MLB Odds Favor D-Backs, Reputation Favors Giants
The surging Arizona Diamondbacks have an opportunity to put yet more space between themselves and the reigning World Series champion San Francisco Giants this weekend. The question is, can they actually follow through?
What was once looking like a tightly-fought NL West division race has blown right open thanks to the D-Backs' late-August success. Now, with a three-game set on the horizon, the Giants can either start clawing back at the lead, or continue their downward spiral. As far as the MLB betting world is concerned, the Giants are a superbly-staffed club with winning experience. Arizona, in contrast, is still very much an unproven commodity. That may be why the D-Backs sit with just 18/1 odds of winning the World Series compared to San Francisco?s 25/1 despite the gap in the standings. With the wild card berth essentially locked down by the NL East?s Atlanta Braves, it's all or nothing for the rivalry in the west. If Arizona can hold on to their playoff ticket, it will be their first trip to the postseason since 2007. Led by Justin Upton and a contingent of well-rounded young hitters, not to mention revitalized ace Dan Haren, the Diamondbacks have seemingly come out of nowhere to emerge as a legitimate MLB betting option. It may be hard to completely buy into the D-Backs? as contenders philosophy, but those who do stand the chance of collecting a significant payout. CFL Odds Board in Flux as Bubble Contenders Clash
Lost in the hype of the the CFL's elite are a pair of wayward franchises sputtering in two of the country's largest markets. Though it may not be the best for business in big cities, it only adds drama to the CFL betting field.
This Friday the Toronto Argonauts, four years removed from a plus-.500 season and on the verge of missing the playoffs altogether, will host the equally disenfranchised B.C. Lions. The match up may lack the fanfare of a contender tilt elsewhere in the Canadian Football League, but it's a reflection of the power shift in the game, and specifically the dog fight on the horizon at the bottom of the CFL betting board. Though they each won their most recent match ups in Week 8, Toronto over Saskatchewan and B.C. over Edmonton, their desperate attempts to cling to a playoff berth are only just beginning. With the current CFL playoff format, six of the league?s eight teams will qualify for a berth. That?s why, despite their 2-6 record, the Lions have 10/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup. The reason the Lions face 10/1 odds, as opposed to Toronto's 30/1, is because B.C. currently sits third in the West Division (ahead of the 1-7 Saskatchewan Roughriders). The Argos, two games behind 4-4 Hamilton, sit fourth in the East. Not all however is lost for Toronto, thanks to the CFL?s crossover playoff berth which allows a fourth-place team in one division to steal the berth of a third-place team in the opposing conference so long as they finish with more points in the regular season standings. That backdoor entrance to the postseason is what will make this Friday?s basement-dwelling showdown an event with utmost playoff implications. College Football Betting Kicks off with No. 4 Tigers and No. 3 Ducks
Amid the celebration and excitement over the dawn of a new NCAA football season, nestled between masses of cupcake opponents and non-conference showdowns, lies one of the most anticipated match ups of the college football season.
This Saturday, at a neutral location, the No. 4-ranked LSU Tigers will play host to the No. 3-ranked Oregon Ducks. You can bet on the big game with Bodog's college football odds. Fresh off a drama-filled offseason in which LSU head coach Les Miles was blasted by a former offensive coordinator, and quarterback Jordan Jefferson was caught fighting in a bar, the Tigers may still present as one of the nation?s top programs. According to Bodog, the Tigers sit with 14/1 odds on the college football futures list. Think they can follow through? The Ducks, however, have not been without their own offseason melodrama, thanks to questions of recruiting violations centered on head coach Chip Kelly and his involvement with controversial scouting service owner Willie Lyles. Regardless of the summer commotion, both programs are expected to produce legitimate national contenders, the Tigers in the competitive SEC and the Ducks in the Pac-12. In addition to 5/2 odds of winning their newly-expanded conference, the Ducks also have 14/1 odds of winning the BCS national championship. With so much going on off the field, will these programs be ready to kick off their season the right way? Get your college football odds at Bodog. The AL West Division Race: Baseball Betting's Final Frontier
The American League playoff picture may not be officially confirmed as the dog days of August wage on, but the MLB betting board has certainly started to get predictable in terms of which teams will be playing into October.
