Gray Faces Red Sox in Oakland Tonight

Athletics and Red Sox

Red Sox Velazquez Makes MLB Debut

The Oakland A's will send vaunted veteran Sonny Gray to the mound tonight to face the Boston Red Sox. The game will have first pitch at 10:05 EST from Oakland Coliseum. The Boston Red Sox counter with Hector Velazquez who will be making his MLB debut. Injuries to David Price and Drew Pomeranz forced the Red Sox into making the move to Velazquez.

The delapidated Coliseum is a pitchers ballpark and should help the rookie in his debut. It also helps that Oakland is one of the worst offensive teams in Major League Baseball. Velazquez was promoted from the team's Triple-A team, Pawtucket. He had a stellar 1.55 ERA this season.

Oddsmakers have the Red Sox as -113 favorites on the moneyline. The total is sitting at 8.

The Red Sox endured a long day Wednesday. They needed 13 innings to earn a 5-4 victory that completed a two-game interleague sweep at St. Louis.

The A's won just once on a six-game trip to Texas and Seattle. The Athletics allowed six runs in four consecutive games. The Mariners then shut them out 4-0 on Wednesday.

Sonny Gray hasn't won a game since last July 26. That was seven starts ago. Gray had his 2016 season interrupted by injuries. The Athletics eventually cut his season short.

Game Four of NHL Eastern Conference Finals in Ottawa

NHL Eastern Conference Finals

Senators a Surprise in NHL Eastern Conference

Coming into the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs hockey fans expected to see the Pittsburgh Penguins, make a deep run again this spring. What they didn’t expect was that the Pens would be facing an eighth-seeded Ottawa Senators team. Especially in the Eastern Conference Finals. Now Ottawa is the only Canadian team remaining in the playoffs. The Senators have an entire country rooting for them to make their first Cup appearance since 2006-07. They lost to the Anaheim Ducks in five games. The Sens seem to have captured the kind of magic necessary to be successful in the playoffs, having won seven games in overtime through the first three rounds, including two games in double overtime.

Bet on hockey at Bodog and get a free 100% bonus.

The Penguins have been impressive thus far despite a plethora of injuries to key players. They defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets in five games and beat the league’s top team, the Washington Capitals, in seven games. However, the offensively-gifted Pens have had difficulties scoring against a defensively-minded Ottawa team, managing to post only two goals in the first two games at home. Pittsburgh will need more out of their star-studded lineup on the road if they hope to crack the defensive wall that Ottawa has created around goaltender Craig Anderson. Game time is 8 PM ET.

NBA Eastern Conference Finals: Will Cavaliers Be Rusty in Game 1?

Eastern Conference Finals

Cavs Been Off for 10 Days

The Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t played since eliminating the Toronto Raptors on May 7. They’ll get their first taste of action in 10 days when they visit the Boston Celtics. Tonight's game will be tipping off at 8:30 PM ET on TNT. Will the Cavaliers be too rusty to compete at a high level? Or will this extended vacation help them?

Oddsmakers have the Cavaliers as 4-point favorites and the total is at 220.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a free 100% bonus.

It didn’t seem to bother them in the first round. The Cavaliers had a full week off after sweeping the Indiana Pacers, and they played even better against the Raptors, taking that series 4-0 SU and 3-0-1 ATS. The time off is incredibly valuable for James. He’s been to the NBA Finals in each of the past six seasons, and his Cavaliers are widely expected to make it seven in a row.

Boston might have betting value here despite going the full seven games against the Washington Wizards. That series wrapped up Monday night at the Garden with the Celtics winning 115-105 as 5.5-point favourites. It was the C’s who finished first in the Eastern Conference this year, although the Cavs had the better point differential at plus-3.2, a half-point better than Boston.

Royals Going for 5th Straight Against Yankees

Royals MLB

Tonights Starters Struggling for Both Teams

The Kansas City Royals battle the New York Yankees at Royals Stadium on Tuesday Night. The Royals are in last place in the AL Central, but are going for a season-high fifth straight win.  The Royals are fresh off a weekend sweep against the Baltimore Orioles.

Two struggling veterans will be on the mound Tuesday night for the series opener. Left-hander CC Sabathia is 2-2, 5.77 ERA will start for the Yankees. Right-hander Jason Hammel is 1-4, 5.97 ERA and takes the hill for the Royals.

