Dodgers Host Red Hot Royals

Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers Starter McCarthy Fresh off of DL

The Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in Chavez Ravine on Saturday and they will do battle at Dodger Stadium. Maybe if traffic isn't too bad the fans can get there in time to see what should be a stellar pitching matchup. First pitch is around 7:15 EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Dodgers as -188-moneyline favorites versus the Royals, while the game's total opened at 8.5. The Dodgers are now -195-moneyline favorites. The total has inched up to 9.

Brandon McCarthy will be on the mound for the Dodgers The right hander has a 3.25 ERA to go along with a 6-3 record this season. McCarthy is fresh off the 10-day disabled list with what was described as a knee sprain. His last start, that landed him on the DL, was a disaster. He lasted only three innings and had two wild pitches in the 2nd inning.

He was brilliant in his six prior starts. McCarthy threw 34 1/3 innings while allowing 22 hits, eight walks and six runs. The 2017 season has been his best run since 2014. He went 7-5 with a 2.89 in 14 starts with the Yankees after a mid-season trade.

Royals Look to Keep Hot Streak Going

The Royals will pin their hopes on the pitching of right hander Ian Kennedy in this game. Kennedy has a 3-6 record and a 4.44 ERA this season. The veteran right-hander has been unbelievable in his last four starts. The Royals have overcome a horrendous April. They had everyone in baseball speculating that the Royals would soon be breaking up the nucleus of their 2015 World Series championship team. With a lot of big name free agents coming up this off-season, they thoughts were understandable.

KC has won 18 of their last 25 to move into contention in the AL Central at the All-Star break. The Royals have won in Kennedy's last four starts. He has gone six innings or more in three of them. His last start was a gutty 6 2/3 innings in a win over Seattle on a day when the Royals bullpen was spent. He has allowed only 14 hits and six earned runs in those four starts.

Los Angeles was a 4-1 w last night against the Royals. They won as -192 favorites, while the total score of 5 made winners ofunder bettors.

Montreal Alouettes and BC Lions in Week 3 CFL Action

Montreal Alouettes

Montreal Alouettes Look to Break BC Win Streak

The British Columbia Lions and the Montreal Alouettes will battle at Percival Molson Stadium on Thursday night. The game will be televised live by ESPN West at kickoff is at 7:30 EST.

Oddsmakers have the BC Lions as 3-point favorites. The total is holding steady at 50.

The BC Lions are looking for their fourth straight win against the Montreal Alouettes. The Lions continue their Eastern Division road trip with their second game in the East in a row. BC scored two majors in the fourth quarter to blow past the Toronto Argonauts 28-15 in Week 2. It was the Lions firs win of the 2017 season.

British Columbia was a 28-15 winner in its last match on the road against the Toronto Argonauts. They covered the +1.5-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 43 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window. It was a low scoring affair heading into the final quarter. The Argos were up 10-9, but that Lions scored 18 unanswered points to pull away late in the game.

QB Jonathon Jennings connected with Chris Rainey on the Lions’ first drive of the fourth quarter to open the offensive floodgates. DeQuin Evans forced a fumble on the Argos next possession. The Lions Ronnie Yell recovered the ball at Toronto’s 22-yard line. The turnover set up the Lions’ second major of the quarter. Jeremiah Johnson ran it in from short distance. BC was also successful on both of their two-point covert attempts. Jennings sparked the Lions’ offence in the fourth quarter for the second straight week.  He has generated 18 points in that frame alone. He has eclipsed the 300 passing yards mark leading the Lions to the victory.

Montreal Alouettes Look for a Complete Game

In their last action, Montreal was a 23-19 loser on the road against the Edmonton Eskimos. They covered the +9-point spread as underdogs. Tthe combined score (42) was profitable news for UNDER bettors. Darian Durant was contained to only 166 passing yards. He had one touchdown and an interception. Running back Tyrell Sutton rushed for 88 yards on 12 carries. Big-ticket free agent addition, Ernest Jackson, was held to only a catch for three yards. Montreal blanked Edmonton in the first quarter. They were able to build up a 10-point lead. The Eskimos slowly clawed back into the game and outscored the Als 17-6 in the second half.

Dodgers Look to Sweep DBacks in NL West Battle

Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers Look to Expand NL West Lead

National League West division rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers, are set to wrap up their three game series on Thursday. Chavez Ravine, and Dodger Stadium, will host the game scheduled to start at 10:10 EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Dodgers as -155-moneyline favorites versus the Diamondbacks, while the game's total opened at 7.5. The line has held pretty steady all day.

