Sunday Night Football: Detroit Lions Host the New England Patriots

Detroit Lions

Detroit Lions' Patricia Faces Former Boss Tonight

The New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions meet on Sunday Night Football. They will meet at Ford Field. NBC Sports will have the television coverage and kickoff is set for 8:20 pm EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Patriots as -7-point favorites versus the Lions, while the game's total opened at 50. The line is now New England -6.5 and the total has flown up to 55.

Matt Patricia had one of the best coaching gigs in the NFL. He was serving as defensive coordination under Bill Belichick on the staff of the New England Patriots.

Patricia parlayed his success in that post into his first head coaching job with the Detroit Lions. He will have to beat Belichick and the visiting Patriots on Sunday night to earn his first career victory.

Aside from matching wits with his mentor Belichick, Patricia must find a way to slow three-time NFL MVP Tom Brady. He is coming off a rare clunker in a 31-20 loss at Jacksonville.

Sunday's game could mark the Patriots debut of wide receiver Josh Gordon. He has been a limited participant in practice since he was acquired from the Cleveland Browns earlier this week.

New England is 45-6 after a loss since the 2003 season, last dropping back-to-back regular-season games in 2015.

Patriots Still Trying to Find Itself

The Patriots are 1-1 to start the new season. New England's defense looks like it could use Patricia back in his previous role. They allowed Jacksonville's Blake Bortles to throw for 376 yards and four touchdowns in last week's romp.

Trey Flowers is the team's top defensive lineman. He was knocked out of last week's game with a concussion. Safety Patrick Chung also suffered a concussion. Both have yet to practice this week and their availability looks increasingly in question.

Brady did connect with wideout Chris Hogan for a pair of scoring passes. James White was the leading receiver with seven catches for 73 yards. Rookie running back Sony Michel rushed for a team-high 34 yards on 10 carries in his NFL debut.

TE Rob Gronkowski has 10 receptions for 143 in the last two matchups versus Detroit.

New England is 52-13 against the NFC since realignment in 2002, the NFL's best inter-conference record in that span.

The Lions are Still Looking for Identity as a Team

The Lions are  off to an 0-2 start under their new regime. They have looked ragged and inconsistent so far under Patricia.

Detroit was shredded by the New York Jets 48-17 in the season opener at home. They fell behind by 17 points in the fourth quarter before Matthew Stafford threw a pair of touchdown passes in the three-point defeat.

Stafford has attempted 99 passes as the revamped running game has sputtered. Rookie Kerryon Johnson managed a team-high 60 yards on 13 carries.

Golden Tate and running back Theo Riddick share the team lead with 14 catches. Kenny Golladay is emerging as a dangerous weapon for Stafford. He has 13 receptions for a club-high 203 yards and a score.

The Lions could be without one of their top defenders with cornerback Darius Slay unable to practice this week due to a concussion.

Stafford has thrown for 2,900 yards and 20 touchdowns in his last 10 home games.

PREDICTION: Patriots 30, Lions 23

Los Angeles Rams

Rams Look to Stay Unbeaten

The Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams meet this Sunday in NFL Week 3 action. They will battle at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Kickoff is set for 4:05 pm EST and CBS will have the television coverage.

Oddsmakers opened the Rams as -7-point favorites versus the Chargers, while the game's total opened at 48.5. The line has held steady and the total is up to 49.

The Rams are undefeated and look every bit like a Super Bowl contender while the Chargers are coming off their first victory.

The Rams won their first two games by a combined score of 67-13. They also have a defense full of imported stars that is catching up to the offense in terms of explosive plays and production. The defense added cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters in the offseason.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is completing 73.1 percent of his passes for 680 yards and six touchdowns.

Rivers Always Make the Chargers Dangerous

The Chargers are 1-1 on the season. Philip Rivers will be charged with finding a way to move the ball against the Rams. Rivers has completed 73.1 percent of his passes for 680 yards and six touchdowns. He only  has one interception in the first two games of the season.

He ranks third in the NFL in touchdowns, fourth in total yards, completion percentage and passer rating (119.6) and sixth in completions. He has to keep playing well for this offense to move.

Rivers has passed for 746 yards and three touchdowns in three previous meetings against the Rams. He was 29 of 35 for 291 yards and a touchdown the last time the teams played.

Running back Melvin Gordon has contributed 92 yards rushing on 24 carries and one touchdown. He has a team-best 15 receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Austin Ekeler leads the Chargers in rushing with 116 yards on 16 carries.

Wide receiver Keenan Allen has added a team-high 175 receiving yards on 14 catches.

The Rams are 2-0 on the new season. Los Angeles added wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the offense as part of its active offseason. He is in the top five in the NFL with 246 receiving yards and 12 catches.

Jared Goff is completing 64.6 percent of his passes for 587 yards, three touchdowns and one interception with a passer rating of 102.5.

Todd Gurley has carried the ball a league-high 39 times for 150 yards and three touchdowns in two games. He also has six receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown. He is the workhorse the offense goes through.

