Rangers Looking to Keep Astros in Sight

The Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers will battle on Monday when they meet at Globe Life Park. The Rangers are trying to find some consistency so they can keep the Houston Astros in sight. The Astros hold an 11-game lead over the Rangers.

What has to bother the Rangers is they have won seven of their last ten games and still are 11 games behind the Astros. This is even with the Astros having a depleted starting rotation. That rotation is about to get healthy again and that could spell real trouble for the AL West.

The Blue Jays will pin their hopes on the pitching of right hander Marco Estrada in this game. Estrada has a 4-5 record and a 4.54 ERA this season. Estrada has struggled throughout June. He has lost all three of his starts. Estrada has not pitched more than 5 2/3 innings in any of them. He has a 12.08 ERA in June. He was blasted by Tampa Bay for six runs on 2 hits in 3 1/3 innings in his last start.

The Rangers will counter Estrada with Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Right hander Bibens-Dirkx has a 3.28 ERA to go along with a 2-0 record this season. Bibens-Dirkx played a big role in the recent rotation surge for the Rangers. In his last start, gainst the Washington Nationals, he allowed a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first. That was the lone run he allowed in seven innings. He picked up his first victory as a starter.

Price and Musgrove Take the Hill on Sunday Night Baseball

US Open Set Up to be a Beast

He’s the reigning champion and the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, so it’s fitting that Dustin Johnson is the No. 1 favorite on the 2017 US Open odds list. MLB Odds: Brewers, Cardinals Tangle in Wide-Open NL Central

Brewers Look to Hold Slim Lead Over Cardinals

The National League Central division wasn’t supposed to be in play this year. But with the Chicago Cubs experiencing a World Series hangover, it’s the Milwaukee Brewers who sit atop the Central standings at 33-31, 8.53 betting units in the black. The Brew Crew visit the St. Louis Cardinals (29-32, –8.17 units) this Thursday in the finale of a four-game series, beginning at 7:15 PM ET.

Tuesday’s double-header could mess up the pitching rotations, but in theory, it will be Junior Guerra (5.36 FIP) taking the mound for Milwaukee, and Michael Wacha (3.98 FIP) responding for St. Louis. Guerra has been very fortunate this year, posting a .219 BABIP with 91.6% of base runners left stranded, but the Brewers are still just 1-4 in his five starts for a loss of 2.31 units. The Cards are 4-7 in Wacha’s 11 starts, down 4.52 units after some shaky bullpen support early in the year and some uncharacteristically poor pitching from Wacha of late.

St. Louis also has to be concerned about catcher Yadier Molina (.694 OPS). He’s missed the past three games with a stiff lower back, although Monday’s off-day might be enough to get Molina ready for this series.

Yankees and Angels Battle in Late West Coast Action

Maybin Filling Nice for Trout as Angels Toil in 2nd Place

Rangers and Houston Battle at Minute Maid Park

Rangers try to Gain Ground on Astros
