Braves Host Undefeated Nationals

Atlanta Braves

Braves Look to Cool National Hot Offense

The division rival Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves renew hostilities on Tuesday when they meet at SunTrust Park. The second game of a three game series will start at 7:35 pm EST. You can catch the game on regional television or MLB At Bat.

The Nationals will pin their hopes on the pitching of right hander A.J. Cole in this game. Cole has a 0-0 record and a 0.00 ERA this season.

It'll be Julio Teheran toeing the rubber for the Braves in this contest. Right hander Teheran is 0-0 with a 6.35 ERA so far this season.

Oddsmakers opened the Nationals as -118-moneyline favorites versus the Braves, while the game's total opened at 9.

Braves Look to Give Teheran Better Results this Outing

Atlanta lost the first game of the series 8-1. Bettors who backed the Nationals at -120 on the moneyline won on the day, and the total score (9) sent PUSH bettors to the payout window.

The 27-year-old surrendered four runs on four hits with three walks and one homer allowed in 5 2/3 innings. He got a no-decision as the Braves rallied late. Teheran left with the game tied at 2 a piece. The Bullpen came in and gave up two inherited runners. Teheran pitched better than the stat sheet says he did.

Teheran did some of his best work last season against the Nationals. He went 3-1 with a 3.24 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in four starts. Teheran finished the first season at Atlanta's new ballpark 3-10 with a 5.86 ERA. He went 8-3 with a 3.14 ERA on the road.

The nine straight home losses Teheran had a season ago was an Atlanta record. Teheran finished with the highest ERA (4.49) of his first five full seasons in the bigs.

Teheran had a good spring training. He fine-tuned some things over the winter. It showed with him going 4-0 with a 1.40 ERA in six Grapefruit League games.

Teheran is 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 18 career starts against the Nationals. He faces a Washington team that is 4-0 for the first time in team history.

Freddie Freeman tied a franchise record (held by Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews in 1955) with eight walks in the first four games of a season.

National are on Fire

Cole won the fifth spot in the Nationals rotation this spring. He had a relief appearance against the Braves last season after making his major league debut at Atlanta in a 2015 start.

Neither of his two outings went well.  Cole's 15.75 ERA against the Braves shows that. Cole gave up nine runs (five earned) while lasting just two innings in his debut. That game did end in a 13-12 comeback victory for the Nationals.

Cole was 3-5 with a 3.81 ERA last season. That covered eight starts and three relief appearances for the Nationals. He is 4-7 with a 4.52 ERA in 17 career starts and five games out of the bullpen.

The Braves scored 27 runs in taking two of three games from the Philadelphia Phillies. They were held to four hits over seven innings by Tanner Roark in the series opener. The Nationals beat the Braves for the 13th time in the last 19 meetings in Atlanta.

Bryce Harper hit a three-run homer in an 8-1 win on Monday in the series opener.

Nationals OF Adam Eaton is the reigning National League player of the week. He hit .615 with two homers, five RBIs and seven runs scored last week. He did not play Monday.

The Raptors (55-21) still have a two-game lead in the Eastern Conference after suffering a 110-99 loss in Boston Saturday night. DeMar DeRozan had 32 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Raptors. They were outscored 28-15 by the Celtics in the final quarter.

It was the first time in 17 games that the Raptors failed to make at least 10 three-pointers in a game.

The Cavaliers earned a 98-87 win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. LeBron James notched his 17th triple-double of the season. The Cavs have now won three straight games. They hold a slight half-game lead over the Philadelphia 76ers for the third spot in the conference.

The Cavaliers are 8-2 SU and 7-2-1 ATS in their 10 meetings with the Raptors. The Raptors have split both meetings with Cleveland this season. Seven of the meetings have gone over the posted total.

NBA Tuesday Free Pick- Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat

Miami Heat NBA Sunday

Miami Heat Face the Skidding Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks and the Miami Heat kick off a Southeast Division home-and-home series on Tuesday night. The game has a slated 7:30 p.m. tip at American Airlines Arena. VietBet has opened the Heat as 10.5-point home favorites with the total set at 206.5. The line is now the Heat -12.5 and the total is at 207.