Sabathia began the season 2-0 with a 1.47 ERA in his first three starts. The 36-year-old is 0-2 with a 9.58 ERA since then. He has given up 22 earned runs on 30 hits. CC has given up five home runs over 20 2/3 innings. The once-dominant Sabathia has not recorded double-digit wins since 2013. He was 14-13 that year. He had a losing record in each of the past three seasons.

KC's Jason Hammel was a 15-game winner last year with the World Series champion Chicago Cubs. He begins games in fine fashion before struggling. He has a 1.93 ERA in the first two innings of his seven starts. Opponents are hitting .235 off him in the first two frames. However from the third inning on, Hammel has an 8.71 ERA. He has surrendered 20 earned runs in 20 2/3 innings while opponents bat .363 against him.

Oddsmakers opened the Yankees as -105-moneyline favorites versus the Royals, while the game's total opened at 8.5. The Yankees are now -115 favorites on the moneyline and the total has climbed to 10.

Last time out for Kansas City, they were a 9-8 winner as they battled the Orioles on the road. Moneyline bettors who got the Royals at 125 were rewarded, while the 17 combined runs moved the game OVER for totals bettors.

New York was a 10-7 loser in its last match on the road against the Astros. They lost as -121 favorites, while the total score of 17 made winners of OVER bettors.

NHL Western Conference Finals Knotted at 1 Game Each

2017 NHL Western Conference Finals

Ducks Erase 2-goal Lead to Even Series

The Anaheim Ducks and the Nashville Predators will battle in Game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Finals on Tuesday when they meet at Bridgestone Arena. The Anaheim Ducks overcame a two goal deficit to beat the Nashville Predators 5-3 on Sunday Night.

Things got heated as the teams established a level of hatred one would expect with a conference final. Anaheim's Ryan Kesler and Nashville's Ryan Johansen yapped at each other and exchanged slashes most of the night. Predators forward Filip Forsberg snuck in a stick to the groin of the Ducks' Jacob Silfverberg just before the second period ended. The officials missed that one along with a two-hander to the back of the legs of Nashville defenseman P.K. Subban late in the third period.

Oddsmakers opened the Predators as -150-moneyline favorites versus the Ducks, while the game's total opened at 5.

Nashville's bigger concern could be goalie Pekka Rinne. After allowing just 16 goals in the first 11 games, Rinne permitted four goals on 26 shots Sunday. That included a pair high to the blocker side. This an area Anaheim believes it can beat the 6-foot-5 netminder.

Rinne and his teammates should get a boost from returning to Bridgestone Arena. They have won all five postseason games this spring by a combined score of 15-6. Dating to April 25, 2016, the Predators have captured nine straight games in front of their home crowd.

NBA Playoffs: Tuesday Free Pick- San Antonio at Golden State Game 2

Golden State Basketball

Spurs Look to Rebound in Game 2

The Western Conference Finals matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors resumes tonight at Oracle Arena with Game 2 of this best-of-seven showdown. BetAnySports has opened the Warriors as heavy 13-point home favorites and the total line for this 9 p.m. start on ESPN is set at 212 points.

San Antonio had a golden opportunity to gain the early edge in this series after opening up a 25-point lead in Sunday’s Game 1, but it all came crashing down in a 113-111 loss as a 10-point underdog on the road. The total went OVER BetAnySports’ closing 209.5-point line and it has gone OVER in 10 of the Spurs' first 13 games in this season’s playoffs. They are now 3-4 straight-up in seven postseason road games with a 4-3 record against the spread.

One of the biggest reasons why San Antonio blew such a large lead was the loss of Kawhi Leonard in the third quarter with an ankle injury. He already missed the final game of the previous series against Houston and his playing status for Tuesday night is listed as questionable. He was the team’s leading scorer in the regular season with 25.5 points per game and he is averaging 27.7 PPG in the playoffs.

Golden State Had Huge Comeback in Game 1

While Golden State did look a bit rusty for most of Game 1, it also showed the form down the stretch that has led to a perfect 9-0 SU run through these playoffs. The Warriors have gone 5-4 ATS and the total has gone OVER in six of the nine games. Going all the way back to mid-March, the Warriors have just one SU loss in their last 25 games, but they have failed to cover in three of their last five contests.

The combination of Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant proved to be just too much to stop in Sunday’s amazing comeback. Curry led all scorers with 40 points while connecting on seven of his 16 shots from three-point range and Durant added 34 points to the winning cause. Golden State shot 48.1 percent from the field and it went 11-for-30 from beyond the arc. The Warriors were the highest scoring team in the NBA during the regular season with 115.9 PPG and they are averaging 115.0 points in the playoffs.

