Thunder Hosts the Blazers on NBA TV

Thunder and Blazers are Banged Up

The Portland Trail Blazers and the Oklahoma City Thunder will meet at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Tuesday. The Northwest division rivals will tip-off a few minutes after 8 pm EST. The game will be telecast live on NBA TV.

Oddsmakers opened the Thunder as -8.5-point favorites versus the Trail Blazers, while the game's total opened at 204.5.

The Thunder return home in the middle of a stretch of five road games in six. The Blazers kick off a four game road trip. The Thunder and Trail Blazers are part of a close-knit bunch at the bottom of the Western Conference playoff race.

Oklahoma City is a half-game ahead of Portland and Denver. New Orleans 1-1/2  games back.

Both Teams will be without key players tonight.

Blazers' point guard Damian Lillard has missed six of the last eight games. He is listed as out for the game with a right calf strain. Lillard first was out with a strained right hamstring. He returned for a loss at Cleveland on Jan. 2 and suffered the calf injury. Lillard is averaging 24.9 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds.

The Thunder are expected to be without defensive stalwart Andre Roberson. This is the fourth consecutive game he will miss with left patellar tendinitis. He figures to miss at least two more games before his return.

Thunder Defense May Suffer

Oklahoma City was a 114-100 loser in its last match on the road against the Phoenix Suns. They failed to cover the -8-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 214 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

The Thunder defense has been among the league's best this season. Mainly because of Roberson's work on the perimeter and against pick-and-rolls. With Roberson on the floor, the Thunder have averaged 12 fewer points per 100 possessions than when he's not.

Oklahoma City has handled the loss well.  they have gone 2-1 on the recent road trip without Roberson.

Blazers Look to Overcome without Lillard Against Thunder

Portland was a 111-110 winner in its last match at home against the San Antonio Spurs. They earned a push of the -1-point spread as favorites, while the total score of 221 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.

Portland has been able to play well with their star our.  They are 4-2 without Lillard during this recent stretch.

Shabazz Napier will start in Lillard's place. During his recent five starts, Lillard is averaging 18.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

Dawgs and BAMA Meet for College Football Playoff Championship

Is the Passing of the Torch at Hand in College Football Playoff Championship?

The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Georgia Bulldogs will meet in the College Football Playoff Championship Game on Monday. The Southeastern Conference foes meet at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Kickoff is set for 8:15 pm EST on ESPN.

Oddsmakers opened the Crimson Tide as -4-point favorites versus the Bulldogs, while the game's total opened at 47. The line is back to -4 now after getting up to 5.5 earlier last week, then last night went to Alabama -3.5. The total is down to 45.5 at the moment.

The SEC is about to take it's ninth national title in the past 12 seasons as the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs meet Monday night. Talk of the SEC being down was way overrated and tonight in Atlanta, Georgia the Conference can shine in prime time.

Alabama is playing in its third straight College Football Playoff championship game. The Tide is seeking its fifth national title in nine years under coach Nick Saban. Georgia has went out and hire former Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. He has Georgia in the title game in only his second season.

This is Georgia's first national title shot since losing the 1983 Sugar Bowl to Dan Marino and the Pitt Panthers. They have not won a National Championship since 1980 with NCAA, and UGA legend, Herschel Walker leading the way.

Both Teams Looked Impressive in Semi-final Wins

The Crimson Tide proved they belonged with a 24-6 victory over defending national champ Clemson at the Sugar Bowl. It was a rematch of last year's title game.

Georgia assured that one SEC team would be playing for the title earlier in the day. They beat Oklahoma 54-48 in double-overtime at the Rose Bowl. Sony Michel's touchdown run ensured the win and made the game an "Instant Classic". The Bulldogs rallied from a 31-14 deficit in the second quarter.

Alabama and Georgia are in different divisions of the 14-team SEC. They have played just four times in Saban's 11 years in Tuscaloosa. Bama is 3-1 in those games.

The most painful for Georgia was the 2012 SEC Championship Game. A late drive fess just short in a 32-28 loss. Alabama went on the crush the overrated Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

College Football Playoff Will Feature Strength Versus Strength

Georgia running backs Michel and Nick Chubb combined for 326 yards rushing and five touchdowns against Oklahoma. Michel also scored on a pass from freshman quarterback Jake Fromm.

Georgia's defense that gave up 531 yards to the Sooners in the national semifinal. That number doesn't tell the whole story. The real story is that Georgia's defense won that game by generating five straight stops to start the second half.