The Hawks come into this Tuesday’s contest with just their second straight-up win in their last 13 games. They barely got by past division rival Orlando 94-88 on Sunday. They were a slight 1.5-point home favorites with VietBet.

They are last the Eastern Conference standings at 22-55 with. The Hawks have only six SU road victories in 38 of those games. Atlanta has gone 2-5-1 against the spread in its last eight road games.

Atlanta got a strong effort from its bench on Sunday. They were led by Tyler Dorsey’s team-high 19 points. Dennis Schroder has been the team’s leading scorer this season with 19.4 points per game. He is officially done for the year with an ankle injury. That cannot be good news for a team that is 23rd in the NBA in scoring with an average of 103.4 PPG.

Miami Heat Battling for Playoff Spot

Miami had a chance to clinch a playoff spot on Saturday night against Brooklyn. They came up one point short in overtime with a 110-109 loss as an eight-point favorite. This snapped a SU eight-game winning streak on its home court.

Miami was 7-1 ATS on the VietBet closing line over that same span. The total went OVER 213.5 points against the Nets and it has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in seven of the Heat’s last 11 games.

Goran Dragic has been Miami’s leading scorer this season with 17.4 points per game. That is good on a team that is ranked 24th in the NBA in points scored (103.3). He ended Saturday’s game with a team-high 18 points. Dragic went 7-for-17 from the field.

After that loss, center Hassen Whiteside went on a rant about playing time. This was after remaining on the bench for the forth quarter and overtime. He ended the night with 14 points and six rebounds.

The Heat could be considered the best of the rest in East. They would have a very short shelf life in postseason play. While current form dictates an early exit in the opening round. I would still pencil in Miami for a pair of victories in this home-and-home series. That is both SU and ATS starting Tuesday night at home against the worst team in the conference.

Astros Host the Orioles on Monday Night

Houston Astros Baseball

Astros Look to Continue Strong Start to Season

The fans at Minute Maid Park will see the Baltimore Orioles and the Houston Astros when they take their seats on Monday evening.  First pitch is set for 7:10 pm EST. ESPN will have the coverage.

The Orioles will give the ball to starter Chris Tillman in this one. Right hander Tillman is 0-0 this season with a 0.00 ERA.

It'll be Charlie Morton toeing the rubber for the Astros in this contest. Right hander Morton is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA so far this season.

Oddsmakers opened the Astros as -203-moneyline favorites versus the Orioles, while the game's total opened at 9. The line is not Houston -204 and the total is 9.5 under 115.

Astros Have Stacked Rotation

In their last action, Houston was a 8-2 winner on the road against the Texas Rangers. Bettors on Houston at -156 on the moneyline collected their winnings from that game. The total score (10) sent OVER bettors home happy as well.

The offseason acquisition of Gerrit Cole was made to strengthen an already solid Astros rotation. The goal was when they are fully healthy the team had the option of using Brad Peacock in a versatile role. They feel this is the best way to defend their 2017 MLB World Series Championship.

Cole made his Astros debut and validated the decision to go after him, at least so far. He seven solid innings in the series clincher. Cole gave up one run on two hits and three walks. Throw in 11 strikeouts, while growing stronger as his outing went.

Cole capped off a collective performance by the Houston rotation that the rest of the American League should take as a warning shot.

Cole followed Justin Verlander, Dallas Keuchel, and Lance McCullers over the weekend. That fourseme combined to rack up 24 1/3 innings while allowing just six earned runs on 17 hits and seven walks. They recorded 30 strikeouts with a 2.22 ERA.

Charlie Morton is making his season debut. Morton delivered a pair of memorable Game 7 performances during the Astros run to the title. He allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks with nine strikeouts over nine innings.

Those game were against the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers in the finale of the ALCS and World Series, respectively.

Morton is 0-2 with a 9.82 ERA over two career starts against the Orioles. He did not face Baltimore last season, his first with the Astros.

Tillman Making Season Debut Against Astros

In their last action, Baltimore was a 7-0 loser on the road against the Minnesota Twins. Bettors on Minnesota at 106 on the moneyline collected their winnings from that game. The total score (7) sent UNDER bettors home happy as well.