Leonard’s playing status could have an impact on BetAnySports’ closing betting lines for Game 2, but for now I am going with the OVER on its 210-point total line in what should still be another high scoring affair.

Two Titles on the Line at UFC 211

UFC 211 Card

UFC 211 Primed to be a Good One

The UFC returns to Dallas with a vengeance this Saturday for a major PPV event: UFC 211, featuring two championship bouts at the top of the card. First, Joanna Jedrzejczyk (–165) will defend her Women’s Strawweight title against Jessica Andrade. Then Stipe Miocic (–140) will try to fend off Heavyweight challenger and former champ Junior dos Santos in the main event.

Bet on MMA at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Jedrzejczyk (13-0 lifetime, 7-0 UFC) has yet to taste defeat in the Octagon, but she’ll face one of her toughest opponents yet in Andrade (16-5 lifetime, 7-3 UFC), who has won three straight fights since dropping down from Bantamweight last June. The Brazilian native earned performance bonuses for her last two bouts, a submission win over Joanne Calderwood (+105) and a unanimous decision over Angela Hill (+350).

The main event between Miocic (16-2 lifetime, 10-2 UFC) and dos Santos (18-4 lifetime, 12-3 UFC) is a rematch of their 2014 bout, where dos Santos prevailed in a unanimous, but close decision that saw both fighters earn performance bonuses. Since then, Miocic has won four straight fights and the Heavyweight belt, while dos Santos is 1-1 after taking a year off from active competition.

Wizards Look to Force Game 7 at Home Against Celtics

2017 NBA Playoffs Wizards

Series History Bodes Well for Wizards

The Boston Celtics and the Washington Wizards play Game Six of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series on Friday. They battle it out at Verizon Center. Tip is set for 8 pm. EST and ESPN will televise the matchup.

These teams have played nine times this season. Five of those games in their Eastern Conference semifinal series. The home team is 9-0. That bodes well for the Wizards with Game 6 on their court Friday night. The Wizards will have to keep the Celtics' role players from producing as they did in Game 5.

Oddsmakers opened the Wizards as -5.5-point favorites versus the Celtics, while the game's total opened at 216.5.

Boston leads the best-of-seven series 3-2. The Celtics 123-101 romp over Washington on Wednesday may be a telling sign. Avery Bradley scored 25 of his 29 points in the first half. He fueled a 16-0 run in the first quarter that gave the Celtics all the breathing room they needed. The margin never dipped below eight over the final 41 minutes.

The Celtics shot 65 percent from the field in the first quarter and 53 percent overall, including 16 of 33 on 3-point attempts.

The Wizards cruised at home thanks to runs of 22 and 26 consecutive points last game in Washington. They won't need such a dominant surge to force a Game 7. They will need a better effort on both ends of the court than what they gave on Wednesday. Washington shot 38.5 percent from the field. A dismal 7 of 29 from beyond the arc was the kicker. John Wall had 21 points but a playoff-low four assists.

Nashville Predators Make First Ever Conference Finals Appearance

Nashville Predators

Nashville Predators Battle Anaheim Ducks

Following a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on May 7, the Nashville Predators officially entered uncharted territory: the NHL Conference Finals. It seems as though the gutsy moves that General Manager David Poile made over the past two seasons, namely trading away prized young defenseman Seth Jones to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Center Ryan Johansen and trading team captain Shea Weber to the Montreal Canadiens for offensively-gifted PK Subban, are bearing fruit. Despite qualifying for the 2016-17 Playoffs as the final wildcard team in the West, the Preds lost just one game through the first two series.

Oddsmakers for the opening game have the Ducks as -114 moneyline favorites. The total is at 5.

Bet on the Stanley Cup Finals at Bovada and get a free 100% bonus.

To understand Nashville’s playoff success, look no further than their blueline. Through the first nine games of the playoffs, their defensive corps has amassed a staggering nine goals and 16 assists. Defenseman Ryan Ellis leads the team with nine points (4 goals, 5 assists), while both Roman Josi and PK Subban have contributed eight points apiece. While their offensive numbers are off the charts, their defensive stats are equally impressive. They’ve given up three goals in a game only once this post season and have held their opponents to one goal or less in six of nine playoff games. Nashville will have a hard time maintaining this pace going forward. Don’t be surprised if you see the yellow and blue come June.
