What Can We Expect from Johnny Manziel in Second Start?

Johnny Manziel Alouettes Football

Johnny Manziel and the Alouettes Travel to face the REDBLACKS

Johnny Manziel has reached week two of the tenure as starting quarterback of the Montreal Alouettes. The fans at TD Place Stadium will see the last place Alouettes and the first place Ottawa RedBlacks. This Saturday night matchup could be intriguing.

Kickoff is at 8:00 p.m. ET and can be seen on TSN, RDS and ESPN+.

This will be the second of three meeting between the East Division rivals. The REDBLACKS won on July 6th 28-18. The game was not as close as the score as Ottawa dominated the entire way.

Ottawa has won the last five matchups against Montreal. It includes a three-game sweep last year. Ottawa is 9-4 vs Montreal since 2014.

Montreal is 1-17 in its last 18 games, the poorest stretch of games in the history of the franchise.

REDBLACKS Have Been Consistent All Season

Last time out for Ottawa, they were a 42-41 loser as they battled the Toronto Argonauts on the road. The REDBLACKS failed to cover  as a -6.5-point favorite. The 83 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.

The East-leading REDBLACKS are also out for redemption. They allowed a Week 8 win to slip through their fingertips.

Argonauts quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson threw the game-winning touchdown with a second left on the clock. It lifted the Boatmen to a 42-41 victory at BMO Field.

The REDBLACKS entered the final 15 minutes with a sizeable 18-point lead. Bethel-Thompson stayed composed in his first CFL start. He found a way to put 22 points on the board in the fourth quarter.

Trevor Harris threw for 381 yards with two touchdowns for the REDBLACKS. He also had one interception.

Receiver Diontae Spencer had a game-high 145 yards on eight catches and a major (TD).

Defensive lineman A.C. Leonard racked up seven tackles and one sack.

Alouettes Hope Johnny Manziel Can Keep Improving in Lost Season

In their last action, Montreal was a 50-11 loser at home against the Tiger-Cats. They failed to cover the +7-point spread as underdogs. The combined score (61) was profitable news for OVER bettors.

Johnny Manziel completed 11 of 20 attempts for 104 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions. They fell behind 28-0 in the first quarter during the shellacking.

Montreal’s defense gave up 521 yards. The Ticats found the end zone seven times.

From a blocked punt that was run back for a touchdown to six total turnovers. The night was a total disaster.

Montreal is giving up a CFL leading 3406 points per game. That has to change if they want to win tonight.

The Als defense is the only CFL team giving up over 300 passing yards per game on average.

BC Lions Host Edmonton on CFL Thursday Night Football

BC Lions

BC Lions Need a Win to Try to Keep Pace in West

The fans at BC Place see the Edmonton Eskimos and the British Columbia Lions in CFL Week 9 action on Thursday. Kickoff is at 10 p.m. ET and can be seen on TSN and ESPN2.

Oddsmakers Eskimos as 3.5-point favorites. They total is sitting at 54.

The Eskimos are riding a three-game win streak heading into their bout with the Leos at BC Place.

BC Lions Look to Climb out of the Cellar

The Lions are 2-4 this season. They are not off to the most promising start. They currently sit last place in the West.

The Lions turned to Travis Lulay after starter Jonathon Jennings struggled last week. The Lions lost the Calgary 27-18. The Lions got behind early, trailing by 14 at the half, and never recovered.

They are looking to Jennings to help turn their slow start to the season around.

Lulay completed 25-of-39 passes in the loss. He threw for 281 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Bryan Burnham was on the receiving end of the lone passing major. He finished the game with a team-high 76 yards.

Running back Jeremiah Johnson will be watching the game from the sidelines. This is after re-aggravating an ankle injury in the Lions loss to the Stamps. Travon Van will line up as the starter on Thursday.

The Lions’ defense will have to keep a dynamic Reilly contained if they hope to pick up a win. The Eskimos are averaging a league-best 342 yards per game on offense. The Lions defense is giving up 418 yards per game. That is the second-worst to only the Montreal Alouettes.

Eskimos are Trying to Keep Pace Atop the West

Edmonton came out on top of a back-and-forth tilt with the Saskatchewan Roughriders last week. They captured a 26-19 victory at Commonwealth Stadium.

Quarterback Mike Reilly threw for 257 yards, one touchdown pass, and one touchdown run. Heran into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown with less than three minutes to go.

Reilly’s go-to target of the night was Derel Walker. He hauled in six catches for 154 yards and a touchdown. Running back C.J. Gable also added to the offense. He rushed for 81 yards and a major on 14 carries.

The Eskimos are 5-2. They will need to keep on winning if they hope to keep pace with the undefeated Calgary Stampeders The Stampeders are 7-0.

