Central Florida and Navy Clash in AAC Football Action

Central Florida and Navy Should be a Shootout

The 20th-ranked Central Florida Knights and the Navy Midshipmen meet on Saturday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. These American Athletic Conference rivals will kick-off at 3:30 pm EST. CBS Sports Network will have all the action.

High-scoring and Eastern Division Leader, Central Florida and  West division foe Navy have offenses that are enough to create plenty of sleepless nights for opposing defensive coordinators. Navy and its option-oriented offense and Central Florida with its spread option attack are expected to put up a lot of points today.

Oddsmakers have Central Florida at 10-point favorites. The total is at 65.5. This line opened at UCF as 6-point favorites.

Navy Poses Special Challenges for Central Florida

The Midshipmen, under 10th-year coach Ken Niumatalolo, are averaging 6.2 yards per carry as a team. They lead the nation with an average of 397.5 rushing yards.

Navy is averaging 35.5 points per game. Navy was ranked 25th last week before falling 30-27 on Saturday at Memphis. Quarterback Zach Abey lost three fumbles and had two passes intercepted.

It was the most turnovers for Navy since making six against Boston College nearly 15 years ago.

Abey is a definitive threat on the ground. He has carried 183 times for 1,016 yards and 12 scores.

Central Florida Looks to Keep Offense Rolling

Central Florida is averaging a nation's best 50.6 points per game. They are coming off a 63-21 home shellacking of East Carolina on Saturday.

Quarterback McKenzie Milton completed 21 of 27 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Greg McCrae ran six times for 67 yards. Mike Hughes returned a punt 66 yards for a touchdown against ECU. Milton's passing efficiency rating of 203.6 ranks second nationally behind Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield.

Lakers on Road to Battle Phoenix Suns

Suns and Lakers Top Draft Picks Square Off Tonight

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Phoenix Suns meet at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Friday night. Both teams are coming off opening night losses. Tip-off is set for 10 pm EST.

Lonzo Ball and Josh Jackson will begin what could become a great rivalry Friday night. Both will be hoping to flush the bad games of their pro debuts.

Ball was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft. He is a point guard that was taken by arguably the best point guard in NBA history. The Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson traded point guard D'Angelo Russell to create space for Ball.

Jacksonis a small forward and was the fourth player taken. The Suns are so high on him that they did not even talk when the Cleveland Cavaliers asked about him as a possible piece in a potential Kyrie Irving trade last summer.

Oddsmakers opened the Lakers as 0-point favorites versus the Suns, while the game's total opened at 223.

Phoenix Suns Got Hammered Opening Night

Last time out for Phoenix, they were a 124-76 loser as they battled the Portland Trail Blazers at home. The Suns failed to cover in the match as a +2.5-point underdog, while 200 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

The Suns can only improve from the mess that was their home opener on Wednesday. The Portland Trail Blazers gave the Suns the worst loss in franchise history. It was the worst opening-day loss in NBA history.

The Suns shot 31.5 percent from the field and were outrebounded 57-33.

Jackson had 11 points, two rebounds and an assist while starting on a front line.  He started alongside and TJ Warren. Jackson made 1 of 2 3-point attempts in 32 minutes.

Guard Eric Bledsoe shot 8 of 35 from the field in preseason, made 5 of 18 field-goal attempts in the opener. He led the team with 15 points against Portland. Booker had 12 points on 6-of-17 shooting.

Lakers Look to Keep Ball from Getting Man-Handled

Los Angeles was a 108-92 loser in its last match at home against the Los Angeles Clippers. They failed to cover the +6.5-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 200 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

Ball had three points on his lone basket, a 3-pointer. He added nine rebounds and four assists in 29 minutes on Thursday. He was held out of the last four preseasons games because of an ankle injury.

The Lakers traded Russell, who was the second overall pick in the 2015 draft in the off-season.  They added veterans Brook Lopez and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The Lakers also maintained enough cap room for the coming off-season. Magic Johnson wants to be able to afford potential free agents such as LeBron James or Paul George.

Lopez scored 20 points against the Clippers. Power forward Larry Nance Jr. had 14.  Caldwell-Pope will miss his second straight game Friday. He is sitting out a two-game suspension for being arrested and pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated.

Pelicans Host Warriors Friday Night on ESPN

Pelicans and Warriors Looking for 1st Win

The Golden State Warriors and the New Orleans Pelicans will both be looking for their first wins on Friday when they meet at Smoothie King Center.

