Northwestern Opens Up NCAA Tourney Against Vandy

NCAA Tournament Northwestern

Northwestern 1st Trip is Against Gritty Vandy Team

The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Northwestern Wildcats meet in what should be a quality first-round matchup on Thursday when they battle at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The Wildcats finally broke through and earned their first-ever March Madness bid.

The rise from the Big Ten cellar to a contender is not a fluke for this Northwestern team. The Wildcats used great defense and timely offense to finish with a winning record in league play for the first time since 1968. They capped it off by advancing to the Big Ten tournament semifinal round.

Oddsmakers opened the Commodores as -4-point favorites versus the Wildcats, while the game's total opened at 131. Vanderbilt is now a 2-point favorite and the total is down to 130.

In their last action, Northwestern was a 76-48 loser in the Big-10 semifinals against the Wisconsin Badgers. They failed to cover the +4.5-point spread as underdogs. Northwestern has all the necessary tools to make a Cinderella run and disrupt more than a few brackets this postseason. It all starts with point guard Bryant McIntosh. He leads the team in both points, 14.4 ppg, and assists with 5.3 per game. McIntosh has scored 20-plus points 10 times this season. He has also dished out six-plus assists 12 times.

Vanderbilt was a 76-62 loser in SEC Tournament against the Arkansas Razorbacks. They failed to cover the -4-point spread as favorites. A brutal regular-season schedule and a strong finish put Vanderbilt into the tournament. The Commodores played the toughest non-conference schedule in the country. Vandy also won seven of their last nine down the stretch to lock up a second straight NCAA at-large bid.

Princeton and Notre Dame Kick off March Madness at 12:15 Today

March Madness

Irish Looking for 3rd Straight Elite Eight

The Princeton Tigers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish open the Round of 64 when March Madness kicks off on Thursday when they meet at Keybank Center. Most people don't cosider the "First Four" games as part of the real tournament. They are just fodder to appease schools that were possibly left out of the NCAA Tournament.

Notre Dame has made its mark in March Madness as the only team to reach the Elite Eight round of the past two NCAA Tournaments. To be considered with the elite the Fighting Irish know they need to carry that success into a Final Four appearance.

Oddsmakers opened the Fighting Irish as -7-point favorites versus the Tigers, while the game's total opened at 132.5. The line is now Notre Dame as a 6.5-point favorite while the total has climbed to 135.

Notre Dame was a 75-69 loser in its last matchup in the ACC Championhip game against the Duke Blue Devils. They failed to cover the +4.5-point spread as underdogs. Bonzie Colson is Notre Dame's leading scorer at 17.5 ppg. He also is their leading rebounder at 10.2 rpg. The 6-foot-5 junior has 19 double-doubles this season. Senior forward VJ Beachem is scoring 15 points per game. Junior point guard Matt Farrell averages 14.2 points and 5.5 rebounds.

Princeton was a 71-59 winner in its last match at home against Yale Bulldogs in the Ivy League Tournament. They covered the -7-point spread as favorites. Princeton enters the NCAA Tournament on a hot streak. They have not lost since December. The Tigers' 19-game winning streak includes a 16-0 record against Ivy League schools. This includes two wins in the league's first championship tournament.

Providence-USC Square off in First Four

NCAA Tournament First Four

Both Teams Could Cause Havoc in Tourney

Wednesday’s First Four matchup in Dayton between the Providence Friars and the USC Trojans might be one of the most competitive games in the entire NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The winner will advance as the No. 11 seed in the East Region. Tip-off is at 9:10 ET on truTV.

Oddsmakers have the Trojans set as 2-point favorites in this First Four matchup. The total is sitting at 142.

Bet on March Madness at Bovada and get a free 100% bonus.

The Friars (20-12 SU and ATS) come out of the Big East as one of the most profitable teams in college basketball. They’re stout on defense and deliberate on offense, which masks some of their problems getting the ball in the hoop. Providence ranks No. 285 out of the 351 Division I teams in field-goal attempts and No. 248 in scoring at 70.3 points per game.

