AL Wild-Card: Yankees Host Twins in Wild-Card Showdown

AL Wild-Card is Winner Take All

After missing out on winning the American League East, the New York Yankees will host the Minnesota Twins in the Wild Card game on Tuesday.

Both teams defied projections by "experts". The teams claimed the two wild-card spots in the American League. The winner advances to the AL Division Series against the Cleveland Indians.

Oddsmakers have the Yankees as a -250-moneyline favorite. The total is sitting at 7.5.

Minnesota’s Ervin Santana (16-8, 3.28 ERA) threw five scoreless innings in his last outing, but took a no-decision in a 5-2 loss in Cleveland. Santana lost his lone start against the Yankees in 2017, allowing two runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings, with three strikeouts and a walk. The Twins fell 2-1 in New York on September 18. Santana was 10-3 in 17 road starts with a 2.71 ERA in 2017.

New York’s Luis Severino (14-6, 2.98 ERA) won his last start, a 6-1 victory at home against Tampa Bay. Over six innings, he allowed a run on four hits, struck out nine and walked one. Severino lasted just three innings in his only start against the Twins this season, scattering three runs on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. This season, Severino was 8-5 in 16 home starts with a 3.71 ERA.

The Yankees won four of six meetings against the Twins this season, losing two of three in Minnesota, but they swept three games at home. Five of the six went under the posted total.

KC Chiefs Return to Monday Night Football

NFL Week 4 Pick- Pittsburgh at Baltimore

NFL Week 4 has Huge Showdown Set in AFC North

Sunday’s early games in Week 4 of the NFL season features a big showdown in the AFC North. The matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens is a 1 p.m. kickoff. Steelers having Issues on Defense

19th-Ranked San Diego State Hosts Northern Illinois

San Diego State Wary of Dangerous Huskies Team

The fans at Qualcomm Stadium will be treated to a game between the NIU Huskies and the 19th-ranked San Diego State Aztecs when they take their seats on Saturday. The game will be televised by CBS Sports Network and kickoff is set for 10:30 pm EST.

Oddsmakers have the Aztecs as 9-point favorites after opening at 12. The total is at 47.5.

San Diegs State Has One of Top Rushing Offenses in Nation

San Diego State won its last outing, a 28-24 result against the Air Force Falcons on September 23. The Aztecs covered in that game as a -1.5-point favorite, while the 52 combined points took the game OVER the total.

Rashaad Penny's 53-yard touchdown run was the deciding factor last week. It was his third score of the game. The run helped him earn Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week honors for a fourth consecutive time in 2017. Huskies Will Depend on Stout Defense

NIU was a 21-17 winner in their most recent outing It was a road upset against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. They covered the +10.5-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (38) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Northern Illinois is coming off a bye week. It followed its 21-17 road win against Nebraska on Sept. 16. The Huskies have proven to be adept at not allowing big-yardage plays through three games. They rank No. 8 in runs of 10 or more yards allowed. UNI's D has given up just nine. They have surrendered just two rushes of 20-plus yards. They have given up none of 30 or more.