The Orioles mustered just three hits as the 23-year-old Jose Berrios pitched his first career shutout. Berrios needed only 57 pitches in six innings and finished with six strikeouts.

Chris Tillman is seeking to distance himself from a nightmarish 2017 campaign. He finished 1-7 with a career-worst 7.84 ERA.

Tillman is 2-3 with a 4.05 ERA over seven career starts against the Astros. He dropped an 8-4 decision last July 22 at Camden Yards. Tillman allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

Orioles 1B Chris Davis, who is hitting leadoff this season, went 0-for-12 in the first three games.

NCAA Championship Game: Michigan and Villanova Go for Title

NCAA Championship Game

Top Offense Vs. Top Defense in NCAA Championship Game

The Michigan Wolverines and the Villanova Wildcats will meet on tonight at Alamodome. The 2018 NCAA Championship in Men's Basketball is on the line. Tip-Off is set for 9:20 pm EST. TBS will have the coverage.  TNT will have coverage that is focused on Michigan and TRU TV will have the coverage focused on Villanova.

Oddsmakers opened the Wildcats as -6.5-point favorites versus the Wolverines, while the game's total opened at 146. The line is now Villanova -7 and the total is down to 144.5.

No. 1-seeded Villanova will attempt to win its second national championship in three years. The Wildcats are the top seed in the East and they have put on a shooting clinic so far. While dispatching Kansas 95-79 in the national semifinal on Saturday night they were on fire. They hit 18 shots from 3-point land to set a Final Four record. The previous mark was 13.

Michigan has already set a single-season record for victories so far. They will play in their seventh national championship game in program history. The Wolverines roared back from a 10-point deficit in the second half to beat NCAA, and media darling Loyola-Chicago 69-57.

Michigan will play Villanova for the fifth time ever. This is the second time in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Michigan 59-55 in the second round of the '85 NCAA Tournament.

Villanova Has Many Weapons in NCAA Championship Game

Villanova was led by junior Eric Paschall against Kansas. He shot an incredible 10 of 11 from the field and finished with 24 points. Only UCLA's Bill Walton had a better shooting night in a Final Four matchup. Walton was 21 of 22 in 1973.

The Wildcats also received 18 points from Jalen Brunson as well as 15 points and 13 rebounds from Omari Spellman. Villanova has been a balanced team the entire tournament.

Villanova has won games many kinds of ways through the NCAA Tournament. When 3-pointers weren't dropping in the Elite Eight against Texas Tech the Wildcats found other ways to win. They hit 29 of 35 free throws while going an atrocious 4 of 24 from behind the arc.

Villanova won the national championship in 1985 and 2016. A third title only one game away, potentially. Legendary coach Rollie Massimino guided the '85 team. He was in attendance in '16, but passed away about six months ago.

Michigan is Playing Best Basketball for NCAA Championship Game

Michigan will play in its first championship game since 2013. A victory over Villanova would close its season with 15 consecutive wins.

Moritz Wagner was outstanding against Loyola-Chicago with 24 points and 15 rebounds. The kid shot 10 of 16 from the floor. Wagner is a 6-foot-11 junior and can play all over the floor. He was only the third player to score 20-plus points with 15-plus rebounds in a national semifinal game. He joined Larry Bird in 1979 and Hakeem Olajuwon in 1983.

Michigan's unlikely season will continue. After going 19-7 through the first 26 games, they have put it in high gear as they try to win its second career national championship.

Sunday Night Baseball: Dodgers Host the Giants

Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers Look to Salvage Split

The Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Francisco Giants in the season opener of Sunday Night Baseball. First pitch is scheduled for 8:37 pm EST. ESPN will have the coverage at the conclusion of the NCAA Women's National Championship Game.

Oddsmakers have the Dodgers as a -180-moneyline favorite. The total is at 7.5 Under -115.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Chris Stratton (2017: 4-4, 3.68 ERA) vs. Dodgers LH Rich Hill (2017: 12-8, 3.32)

Dodgers have to get Offense Going

After being held scoreless in their first two games, the Los Angeles Dodgers put five runs on the board last night. They will look to earn a split of their four-game series against the visiting San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Kenta Maeda struck out 10 over five innings in Saturday's 5-0 victory as the Dodgers recorded their first win following back-to-back 1-0 losses.