The Warriors limp into tonights matchup, and the Pelicans are happy to see what their twin towers down low can accomplish.

Oddsmakers opened the Warriors as -6.5-point favorites versus the Pelicans, while the game's total opened at 224. The line has moved to Golden State -8.5. The total has dropped to 221.

Pelicans Anxious to See Results of Davis and Cousins

New Orleans was a 103-91 loser in its last match on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies. They failed to cover the +2-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 194 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

The Pelicans showed in the loss at Memphis on Wednesday that Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins can post good numbers. But can they get any help is the big question.

Davis had 33 points and 18 rebounds. Cousins added 28 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high seven blocks. The real problem is that guard E'Twaun Moore, with 11 points, was the only other player in double figures.

Point guard Jrue Holiday scored four points on 2-of-11 shooting. He had only four assists and three turnovers. Holiday moved to the point while Rajon Rondo is recovering from sports hernia surgery.

Warriors are Battling Injury Bug Early On

Golden State was a 122-121 loser at home against the Houston Rockets. They failed to cover the -9.5-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (243) was profitable news for OVER bettors.

Forward Draymond Green twisted his left knee in the third quarter against the Rockets. He underwent an MRI on Wednesday. The Warriors listed him Thursday as doubtful to play against the Pelicans on Friday night.

The examination revealed "no new structural damage" to the knee. Green traveled with the team on the three-game road trip. The trip includes the Warriors' first back-to-back Saturday night against Memphis and a Monday night game against Dallas.

The Warriors are more short-handed than normal off the bench. Andre Iguodala practiced Wednesday after missing the opener with a strained back. He is listed as "day-to-day."

Shooting guard Omri Casspi sprained his left ankle in the season opener after coming in with a sore right ankle.

ALCS Game 6: Justin Verlander on Hill in Must Win Against Yankees

Yankees Look to Advance to World Series Against Justin Verlander

The Houston Astros will turn to Justin Verlander on Friday when they take on the New York Yankees at Minute Maid Park. The Astros are in a must win situation against the ALCS. Fox Sports 1 will televise the game. First pitch is scheduled for 8:08 pm EST.

For the second consecutive round the Yankees can eliminate the favorite on the road. Their pitching has been better, their hitting has been more timely, and the Yankees have the Astros backed into a corner. The momentum is on the Yankees side, and Justin Verlander is trying to stop it.

Oddsmakers opened the Astros as -125-moneyline favorites versus the Yankees, while the game's total opened at 7.5. The total has held steady, but the moneyline now has Houston as a -145-favorite.

Yankees Turn to Severino to Close out the Astros

Right hander Luis Severino will take the mound for the Yankees to start this game. Severino is 15-6 this season with a 3.12 ERA.

Severino takes the hill with the Yankees one victory away from their first AL pennant since 2009. He lasted four innings and allowed one run opposite of Verlander in Game 2. Severino left early after taking a sharply hit ground ball off his left wrist that same inning.

Severino was upset at Yankees manager Joe Girardi. He didn't like him taking him out despite being able to continue. He will get a chance tonight to pitch well, and deeper into the game.

New York held off three elimination games against the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS. They won the finale on the road at Progressive Field. Keuchel and Verlander had brilliant starts for the Astros to open the ALCS. The Yankees fought back once the series shifted to the Bronx.

Justin Verlander Needs to Pitch Well Again

Verlander delivered a complete-game gem in Game 2 last Saturday. He allowed one run on five hits. He had one walk with 13 strikeouts in a tense 2-1 victory. Now with its offense struggling to score, Houston needs Verlander to be great once more.

After pacing the majors in runs, with 896, batting average at .282, on-base percentage at .346, and slugging percentage at .478), the offense has taken a hiatus.  They also ranked second to the Yankees in home runs with 238 during the regular season. The Astros have had  just nine runs and one homer this series with a awful slash line of .147/.234/.213.

The bullpen drew fire after blowing a four-run lead with nine outs left in Game 4. The team was on the brink of a 3-1 series lead with Dallas Keuchel up next in the rotation.

Yankees Use Same Lineup, Astros insert Gattis

Houston manager A.J. Hinch decided to return "El Oso Blanco", Evan Gattis, to the lineup. He replaces Carlos Beltran who is 1 for 12 with four strikeouts in the series.