PREDICTION: Rams 35, Chargers 17

BetAnySports Free NFL Week 3 Pick- New Orleans Saints at Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta Falcons Football

Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints Renew Rivalry

The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints is one of the most underrated rivalries in the NFL.They renew their rivalry in week 3 of the NFL Season.

A big NFC South matchup on FOX highlights this Sunday’s early games. The Saints are going on the road to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to face the Falcons. They are a three-point underdog.

BetAnySports has opened the total for this game at 53 points. It has inched up to 53.5. The Falcons opened as 3.5-point favorites. They are now down to 1.5.

The Saints are Ready to Compete for NFC South

The Saints moved to 1-1 straight-up with Sunday’s 21-18 grinder against Cleveland. They could not cover as heavy 9.5-point home favorites.

This was on the heels of a stunning 48-40 loss to Tampa Bay at home. They were 10-point favorites with BetAnySports. The total went OVER 49.5 points against the Bucs before staying UNDER the 51-point closing line against the Browns.

The Saints are dealing with the absence of Mark Ingram in the running game due to a four-game league suspension. Drew Brees has once again taken to the air to move this offense downfield. He has thrown for 682 yards and five touchdowns in his first two games.

New Orleans ran the ball 23 times against Cleveland for 62 total yards. Michael Thomas has 28 receptions for 269 yards and three scores in two games as the team’s leading receiver.

Atlanta Falcons Got Offense in Gear in Week 2

The Falcons got off to a tough start as well with an 18-12 loss to Philadelphia. The game closed as a PICK with BetAnySports.

Atlanta got in gear on offense against Carolina on Sunday in a 31-24 victory against another NFC South rival. They were a 5.5-point favorite at home. The total stayed UNDER 44 points against the Eagles. It went well OVER BetAnySports’ 43.5-point line in Week 2.

The Falcons have gone 4-2 both SU and against the spread in their last six home games against the Saints.

Matt Ryan drew some heat for his poor performance in the season opener. He was throwing heat against the Panthers with 272 yards passing and two touchdown throws while completing 23-of-28 attempts.

Julio Jones is off to another big start with 15 catches for 233 yards in his first two games. He has yet to catch a pass for a score.

Atlanta did not have Devonta Freeman in the lineup in Week 2. The offense still rushed for a total of 170 yards against Carolina.

This Sunday’s NFC South tilt should be a good one with a pair of veteran quarterbacks coming off big games. My early lean would be with Atlanta at home. BUT I am going with the OVER on the 53.5-point total line as my best bet.

Washington Huskies (12) Hosts Arizona State Sun Devils

Washington Huskies Football

Washington Huskies Looking for Revenge From Last Year

The fans at Husky Stadium will see the Arizona State Sun Devils and the Washington Huskies on Saturday night. This Pac-12 clash will be televised by ESPN. Kickoff is set for 10:30 pm EST.

Oddsmakers have the Huskies listed as 18-point favorites. The total is at 52.5.

Arizona State recorded a memorable upset of Washington last season. The 12th-ranked Huskies will be looking to exact some payback Saturday night in Pac-12 play.

Washington was 6-0 and a 17-point road favorite when it was handed a crushing 13-7 setback last October. The loss all but doused its College Football Playoff hopes.

The Huskies opened Pac-12 play with a win over Utah last Saturday.  The Sun Devils are looking to bounce back from a loss to San Diego State. They play their first Pac-12 game under first-year coach Herm Edwards.

Arizona State Trying to Make Some Noise Through the Air

The Sun Devils are 2-1 overall, and 0-0 in Pac-12 play. Senior quarterback Manny Wilkins has recorded back-to-back 300-yard passing outings. He has thrown for 958 yards and seven touchdowns with only two interceptions.

Standout junior wideout N'Keal Harry has 21 catches for 315 yards and four touchdowns. He ranks fifth in school history with 161 receptions.

Senior safety Jalen Harvey had a career-best 13 tackles against San Diego State. He leads a unit allowing 16 points per game with 25 stops. Junior defensive end Darius Slade has a team-high 2.5 sacks. He is hoping to return from a hand injury that caused him to miss the loss to the Aztecs.

The Sun Devils allowed 311 rushing yards in the loss to San Diego State.

Arizona State has won 11 of the past 12 meetings and holds a 19-16 lead in the series.

Huskies Have to Get Browning on Track

Washington is 2-1 overall to start the season, and 1-0 in Pac-12 play. Senior quarterback Jake Browning was held to 139 passing yards in last year's loss to the Sun Devils. He's thrown the same number of touchdowns and interceptions (four) this season while passing for 764 yards.

Senior running back Myles Gaskin has rushed for 271 yards and two touchdowns. He is coming off his best effort of the season after rushing for 143 yards and a score on 30 carries against the Utes.

WR Aaron Fuller has 19 receptions and 317 yards this season. He has two 100-yard receiving outings and caught at least six passes in each game.

The Huskies allow just 10.3 points per game. Senior linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven has a team-best 33 tackles. Junior safety Taylor Rapp has team highs of three sacks and three fumble recoveries to lead the charge on defense.

PREDICTION: Washington 26, Arizona State 17
