Arizona Riding 7-Game Win Streak

Game 1 of a three-game battle for first place in the NL West gets underway this Tuesday night in an 8:40 p.m. (ET) start when the Arizona Diamondbacks roll into Coors Field to tangle with the Colorado Rockies. Both teams are now at -105-moneyline betting odds to win and the total line is at 11.

Arizona is riding a seven-game winning streak into this series after sweeping the Phillies by a combined score of 15-9 in three games this past weekend. It is now just one game in back of Colorado for the lead in the NL West at 44-26. Look for rookie German Marquez to get the start for the Rockies on Tuesday night. This will be his 11^th start of the year and he comes into this series with an ERA of 4.19 and a 1.40 WHIP. He has allowed two or less earned runs in five of his last six starts.

Red Sox and Royals Open a 3-Game Set

Royals and Red Sox Both Play Well

The fans at Royals Stadium will see the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Royals when they take their seats on Monday. Both teams have won seven of their last 10 and the Royals are now within striking distance of the leaders. Since May 10th the Royals are 21-14 to get them to only two games below .500 since they were 7-9 early in the season.

The Red Sox will give the ball to starter Hector Velazquez in this one. Right hander Velazquez is 1-1 this season with a 6.48 ERA. Velazquez will make his second career start. The Red Sox hope it goes better than his debut May 18 in Oakland. In five innings, he allowed six runs and nine hits.

Starting this game for the Royals will be Jason Hammel. The right hander has a 5.05 ERA to go along with a 3-6 record this season. Wednesday in San Francisco, Hammel allowed one run and eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. In his last three starts, Hammel is 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA and holding opponents to a .218 average (17-for-78).

Blue Jays and Rangers Tangle in Texas

Rangers Looking to Keep Astros in Sight

The Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers will battle on Monday when they meet at Globe Life Park. The Rangers are trying to find some consistency so they can keep the Houston Astros in sight. The Astros hold an 11-game lead over the Rangers.

What has to bother the Rangers is they have won seven of their last ten games and still are 11 games behind the Astros. This is even with the Astros having a depleted starting rotation. That rotation is about to get healthy again and that could spell real trouble for the AL West.

The Blue Jays will pin their hopes on the pitching of right hander Marco Estrada in this game. Estrada has a 4-5 record and a 4.54 ERA this season. Estrada has struggled throughout June. He has lost all three of his starts. Estrada has not pitched more than 5 2/3 innings in any of them. He has a 12.08 ERA in June. Price and Musgrove Take the Hill on Sunday Night Baseball

The Boston Red Sox and the Houston Astros will meet at Minute Maid Park for Sunday Night Baseball. The game will be telecast by ESPN and will start around 8:05 EST.

The Red Sox will trot David Price out to the mound in this one. Left hander Price has a 1-1 record and a 5.09 ERA this season. Price is 4-2 with a 2.68 ERA over seven career starts against Houston. He’s the reigning champion and the No. 1-ranked golfer in the world, so it’s fitting that Dustin Johnson is the No. 1 favorite on the 2017 US Open odds list. Johnson is the reigning PGA Player of the Year, but he hasn’t been quite the same since suffering a back injury in early April and withdrawing from the Masters. He returned with promise, tying for second at the Wells Fargo Championship, then finished out of the Top 10 at both the Players Championship and the Byron Nelson before missing the cut at the Memorial.

McIlory, the 2011 US Open winner, has yet to pick up a win on either the PGA or European Tours this year, but he has placed in the Top 10 in five of his seven tournaments thus far. Day came in second at the Byron Nelson; Spieth, who won the US Open during his magical 2015 campaign, has been wildly inconsistent ever since.

MLB Odds: Brewers, Cardinals Tangle in Wide-Open NL Central

Brewers Look to Hold Slim Lead Over Cardinals

The National League Central division wasn’t supposed to be in play this year. But with the Chicago Cubs experiencing a World Series hangover, it’s the Milwaukee Brewers who sit atop the Central standings at 33-31, 8.53 betting units in the black. The Brew Crew visit the St. Louis Cardinals (29-32, –8.17 units) this Thursday in the finale of a four-game series, beginning at 7:15 PM ET.

Tuesday’s double-header could mess up the pitching rotations, but in theory, it will be Junior Guerra (5.36 FIP) taking the mound for Milwaukee, and Michael Wacha (3.98 FIP) responding for St. Louis. Guerra has been very fortunate this year, posting a .219 BABIP with 91.6% of base runners left stranded, but the Brewers are still just 1-4 in his five starts for a loss of 2.31 units. The Cards are 4-7 in Wacha’s 11 starts, down 4.52 units after some shaky bullpen support early in the year and some uncharacteristically poor pitching from Wacha of late.

St. Louis also has to be concerned about catcher Yadier Molina (.694 OPS). He’s missed the past three games with a stiff lower back, although Monday’s off-day might be enough to get Molina ready for this series.