In one division though, perhaps the only one with any form of intrigue remaining, the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels find themselves in competition for the AL West pennant and the resulting postseason berth that comes with it. Starting this Friday, the Rangers - currently up - will host their division rivals looking to widen the gap that separates them. The loser, thanks to the dual dominance of Boston and New York in the East, will forfeit their chance at a title. After winning the American League last year before falling to the San Francisco Giants in the World Series, the Rangers are the expected favorite on the MLB futures board with 10/1 odds. The Angels sit considerably further back with 35/1 odds of winning the World Series. Though it won't be easy for them to claw their way back to the top of the AL West, the upcoming weekend series is as good a place as any to start. If the squad can get behind revitalized ace Dan Haren and start knocking off some much needed victories starting this Friday at 8 PM EST, the Angels could temporarily be one of the most lucrative contenders in baseball. National League Standings Suggest Heated Wild Card Race
September is fast approaching, Major League Baseball playoff races have begun to heat up. As such, the National League is home to a series of tight divisions and what?s shaping up to be an interesting wild card stretch.
In a perfect example of what fans of MLB betting have to look forward to in the coming weeks, this Monday the Atlanta Braves will host the reigning champion San Francisco Giants in a four-game set. Though they won it all just last season, the Giants will have their work cut out for them ensuring that they give themselves the opportunity to repeat last year?s feat. According to Bodog's online sportsbook, they have 12/1 odds of winning the World Series. Currently neck and neck with the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West, the Giants will have to either take the outright lead of their division or settle for the league wild card. For the Braves, however, that's unacceptable. Despite an admirable record, the Braves (and everyone else in the NL for that matter) currently trail the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies, effectively putting the division out of reach. With that in consideration, Atlanta's sole hope for qualifying for the postseason in 2011 will be via the wild card spot - which they currently hold. You can imagine, then, that they'll be particularly committed to shoring up their bid for the berth against one of their biggest threats. According to Bodog, the Braves have 15/1 odds of winning the World Series. Those may jump considerably as the National League fluctuates over the next two months. Winnipeg Blue Bombers: Early Fluke or High Payout CFL Bet Option
A season ago the Winnipeg Blue Bombers were a nonfactor, the lone East Division team to miss the boat on the playoffs. Their 4-14 record wasn't just last in their own conference though, but also the entire league.
This season, however, they've emerged as one of the most intriguing options on the odds board. Through 2011's first six weeks, the Blue Bombers have not only turned their fortunes around, but done so dramatically. They currently sit first in the East Division and tied in the CFL for the best record. Their defense has allowed the fewest amount of points against this season - by far. Perhaps most impressively, they've already won more games than last year out. Why then, do they have just 7/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup? This Saturday, Winnipeg will have an opportunity to extend their 5-1 mark to 6-1, as they host the last-place B.C. Lions. A victory may well raise their stock in the eyes of oddsmakers but likely not by much. Despite their success so far this season, they remain closer to the bottom of the barrel than the top when it comes to CFL futures. Will Winnipeg's success last over the course of the season? It may be tough with the Montreal Alouettes on their heels and with the West Division sharpening their teeth as they year progresses, but at least the Blue Bombers can take solace in the fact that no matter what happens over the remaining 12 weeks, they've already improved in the win column. Just Short of Wild Card, Rays Stand to Yield Significant Payout
If the Tampa Bay Rays hope to factor into the American League wild card conversation this September they'll have to gain ground on the incumbent New York Yankees, who currently hold the spot just behind the first-place Boston Red Sox.
They'll have an opportunity to do so this weekend, so bet on Major League Baseball with Bodog. From Friday to Saturday the Bronx Bombers will host the Rays at Yankee Stadium and the hometown team will be looking to strengthen their grip on second, perhaps even make a move for first. Tampa Bay, who badly need to come out on top in order to stay relevant down the playoff stretch, are looking for their third postseason berth in four years after going 10 years without one upon their 1998 expansion. According to Bodog's online sportsbook, the Tampa Bay outlook is grim. The Rays have just 125/1 odds to win the World Series, no doubt due to the fact that both the Yankees and Red Sox have looked so strong in 2011. The Yankees have 6/1 odds of winning the World Series. The Red Sox have 13/4. If the Rays can make noise in August and September, potentially even threatening for the AL?s wild card berth, they could pay out significantly. Might the odds shift dramatically after this series if the Rays can stick it to the second-place Yankees over the weekend? CFL Betting Board Heats Up As Eskimos Face Alouettes
The Edmonton Eskimos may have had their undefeated record soiled last week against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, but that doesn?t mean they?re no longer a legitimate option when it comes to CFL betting.
