Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards Preview

Cavaliers NBA Basketball

Cavaliers Look to Start 2nd Half off Strong

Two of the top four seeds in the East battle Thursday night on TNT to kick-off the unofficial second-half of the NBA season. The Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards both went into the All-Star break on high notes. Both teams winning 7 of their last 10 games.

The Wizards also won their last two games. The Cavs come in on a four-game win streak. Cleveland sits in third place in the East, with Washington just 1.5 games behind in the fourth spot. At 34-22 on the season the Cavs are 18-37-1 ATS. The Wizards sit at 33-24 and are 27-30 ATS.

Online sports betting lines for this contest show the Cavaliers as 5.5-point favorites. The total is at 221.

Wizards Without Wall Against Cavaliers

The Wizards will be without John Wall in this contest. He is expected to be out until mid-March. Washington has played surprisingly well without Wall lately. The team is currently searching for another point guard to add to the roster while he’s out.

In their last game, Washington rallied all the way from a 27-point deficit to take down the Knicks. Bradley Beal put up 37 points in that contest. Beal will continue to the lead way without Wall. Otto Porter Jr and Markieff Morris will need to supplement Beal’s scoring in this one for the Wizards to match Cleveland’s firepower.

Washington looks to be playing more free and easy without Wall and some of the Wizards players have even not so subtly hinted at this fact. Everyone is getting the chance to contribute which makes them dangerous.

Cavaliers Look to Battle On Without Love

Cleveland is also a team that knows a thing or two about playing without a star player. The Cavs have also fared well in the absence of forward Kevin Love. That is in large part to their activity at the trade deadline. They are now basically a whole new team altogether.

The emergence of new players Larry Nance, Jordan Clarkson, George Hill and Rodney Hood has made Cleveland a much more athletic and youthful bunch. The additions have also seemed to re-energize LeBron James and JR Smith.

Even without Love, Cleveland’s offense is now as dangerous as ever. After being repeatedly embarrassed against the top teams in the league, Cleveland defeated Boston and Oklahoma City to go 2-0 with their new roster.

Expect Cleveland to keep the momentum going in this one as the Wizards will have a tough time keeping up the scoring pace without Wall. For more on this game and all other action across the NBA, visit HRWager.

Xavier Hosts Villanova in Weekend Clash

Xavier Basketball

Big East Titans Clash

The 3rd-ranked Villanova Wildcats and the 4th-ranked Xavier Musketeers square off on Saturday at Cintas Center. Tip-off is set for 4:30 pm EST and FOX will broadcast the matchup nationally.

It's been a historic season for Xavier. The Musketeers try to nail down their first Big East Conference title. That could lead to a possible No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  Villanova could be standing firmly in the way.

Oddsmakers opened the Wildcats as -1-point favorites versus the Musketeers, while the game's total opened at 165.5. The line has held steady, but the total is down to 164.

Xavier holds a 1 1/2-game lead over the defending national champions. Nova' has dominated the current version of the Big East since it formed 2013.

The Musketeers have had little luck against head coach Jay Wright's Wildcats. They have lost nine of 10 meetings, including three during the 2014-15 season.

Villanova easily dispatched Xavier in the first meeting this season. It was an 89-65 butt-kicking at the Wells Fargo Center back on Jan. 10. Wildcats guard Phil Booth scored a game-high 21 points. He will not play Saturday because of a bone fracture.

Xavier is the Real Deal

Xavier was a 102-90 winner in its last match at home against the Seton Hall Pirates. They covered the -6.5-point spread as favorites.

Xavier has already put the NCAA selection committee on notice. They have an impressive body of work. A victory Saturday over one of the nation's best teams would be another milestone in an already historic season.

Villanova Struggling as it Travels to Xavier

Villanova was a 76-71 loser in its last match on the road against the Providence Friars. They failed to cover the -9.5-point spread as favorites.

Villanova has dropped two of its last three games. That includes the stunning loss at Providence. Nova' had a season-high 19 turnovers, with 13 of them coming in the second half.

Bouncing back from a loss has been a hallmark for the Wildcats, who haven't lost consecutive games since the 2012-13 season.

A victory Saturday is crucial for both teams. Xavier would have a 2 1/2-game lead with three to play. They would have a favorable schedule with games at Georgetown, Providence, and at DePaul.

If the Wildcats were to knock off the Musketeers things could get dicey.  If they run the table against DePaul, Creighton, Seton Hall and Georgetown, they could finish tied with Xavier and earn the title based on a season sweep.

Groves Vs. Eubanks Jr. Boxing

The World Boxing Super Series Continues

The World Boxing Super Series continues this Saturday. In what should be a very competitive super-middleweight semifinal in Manchester, England. WBA Super champion George Groves takes on IBO champ Chris Eubank Jr.