The Dodgers' pitching staff has a 0.67 ERA through three games. They sure could use some offensive support from players such as Yasiel Puig, Cody Bellinger and Logan Forsythe. The sluggers are a combined 0-for-28 to open the season.

Closer Kenley Jansen wasn't needed Saturday, but his velocity was a hot topic after his cutter was clocked a tad slower than usual on Friday. He allowed Joe Panik's solo blast in the ninth inning.

Hill had a rough spring. He had a 7.30 ERA across 12 1/3 innings in four spring training games. That includes a rough five-inning stint against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. The 38-year-old has battled blister problems over the past two years. He did post a 3.31 ERA in his final 23 starts last season.

Hill is 5-2 with a 2.43 ERA in 11 career starts versus the Giants. This is including 2-0 with a 1.62 ERA in three turns last season.

Giants are a Question Mark for 2018

There are few few concerns in the Giants' bullpen. Hunter Strickland has taken over for Mark Melancon after his right elbow problems. He has led a rejuvenated group that hasn't allowed a run over nine innings in the first three games.

The bullpen has been surprisingly sharp, but the Giants are 1-for-21 with runners in scoring position. Newcomer Evan Longoria is hitless in his first 11 at-bats.

Stratton earned a spot in the rotation after posting a 3.29 ERA over 27 1/3 at the end of last season. He drawing raves for his improved curveball. The 27-year-old native of Mississippi owns a 1-1 record and 6.75 ERA in three career games (two starts) against the Dodgers.

Spurs Host Rockets on ABC

Spurs Basketball

Spurs In Must Win Situation in Crowded West

Plenty is on the line when the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets square off Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. This Texas rivalry tips off at 3:30 pm EST. ABC will televise the game nationally.

Oddsmakers have the Rockets as 1.5-point favorites. The total is 207.5.

The Spurs are back up to fourth in the Western Conference. LaMarcus Aldridge has been playing through some pain to lead the team, but the race is far from over. The Rockets are much more secure in their position at No. 1 in the West. They are still going strong with wins in 11 straight.

San Antonio is just a half-game ahead of Minnesota and Oklahoma City. They are tied for fifth place. The Spurs are one game ahead of Utah and New Orleans, who are tied for seventh. The Spurs are three games ahead of the ninth-place Clippers with only six to play. San Antonio hasn't missed the playoffs since 1997.

The Rockets don't need any more wins after clinching the No. 1 spot. They refuse to lose and recovered from a 21-point, second-half deficit, to stun the Phoenix Suns in a 104-103 win on Friday. Houston is starting to rest players and didn't have Chris Paul or Eric Gordon available on Friday. They leaned on its depth. Gerald Green buried the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Rockets have clinched the NBA's best record and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

Rockets Keep on Rolling as it Meets Spurs

Houston has taken the first three games of the season series by an average of 14 points. There would definitely be a sense of accomplishment in sweeping its longtime rival.

James Harden had 28 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in helping piece together the Rockets' second-largest comeback of the season.

It was Houston's 32nd win in its past 34 games. The Rockets are the first team since the 2010-11 Spurs to have three double-digit winning streaks in the same season. They have streaks of 17 and 14 consecutive games before the latest run.

Spurs Can't afford a Slip-up Down the Stretch

Four of San Antonio's last six games are against teams with winning records, so every win is a monster

Aldridge suffered a knee injury in Tuesday's 116-106 loss at Washington. He was questionable heading into Thursday but ended up playing 34 minutes and collecting 25 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Manu Ginobili is trying to do his part as well and scored 10 points in 15 minutes off the bench against the Thunder.

Spurs SF Kyle Anderson is 19-of-27 from the floor over the last five games.

Sunday's game is infinitely more important for the Spurs. San Antonio has little room for error. After the game against Houston today, just two home games remain.

The Spurs are 30-8 at home - the third-best mark in the league - but just 14-24 on the road.