This Thursday the Eskimos will head to Montreal to face another East Division juggernaut, the two-time reigning champion Alouettes. Can they bounce back in time to reclaim the momentum lost in Week 6? Bet on the CFL now. According to Bodog?s online sportsbook, the Eskimos have 4/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup. Though football fans will knock them slightly for falling to Winnipeg, they remain one of the toughest teams in the CFL behind the resurgence of quarterback Ricky Ray. In Montreal, the last three weeks haven?t gone as smoothly. Though 4-2 now, the Als started to show cracks in Weeks 4 and 5, dropping a pair of matches to the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Is this the end of the road for veteran QB Anthony Calvillo? If Week 6 is any indication, not quite. A 36-23 victory over the lowly Toronto Argonauts may be all the Alouettes need to get back on track in their pursuit of a three-peat. Might this Week 7 tilt be a preview of the Grey Cup? UFC 133 Betting Preview at Bodog
UFC 133 Betting Preview at Bodog
By Richard Gardner It's a great month for mixed martial arts as the UFC stages two cards in August, starting with this Saturday's UFC 133 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia? next is UFC 134 at the end of the month in Rio de Janeiro. The main event on Saturday features a light heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans and former champion Tito Ortiz. It was originally supposed to be Phil Davis against Evans but Davis had to pull out injured. Then reportedly both Ortiz and Lyoto Machida turned down the chance to replace Evans before Ortiz had a change of mind. You have to give him credit as Ortiz will be fighting for the second time in a little more than a month. On July 2 at UFC 132, Ortiz (16-8-1) took a first-round submission win over Ryan Bader, a result that saved the 36-year-old's job. Leading up to the fight, UFC president Dana White made it clear Ortiz needed a win to continue his UFC career, having dropped four of his last five heading into that bout. Evans (15-1-1), a former light heavyweight champion himself, hasn't fought since earning a unanimous decision win over Quinton Jackson in May 2010 at UFC 114. Crowned the No. 1 contender following that fight, Evans was scheduled to face then-champion Mauricio Rua at UFC 128 last March but Rua required knee surgery. He was then set to face current champ Jon Jones, but that fight was scrapped due to an injury to Jones' thumb. This bout will be a rematch of a controversial draw between the two at UFC 73 in July 2007. Ortiz was penalized for grabbing the fence in the fight, which ultimately prevented him from taking a decision. Since the judges awarded Ortiz two of the three rounds, the deduction resulted in scores of 28-28 across the board. Thus Ortiz obviously would have won without the deduction. "Tito's gonna try and take me down, try some ground and pound. That was his game plan in the first fight, and I'll think he'll try that again, Evans said "I'm that much faster than him, as long I keep moving at all times and use my speed, he'll be making a mistake stepping into the cage with me. I'm confident no matter where the fight goes. ? There's no doubt in my mind I'll defeat Tito Ortiz. That I know for sure.? Evans opened as the -400 favorite at Bodog with Ortiz at +300 and those numbers haven?t changed. Ortiz has taken about 58 percent of the action thus far. Evans is 2-0 in his UFC career as the betting favorite while Ortiz is 1-3 as the betting underdog. When the last bout ended in a draw, the odds closed at Evans -105 and Ortiz at -125. White has said a victory for Evans means a title shot against the winner of the bout between Jones and Jackson at UFC 135 in late September and even hinted the same could be true for Ortiz. Saturday's co-featured bout pits Vitor Belfort against Yoshihiro Akiyama in a middleweight contest. Belfort (19-9) enters the fight coming off of a first-round knockout loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 126 in early February. Prior to that he had won five fights in a row. Akiyama (13-3) is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his career and fighting for his UFC survival. He last fought Michael Bisping at UFC 120 last October. The betting on this bout has been very lopsided. Belfort opened at -275 but is now at -285 because he has taken more than 93 percent of the action. Akiyama moved from +215 to +225. Belfort is 1-0 as the betting favorite while Akiyama is 1-1 as the betting underdog.Banner -Online Sports Bettingat Bodog Sportsbook

Streaking Tiger-Cats Hit the Road Against Calgary
Lost in the shuffle of Edmonton's undefeated 2011 season and Montreal's bid for a third-straight Grey Cup title, there have been two CFL clubs that have quietly put their work in early this year and seen it pay off.
This Saturday the 3-2 Calgary Stampeders will host the 3-2 Hamilton Tiger-Cats as each looks to improve their position in their respective division coming off of significant Week 5 victories. Have an idea of how the match up will unfold? Bet on the CFL with Bodog For the hometown Stampeders it will be a third opportunity to win their first home game of 2011. Despite their above .500 record, is 3-0 on the road and winless at McMahon Stadium, a surprising trend for the team that finished with the top record in the CFL in 2010. After struggling early, in Week 5 the Stampeders took down the reigning Grey Cup runner up Saskatchewan Roughriders. Will this Saturday serve as the next stepping stone for the franchise hungry to climb back into contention? Coming off a victory over the Montreal Alouettes the Tiger-Cats are riding high and will be no easy opponent. After starting the season in a 0-2 hole, Hamilton has knocked off three straight with no signs of slowing down. Is the momentum enough to vault them into the top of the East Division standings? They currently have 5/1 odds of winning the Grey Cup. The once-favored Stampeders currently sit third in the CFL with 7/2 odds.