The Los Angeles Dodgers did not allow a run in the past two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Left-handers Clayton Kershaw and Alex Wood each threw seven shutout innings in back to back games. The first-place Dodgers beat the second-place Diamondbacks 4-3 on Tuesday and 1-0 on Wednesday. This extended their lead over Arizona to 4 1/2 games in the National League West. Another left-hander will pitch tonight for the Dodgers.

Tonights Starters Been Pitching Well

Rich Hill is on the "hill" for Los Angeles. The Dodgers left-hander has a 4.00 ERA to go along with a 5-4 record this season. Hill last pitched on Saturday against the San Diego Padres. He went seven innings and recording a career-best 11 strikeouts. He allowed only four hits in an 8-0 victory.

Left hander Robbie Ray will take the mound for the Diamondbacks to start this game. Ray is 8-4 this season with a 3.06 ERA. Ray has been one of the top strikeout pitchers in the NL this season. He has 128 strikeouts and is tied for third in the NL with Washington's Stephen Strasburg. That puts them behind Max Scherzer of the Nationals (163) and Kershaw (146).

Ray has been at his best since mid-May. He has posted a 6-1 mark with a 1.81 ERA in his past eight starts. Opponents are only hitting .173 off him in that time-frame. He has been just as good on the road. Ray owns a 4-1 mark and a 1.32 ERA.

Oddsmakers opened the Dodgers as -155-moneyline favorites versus the Diamondbacks, while the game's total opened at 7.5. The line has held pretty steady all day.

Pittsburgh still has enough time for them to make up some ground. They are going to have to play better than they did in the first half of the season.

Pittsburgh came in to this series hoping to snap a three-game losing streak. The Pirates were swept at home by the San Francisco Giants over the weekend. The Giants have the second worst record in baseball.

The Pirates were outscored 20-9 by the Giants. This wasn’t surprising considering how bad the Pirates offense has been this year.

The Pirates losing streak was extended to four games on Monday. They lost the series opener to Philadelphia 4-0.

Pittsburgh’s woes at the plate continued. The team was only able to get four hits against Phillies starter Aaron Nola. The Pirates will be hoping to turn things around on Tuesday.

For the season the Pirates have a .243 batting average. That puts them at 23rd in the league. The team has only scored 345 runs, which is 25th in the league.

The Pirates have also allowed 11 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 12 games.

While the team’s batting has been woeful, their pitching hasn’t been as bad. Pittsburgh’s pitching rotation has a 4.31 ERA, which is 14th in the league and 39 quality starts, which is 9th best in the league.

Pirates Analysis

Jameson Taillon will get the start for the Pirates. In 10 starts, Taillon has a 4-2 record with a 2.97 ERA.

The 25-year-old, who has been one of the few bright spots on the team this year, pitched 6.1 shutout innings against the Tampa Bay Rays in his last start.

Pittsburgh Trends

  • Pirates are 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games

  • Pittsburgh is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games

  • The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Pittsburgh's last 7 games

Philadelphia Team Analysis

The Phillies were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this year. Philadelphia shed a lot of big salaries in the past two seasons on aging veterans.

The Phillies have lived up to expectations and currently have the worst record in baseball.

Despite their record, the Phillies have been playing well lately and have won four of their last six games and are looking for another win after splitting their last 12 games.

Aaron Nola pitched six scoreless innings against Pittsburgh on Monday, and the bullpen kept the Pirates hitless to seal the victory.

The Phillies are hoping to win their third consecutive game today. They won four straight at the beginning of June and that is it for streaks this season.

Phillies Pitcher Analysis

Mark Leiter Jr. will get the start for the Phillies on Tuesday afternoon. Leiter has been primarily used out of the bullpen. He will be making his third start of the year this afternoon.

Leiter is 1-0 with a 4.20 ERA for the season. He pitched six shutout innings against Arizona in his first start. Leiter allowed four runs in five innings in his last start.

Philadelphia Trends

  • Phillies are 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games

  • Philadelphia is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games

  • Phillies are 7-18 SU in its last 25 games

Pick and Prediction

Philadelphia has been playing well lately but Taillon has been pitching very well, giving the Pirates the slight edge. Pittsburgh is the smart play.