Georgia needs to find just enough stops against the Tide to get it done. It starts with Julien Rochester, Trenton Thompson, Roquan Smith, Lorenzo Carter. They make up a very fast and physical defensive front seven.

This is by-far Saban's best rushing offense at Alabama. They are averaging 255.8-yards per game. That's second to Georgia in the SEC by an average of 12 yards per game.

There are no 1,000-yard rushers at Alabama but five players have run for at least 276 yards. In fact, Hurts has the most carries. Look for a series of designed runs from Hurts. He has 28 percent of all Alabama rushes since he walked onto the field for the Tide.

NFL Wildcard Sunday: NFC South Rivals Saints and Panthers Square Off

Panthers-Saints in NFL Wildcard Showdown

They finished with the same record in the NFC South. On Sunday, they’ll meet again to decide who moves on to the Divisional Round. The New Orleans Saints host the Carolina Panthers. Kickoff from the Superdome is at 4:40 PM ET on FOX.

The Saints are 6.5-point home favorites, up from –6 at the open. The total is at 47.5 after opening at 48.5.

NFL Wildcard Sunday: Jaguars Big Faves Over Bills

NFL Wildcard Sunday Has Two Cinderella's in AFC Matchup

The Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars will battle on NFL Wildcard Sunday at EverBank Field. This AFC Wildcard matchup will kickoff at 1 pm EST on CBS.

Oddsmakers opened the Jaguars as -6.5-point favorites versus the Bills, while the game's total opened at 41. The Jags are now 8-point favorites and the total is down to 40.

Their is definitely going to be a potential Cinderella Story coming out of today's AFC Wildcard matchup. Will the winner become a fan favorite throughout the playoffs?

Does that matter in this Era of bad NFL Football and parity throughout the league where every team virtually has a shot to make the playoffs every year? The Quality of football played in the NFL today is awful and a shadow of what it was just a few years ago.

The Jaguars won their first-ever AFC South title. They are in the playoffs for the first time since 2007. The team will host their first playoff game since 1999. Jacksonville was an NFL-worst 17-63 over the previous five seasons.

The Bills snapped a playoff drought that dated back to 1999. They are the final wild-card team in the AFC. Buffalo qualified with a win over Miami in the regular-season finale.

Do Jaguars Have Extra Motivation on NFL Wildcard Sunday?

 

Jaguars first-year coach Doug Marrone coached the Bills in 2013-14. He opted out of his contract and walked away with a $4 million buyout when Buffalo changed ownership. Will this motivate the Jaguars?

Marrone was hired by former Jaguars coach Gus Bradley to be the offensive line coach. Marrone served as the interim coach for two games after Bradley was fired and was promoted to head coach last January. There are only six players on the roster that played under Marrone.

The two teams also completed a trade prior to the NFL trade deadline. The Bills sent defensive tackle Marcell Dareus to the Jags for a 2018 fifth-round draft pick. The Jaguars had the worst run defense in the NFL when they made the move and ended up finishing 21st.

Bills Don't Matchup Well in NFL Wildcard Round

The Bills don't seem to match up well with the Jags if you look at the stats. They rank 30th in sacks allowed and are 29th in total offense.

The Jaguars defense ranks first in the NFL in yards-per-play, pass defense and interceptions. They are ranked second in total defense, sacks and scoring defense.

They could be in line for another dominant outing. If Bills star running back LeSean McCoy can't play after injuring his ankle Sunday it could spell doom for the Bills. McCoy carried the ball 287 times for 1,138 yards with six touchdowns this season. He has a team-high 59 catches for 448 yards and two scores.

Tyrod Taylor is the team's second-leading rusher with 427 yards and four touchdowns. Mike Tolbert would likely fill in for McCoy and has 247 yards rushing this season. He is a pdeliberate runner compared to the quickness of McCoy. Marcus Murphy made his season debut on Sunda. He rushed for 41 yards. He has eight career carries in the NFL.

McCoy did not practice Wednesday. McCoy's absence would put a lot of pressure on Taylor and the Bills' 31st ranked passing offense.

Buffalo ranks 30th in stopping the run this season. That should give the Jags offense hope after two consecutive losses to end the regular season. The Jaguars lead the NFL in rushing offense and are fifth in scoring.

Point differential is what separates the teams. The Jaguars are plus-149. That's second best in the AFC behind New England. Buffalo is minus-57. There are nine teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs with a better number.
