MLB Opening Day: Rays Host Yankees in 2017 Opener

MLB Opening Day

Archer and Tanaka Opening Day Starters

The New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays will meen on MLB Opening Day at Tropicana Field. The division rivals will kick off the 2017 MLB Season at 1 pm on ESPN. The Tradition of the Cincinnati Reds always opening MLB each season with it's first game is missed by many purists and are a reminder of the destruction that Bud Selig did to "America's Favorite Pastime."

The Yankees will give the ball to starter Masahiro Tanaka in this one. Right hander Tanaka is 0-0 this season with a 0.00 ERA. Tanaka went 14-4 with a 3.07 ERA last season. He dominated the Rays by going 4-0 with a 2.88 ERA. That was twice as many wins as against any other opponent. He's 6-0 in eight career starts against Tampa Bay.

It'll be Chris Archer toeing the rubber for the Rays in this contest. Right hander Archer is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA so far this season. Archer has pitched twice on Opening Day. He lost in each of the last two seasons. That familiarity will help him as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2016 season.

Oddsmakers opened the Yankees as -116-moneyline favorites versus the Rays, while the game's total opened at 6.5.

Tampa Bay was a 6-4 winner to end the 2016 MLB season against the Rangers. They won as +139 underdogs, while the total score of 10 made winners of PUSH bettors.

New York was a 5-2 loser on the road against the Orioles to end last season. Bettors on Baltimore at -142 on the moneyline collected their winnings from that game. The total score (7) sent UNDER bettors home happy as well.

University of Phoenix Stadium will host the nightcap of the 2017 Final Four matchup between the Oregon Ducks and the North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday night. The fans should expect and athletic, high scoring, and physical matchup between these two teams. UNC is NCAA Basketball royalty and Oregon is trying becoming a consistent power in the NCAA. The Ducks are playing in their first Final Four since winning the Inaugural Tournament in 1939.

The Tar Heels are all old-school. The Tar Heels are the only blue-blood in the Final Four. UNC has an old-school coach in Roy Williams. They have an old-school big man in Kennedy Meeks. He dominated Kentucky in the South Regional final. He grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked four shots.

Final Four: South Carolina and Gonzaga Meet in Early Game

NCAA Final Four in Phoenix

Zags Not Underdogs in This Final Four

The fans at University of Phoenix Stadium will a Final Four matchup between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Gonzaga Bulldogs Saturday afternoon. These two teams will kickoff the 2017 NCAA Mens Basketball Final Four. For both teams this will be their program's first trip to the Final Four.

The Zag' are usually considered the undergogs in the latter rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Not this Year. No one could have imagined South Carolina making it to Phoenix. Especially when they lost 5 of their last 7 games to end the season.

Oddsmakers opened the Bulldogs as -6.5-point favorites versus the Gamecocks, while the game's total opened at 138.

Gonzaga was a 83-59 winner in their Elite Eight matchup against the Xavier Musketeers. They covered the -8.5-point spread as favorites. A big Gonzaga frontline that features 7-foot, 300-pound Przemek Karnowski, blue-chip 7-foot freshman Zach Collins and 6-9 forward Johnathan Williams will be hard to deal with.

The player who really makes the Zags go is Washington transfer point guard Nigel Williams-Goss. H was selected to the 10-man Wooden Award All-America team.Williams-Goss had 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists as Gonzaga blew out Xavier 83-59 in the West Regional final. He showcased the offensive and defensive efficiency that have been season-long hallmarks.

South Carolina was a 77-70 winner in their Elite Eight outing against the Florida Gators. They covered the +3-point spread as underdogs. The combination of high-scoring guard Sindarius Thornwell and some hellacious defense has been more than good enough in the past two weeks. South Carolina has knocked off the No. 2 (Duke), No. 3 (Baylor) and No. 4 (Florida) seeds in the East to earn this berth.

Final Four Betting Trends

South Carolina:
Team record: 26-10 SU,16-18 ATS