Eubank opened as a –190 favorite, with Groves available at +155. The line now shows Eubanks at -175 and Groves at +155.

Bet on boxing at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Eubank (26-1, 20 KOs) is the world’s No. 4-ranked super-middleweight according to The Ring, while Groves checks in at No. 2. This will be Eubank’s first crack at a major title, but he’s a rising star in the squared circle; Groves (27-3, 20 KOs) has been in five different title fights, and he’ll be defending the WBA strap for the second time after beating Fedor Chudinov (+300) for the vacant title last May.

Besides the moneyline, there are 13 other ways you can bet on Saturday’s fight – including the popular Method of Victory prop, where Eubank is +165 to win by KO/TKO/DQ. Groves is +300 to do the same. This bout is pegged at –145 not to go the distance; the official total is 9.5 rounds (Over –140), but you can also bet on totals anywhere from 2.5 rounds to 10.5 rounds. The most likely stoppage in Round Betting is Eubank winning in Round 6 or 7 at +1600 apiece.

Well-Balanced Clippers Visit Celtics

Boston Celtics

Celtics Face New Look Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers have traded Blake Griffin. That doesn’t mean they’re giving up the ghost. The Clippers are 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS since sending Griffin to Detroit. Wednesday night they’ll play the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics have lost three of their last four games straight up and against the spread. Tip-off is at 8 PM ET on ESPN. Oddsmakers have Celtics as 4.5-point favorites and the total is at 212.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Los Angeles had a history of playing well whenever Griffin was out of the lineup. That happened quite a lot during his tenure. They now have a better-balanced and deeper lineup at the helm. Tobias Harris is at small forward and Danilo Gallinari replacing Griffin at the 4-spot. They are alongside defensive stalwart DeAndre Jordan.

Starting point guard Milos Teodosic has missed back-to-back games dealing with the sore right foot. It is a problem that has troubled him all season.

The Celtics (40-18 SU, 34-22-2 ATS) didn’t make any trades at last week’s deadline, but they did sign centre Greg Monroe for the remainder of 2017-18. Monroe played very well in 20 games for the Phoenix Suns before getting his contract bought out. Meanwhile, SG Marcus Smart (hand) is being shut down until after the All-Star break, giving more minutes to improving third-year guard Terry Rozier.

NBA Tuesday Free Pick- Houston Rockets at Minnesota Timberwolves

Minnesota Timberwolves

Rockets Face Timberwolves only 1/2 Game out of 1st

Two of the top four teams in the Western Conference clash this Tuesday night at the Target Center with the Houston Rockets going on the road to face the Minnesota Timberwolves. VietBet opened the Rockets as three-point favorites with the total set at 222.5. The line has help steady.

The Rockets have cut Golden State’s lead in the West to just half a game. Their current straight-up eight-game winning streak has proven pivotal. This includes a perfect 4-0 run (3-1 ATS) in a recent four-game road trip.

Houston is 4-2 ATS in its last six contests and the total has gone OVER the VietBets closing line in four of their last seven games. It is 20-7 SU on the road this season with a 16-11 record ATS.

James Harden remains the league’s leading scorer with 31.3 points per game. He put up 27 points in Sunday’s 104-97 win at home against Dallas. Chris Paul added 25 points to the winning cause. The Rockets have a roster that is seven-deep in double-digit scorers.

The Rockets are second in the NBA in scoring with an average. They pour in 114.1 PPG, but they fall to 14th when it comes to points allowed (105.6).

Timberwolves Hold onto 4th Place in West

The Timberwolves have gone a rocky 4-6 both SU and ATS in their last 10 games. At 35-24 SU, they are still holding on to fourth place in the standings. Minnesota failed to cover in Sunday’s 111-106 victory at home against Sacramento. They were listed as a heavy 13.5-point favorite with VietBet.

This victory extended the Timberwolves SU winning streak at home to 13 games, but they are just 1-4 ATS in their last five home games.

Jimmy Butler is averaging 22.5 PPG for the T-Wolves. He is followed closely by Karl-Anthony Towns at 20.1 points and Andrew Wiggins at 17.9 points per game. Minnesota is the sixth-highest scoring team in the NBA with 109.6 PPG average.

Towns led the way in Sunday’s win with 29 points.  Jeff Teague added 12 points and 10 assists in the winning effort. The Timberwolves fall to 17th in the league at the other end of the court. They are giving up 106.4 points per game.

These are not only two of the top teams in the West, they also matchup very closely across the board. Minnesota is on quite a roll at home lately. I am still going with Houston both SU and ATS as the overall hotter team.
