Falcons and Saints Battle With Playoff Lives on Line

Falcons and Saints NFL Football

Falcons and Saints Still in NFC South Title Hunt as Well

Sunday when the Falcons and the Saints meet in one of the most underrated rivalries in the NFL. They battle at Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kickoff is set for 1 pm. EST and FOX Sports will have the telecast. The NFL Playoffs start today for these two teams.

A victory by either team will not clinch the NFC South title.  A loss would be devastating to either team's prospects of winning the division. it would also end the possibility to host at least one playoff game. The Carolina Panthers have a lot to say about what goes on as well. They are right in the middle of this 3-way tango.

Oddsmakers opened the Saints as -5-point favorites versus the Falcons, while the game's total opened at 52. The line has held steady most of the week.

The Saints have missed the playoffs the last three years by going 7-9 in each of those seasons. They have not played a game of this significance since facing Seattle in the first round of the 2013 playoffs.

If the Saints win and Carolina loses at home to Tampa Bay, New Orleans would clinch the NFC South by virtue of its sweep of the Panthers this season.

Second Game in Three Weeks for Teams

The Thursday night game in Atlanta 16 days ago had a little bit of everything for the Saints. Ten players left the field with injuries at some point. Rookie running back Alvin Kamara sustained a concussion on the first series on a helmet-to-helmet tackle by linebacker Deion Jones.

The Saints' defense had pressure all night. They forced Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan into three turnovers. Without Kamara keeping the chains moving, the Saints offense was stuck in running in mud most of the time.

Saints coach Sean Payton was caught giving the choke sign late in the game to Atlanta running back Devonta Freeman. He was fined by the NFL earlier this week for entering the field in the final 70 seconds and complaining to the officials.

The Saints converted only 3 of 10 third downs in the last meeting. New Orleans normally potent running game was held to 50 yards on 15 attempts.

The Saints had six players named to the Pro Bowl this week. They were Brees, Mark Ingram, Kamara, receiver Michael Thomas defensive end Cam Jordan, and rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore. That is the most since they had seven make it in 2009, their Super Bowl season.

The Falcons, who won five of their last six games. They have rebounded from a 4-4 start. They had two players selected to the Pro Bowl. Wide receiver Julio Jones and center Alex Mack.

Jones did not practice Wednesday because of ankle and thumb injuries. He is expected to play. Running back Tevin Coleman returned to practice after missing Monday night's 24-21 victory over Tampa Bay. He had been in concussion protocol. He sustained it against the Saints on Dec. 7.

Here is the NFC Playoff Picture Via CBS Sports.

Vikings Looking for Home-Field Advantage Against Packers

Minnesota Vikings Football

Packers Hope to Throw Monkey Wrench in Vikings Plans

NFC North rivals meet again on Saturday when the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers meet at Lambeau Field. The game kicks off around 8:25 pm EST and NBC Sports and the NFL Network will have coverage.

Oddsmakers have the Vikings as 9-point favorites. The total is sitting at 41. The weather is going to be brutal cold. The predicted low is 1-degree.

The Vikings have clinched the division title. They are far from done though, as they have an eye on securing a first-round bye and maybe earning home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

The Packers are out of the playoff picture. Aaron Rodgers is back on injured reserve after throwing three interceptions in a killer loss at Carolina last week. It was his first game back after his right collarbone was broken during a loss at Minnesota in Week 6.

Hundley Back Under Center for Pack Against Vikings

Last time out for Green Bay, they were a 31-24 loser as they battled the Carolina Panthers on the road. The Packers failed to cover in the match as a +2.5-point underdog, while 55 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.

Brett Hundley will face an enormous challenge against Minnesota's powerful defense. The Vikings rank second in the NFL in total defense and scoring defense. Defensive end Everson Griffen, has 13 sacks. Anthony Barr and cornerback Xavier Rhodes were chosen to the Pro Bowl team on Tuesday.

Green Bay's defense relies on big plays that happen way too infrequently. The Packers kept their season alive by scoring a defensive touchdown in the OT win against Tampa Bay. They also forced an interception in overtime to win at Cleveland.

At Carolina, however, the Packers failed to force any turnovers. The squad gave up four touchdown passes to Cam Newton and a season-worst 29 first downs.

Green Bay is No. 30 in opponent passer rating at 100.5. They are No. 31 in opponent completion percentage, giving up 68.4. Vikings quarterback Case Keenum is No. 8 in rating at 98.9 and No. 2 in completion percentage with a 67.9%.

Minnesota was a 34-7 winner in its last match at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. They covered the -12.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 41 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

CBS Sports Classic Has UCLA and Kentucky in Late Game

CBS Sports Classic

CBS Sports Classic Late Game -- Two Teams in Two Different Directions

The UCLA Bruins and the 7th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats will meet in the late game in the CBS Sports Classic on Saturday. The game is being played at Smoothie King Center and CBS Sports has the telecast at 4:30 pm EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Wildcats as -6.5-point favorites versus the Bruins, while the game's total opened at 157. The line has held steady.

The Wildcats (9-1) and Bruins face for the third time in a little over 12 months. Two vastly different teams take the floor than those that met last December in Lexington or in March at the NCAA Tournament.

Gone are UCLA's 2016-17 stars Lonzo Ball, T.J. Leaf and Isaac Hamilton. Add that with the suspension of three freshmen before the season the Bruins are playing with a thin roster. Jalen Hill, Cody Riley and the now-gone from the program LiAngelo Ball were caught stealing in China and were suspended for the season.

Year-to-year roster turnover is standard fare for Kentucky under coach John Calipari. Gone from last season's team are key contributors Malik Monk, Isaiah Briscoe, Bam Adebayo and De'Aaron Fox. They have been replaced by four freshmen.

All of them are scoring in double figures. Forward Kevin Knox is at 15.8 points, guard Hamidou Diallo is at15.2, guard Quade Green is at11 and guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is chipping in 10 ppg.

Green is coming off a 17-point performance in Kentucky's 93-86 win over Virginia Tech a week ago. He debuted a pair of reflective glasses after being poked in the eye earlier in the week.

UCLA struggled with full-court pressure the last two times out. Cincinnati's press forced 15 first-half turnovers last week in their matchup. This year's Kentucky team is pressing more than any Calipari team in a decade.