Edmonton has won four straight games the Eskimoss have beaten the Lions. BC’s last win at home over Edmonton came on Oct. 22, 2016.

Mike Reilly is leading the league in passing touchdowns with 14. The 33-year-old has thrown 131 touchdown passes and 72 interceptions in his career. That is a ratio of 1.82 to 1.

Free NFL Preseason Week 1 Pick- Cleveland Browns at New York Giants

New York Giants

New York Giants Look to Put 2017 In Rear View Mirror

The 2017 NFL Season is thankfully over for the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns. They were the two worst teams in the NFL last season. They face one another in Week 1 of the 2018 preseason on Thursday night.  Cleveland is going on the road to play the New York Giants.

Game time from MetLife Stadium is set for 7 p.m. with the NFL Network carrying the game live. BetAnySports opened the Giants as 2.5-point home favorites with the total set at 34. The line is now Cleveland -1 and the total is at 35.

Cleveland failed to win a game last season at 0-16 straight-up. They were a costly 4-12 record against the spread. This followed a perfect 4-0 record SU and ATS in the preseason. That included a 10-6 victory against the Giants as a two-point underdog at home.

The closing total line in that game was 37.5 points.

Baker Mayfield Era Ready to Start in Cleveland?

It looks like the Browns will go with veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor as their starter for Week 1 of the regular season. Right now most eyes will be on Baker Mayfield. Especially tonight in NFL Preseason Week 1.

He was the first overall pick in this year’s draft. The former Oklahoma standout should see some substantial playing time in this game.

Another interesting addition through the draft was former Georgia running back Nick Chubb.

New York Giants are Ready to Move On

The Giants won 11 games in 2016 before plummeting to 3-13 SU last season. It was a rapid reversal of fortunes. New York went 7-9 ATS last season. The total stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing line in six of its last seven games of the 2017 regular season.

The Giants went 2-2 SU in the 2017 preseason with a 1-3 record ATS. The total was evenly split as well (2-2).

With the second overall pick in this year’s draft, new head coach Pat Shurmur decided to address the offense’s issues in the ground game. He selected former Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.

He should get a chance to show what he can do at the next level tonight. Eli Manning might see some action under center as well. The Giants are probably more interested in watching Davis Webb and Kyle Lauletta run the offense at quarterback.

Each of these teams is looking to quickly put the 2017 season in the rear view mirror. It is going take some time to turn things around. This should keep scoring to a minimum this Thursday night. Take the UNDER 35 on BetAnySports’ total line in this one.

Twins Mount Last-Ditch Effort Versus Indians

Cleveland Indians Baseball

Twins Looking to Keep Pace Against Indians

As expected, the defending AL Central champs from the Cleveland Indians (63-50, -13.51 betting units) are in very good shape to retain their division title. They’re not quite running away with it.

The Minnesota Twins (53-60, -7.11 units) still have a shot at overtaking the Tribe. Minnesota has to narrow the gap during their current four-game series at The Jake. It wraps up today at 1:10 PM ET.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, FS North (Minnesota), SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland).

PITCHING MATCHUP: Twins RH Jose Berrios (11-8, 3.51 ERA) vs. Indians RH Corey Kluber (14-6, 2.63).

ODDS: Indians -210-moneyline favorites. The total is at 7.5 -110.

Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Two-time and reigning AL Cy Young winner Corey Kluber will to start for the Tribe.

Kluber registered his first shutout of the season and the seventh of his career on Saturday. He held the Los Angeles Angels to three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.

The 32-year-old has given up one run over 16 1/3 innings in his last two starts. After going winless in the previous three, this was a needed turnaround. Kluber is 9-6 with a 3.36 ERA in 21 career starts against the Twins.

The Tribe hope to give Kluber some improved bullpen support during this playoff drive. They added relievers Brad Hand (2.92 ERA) and Adam Cimber (3.42 ERA) at last week’s trade deadline. They also added CF Leonys Martin (.748 OPS).

Leonys Martin, who has gone 5-for-15 with two homers since being acquired from Detroit, sat out Wednesday due to illness.

Twins Have to Have Great Pitching Against Indians

Berrios is pitching very well in his second full season in the bigs. The Twins are up 1.63 units behind Barrios on a record of 13-10.

Berrios has posted four quality starts in his last six outings. This includes Saturday's turn in which he limited Kansas City to two runs over seven innings. He earned the victory.

The 24-year-has permitted fewer than three runs in seven of his last 11 outings. He has gone 5-3 with eight quality starts in that stretch. Berrios is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts versus Cleveland this year.

Joe Mauer is 16-for-54 with two homers and five doubles versus Kluber.

Logan Forsythe is 9-for-20 with three RBIs during his six-game hitting streak after going 0-for-1 in his team debut on Aug. 1.
