for a five-game trip after Wednesday, so they’ll aim to start their road trip with a win over the team they’re chasing in the East. Isaiah Thomas continues to dominate, as he ranks second in the NBA in scoring, but the team’s offense has faded of late. They’ve averaged just 100.5 points per game over their last four.