USC (24-9 SU, 16-16 ATS) was in the AP rankings over the holidays, but barely squeaked into March Madness after a late-season surge. The Trojans are more proficient on offense than Providence, ranking No. 56 overall at 78.7 points per game; however, USC also played a softer schedule in the Pac-12, and their perimeter defense is in question. The top player on the Friars, junior guard Jalen Linsdey, is 46.1% from downtown this year on 6.2 attempts per 40 minutes.

Clippers Try to Slow Down Bucks in LA

Betting on LA Clipper Basketball

Bucks Clinging to 8th Place in East by 1/2 Game

The Milwaukee Bucks have been playing very well. They’re trying to secure a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and have won their last six games in the process. On Wednesday, they’ll take on the Clippers at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Tip-off is at 10:30 PM ET.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a 50% bonus.

Everyone thought the Bucks were in trouble when power forward Jabari Parker went down with a knee injury. But guard Khris Middleton has been picking up some slack, improving since returning from a lingering hamstring problem. Middleton is putting up over 14 points a game with about four rebounds and four assists, giving the Bucks another option outside of star small forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Clippers are aiming for home-court advantage in the playoffs, as they jockey for position with Utah for the fourth spot. Guard Chris Paul is starting to round into form after returning from a thumb injury, and power forward Blake Griffin continues to be an all-round force for the Clippers.

Los Angeles is 8-2 SU and 5-5 ATS in their last 10 meetings with the Bucks. But the Bucks managed to beat the Clippers 112-101 at home on March 3. Antetokounmpo put up 24 points and eight assists, while Greg Monroe added 14 off the bench. The Clippers’ top contributors were Paul and Griffin, who put up 21 points each. Griffin also had nine boards and eight assists.

NBA Tuesday Preview & Free Pick- Detroit at Cleveland

Cleveland Cavs Basketall

Back End of Home and Home Series

The Detroit Pistons head to Quicken Loans Arena Tuesday night on the backend of a home-and-home series against the bitter rival Cleveland Cavaliers. Game time for this Central Division tilt on NBA TV has been set for 7 p.m. BetAnySports opened the Cavaliers as 8.5-point home favorites with the total set at 213.5. That line has now moved to have the Cavs as 7.5-point favorite and the total has jumped to 215.

The Pistons have gone 4-1, both straight-up and against the spread, in their last 5 games. The biggest victory in this run came in last Thursday’s 106-101 win against Cleveland as 4.5-point home underdogs. They went on to beat New York 112-92 on Saturday as 6.5-point favorites at home. The total stayed UNDER in both of those contests. Total points have stayed UNDER in four of their last six games. The road has not been kind to Detroit this year at 11-21 SU with a 12-20 record ATS.

Led by Reggie Jackson and Tobias Harris, the Pistons have been playing solid ball at both ends of the court. Jackson led the way in the first game against Cleveland with 21 points and all five starters ended that game in double figures. Harris went off for 28 points against the Knicks in a game led by a Pistons’ defense that is now ranked sixth in the NBA in points allowed (102.1).

Cavaliers Lead Down to Two Games in East

Cleveland’s lead in the Eastern Conference standings is down to just two games following its 3-6 slide both SU and ATS over its last nine games. This past Sunday’s 117-112 loss to Houston dropped its overall SU record to 43-22. The Cavaliers were able to cover against the Rockets as seven-point road underdogs to move their record ATS to 30-33-2. This includes a 16-15-2 mark ATS on their home court. The total has stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing line in three of their last four games.

LeBron James and Kyrie Irving accounted for well over half of Cleveland’s points on Sunday (58). Each player is averaging at least 25 points per game on an offense that is ranked third in the league in scoring with 110.7 points a game. Despite the fact that the Cavaliers shot a solid 52.5 percent from the field against the Rockets, their defensive effort at the other end of the court still came up short. Cleveland’s points-allowed average this season stands at 106.6, which is tied for 21st in the NBA.

I am taking the Pistons and the 7.5 points at BetAnySports this Tuesday night given both team’s current form. Detroit might not pull off the SU sweep against its rivals, but it will keep things close enough to cover.
