Chargers and Chiefs Meet on Asinine NFL Saturday Matchup

Kansas City Chiefs

Chargers and Chiefs Battling for AFC West Crown

The Los Angeles Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs meet at Arrowhead Stadium in a Saturday Night NFL matchup. Kick-off is set for 8:30 pm EST. NFL Network will have the coverage everywhere except the teams local markets.

The NFL is already screwing up it's product with Thursday Night Football and for years have played on Saturdays after college is finished. This is asinine. These NFL players kill themselves on the field and playing on short rest is making injuries more common. NFL is for Sunday and Monday Night.

Oddsmakers opened the Chiefs as -1-point favorites versus the Chargers, while the game's total opened at 46. The Chargers are now listed as 1-point favorites. The total is up to 47.

Chiefs Look to Find Early Season Mojo

Kansas City won its last outing, a 26-15 result against the Oakland Raiders on December 10. The Chiefs covered in that game as a -4.5-point favorite, while the 41 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

The club started 5-0 before their 2-6 stretch. That stretch has left them in a dog fight for the AFC West.

Kansas City showed signs of life last week with their victory over the Oakland Raiders.

The Chiefs will likely be without starting center Mitch Morse. He appears likely to miss his second straight game.  Morse re-aggravated a sprained left foot that kept him out of five games earlier this season.

Chargers are Flying High Coming Into Chiefs Game

In their last action, Los Angeles was a 30-13 winner at home against the Washington Redskins. They covered the -6.5-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (43) was profitable news for UNDER bettors.

The Chargers now sit on a four-game winning streak. The have been blowing out their opponents 131-53 in that stretch. Philip Rivers has three-straight 300-yard passing games. Los Angeles piled up 174 yards rushing last week against the Washington Redskins.

The Chargers started 0-4 and are 7-2 since and their offense is cranking out high numbers.

Chargers starting left tackle Russell Okung (knee) and starting defensive tackle Corey Liuget (toe) were limited participants in practice Tuesday and Wednesday. They are likely to play Saturday.

2017 New Mexico Bowl: Marshall and Colorado State In Good Matchup

New Mexico Bowl

Gildan New Mexico Bowl Features Two Teams Who Want to End Season Strong

The 2017 Gildan New Mexico Bowl will see the Marshall Thundering Herd and the Colorado State Rams square off on Saturday. The game is being played at Dreamstyle Stadium. Kick-off is set for 4:30 pm EST and ESPN will have the coverage.

New Mexico Bowl opponents Colorado State and Marshall followed similar paths on the way to Saturday's matchup. Both teams started the season strong, then had lulls.

Marshall opened the season 6-1 before a 1-4 slide to close the campaign. The Thundering Herd lost three games in that stretch by less than a touchdown. That includes decisions of two points to UTSA and one point to Southern Mississippi in the final two games.

Colorado State opened 6-2, but went 1-3 down the stretch. They had losses of three points at Wyoming on Nov. 4, and a 59-52 overtime defeat against Boise State on Nov. 11. In that game the Broncos rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in 1:41.

Colorado State salvaged the regular season and guaranteed itself a bowl bid with a 42-14 rout of San Jose State to end the regular season.

Oddsmakers opened the Rams as -5.5-point favorites versus the Thundering Herd, while the game's total opened at 58. Colorado State is now a 3.5-point favorite. The total is sitting at 59.

Rams Look to Build off San Jose Route with Win in New Mexico Bowl

Colorado State won its last outing, a 42-14 result against San Jose State Spartans on November 18. The Rams failed to cover in that game as a -32.5-point favorite, while the 56 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

Colorado State lost its past three bowl games. They were, in order, the 2014 (Las Vegas), 2015 (Arizona) and 2016 (Famous Idaho Potato). The Rams' last postseason win came in the 2013 New Mexico Bowl.

A loss Saturday would mark three straight 7-6 finishes under third-year coach Mike Bobo. Bobo received a three-year extension through 2022 on Thursday.

Colorado State plays with a style similar to that of the 2014 Marshall bunch. They finished third in the nation in scoring. The Rams average 501 yards of total offense per game. That is No. 10 in the nation. They score at a 33.8-points per game contest.

QB Nick Stevens ranks No. 15 in the nation at 289.9 passing yards per game. Wide receiver Michael Gallup accounts for 112.1 of that. Gallup was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award. That award is given to the nation's top wide receiver.

The Rams lost offensive coordinator Will Friend. He is joining new head coach Jeremy Pruitt at Tennessee. The New Mexico Bowl is also the final game for Rams defensive coordinator Marty English before he retires.

Marshall Looks to Stay Perfect in Bowl Games Since 2009 With New Mexico Bowl Win

Marshall was a 28-27 loser in their most recent outing at home against Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. They failed to cover the +0-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (55) made winners of OVER bettors.

Marshall is 5-0 in bowl games since 2009. The Thundering Herd missed the 2016 postseason. Saturday's contest marks a chance for the outgoing seniors to finish their careers at 3-0 in bowls.

All-Conference USA defensive back Malik Gant and the Marshall defense prepare to slow Colorado State's potent passing attack.

Senior quarterback Chase Litton aims to attack a Rams defense that surrendered 27.5 points per game.

2017 Las Vegas Bowl: Oregon and Boise State Meet in the Desert

2017 Las Vegas Bowl

Oregon and Boise Meet for 1st Time in a Decade

The 2017 Las Vegas Bowl pits the Oregon Ducks and the 5th-ranked Boise State Broncos against each other on Saturday. They will battle at Sam Boyd Stadium and kick-off is set for 3:30 pm EST. ABC Sports presented by ESPN will have the telecast.

Pacific Northwest powers meet for the first time in almost a decade. The Mountain West champion Broncos won each of the two previous meetings. The 19-8 victory in Boise on Sept. 3, 2009, that is most remembered for what happened after the game.

That contest marked the Oregon head-coaching debut of Chip Kelly. It received national attention when Ducks running back LeGarrette Blount punched Boise State's Byron Hunt as the teams were on the field afterward.

Blount was shut down during the game. He carried eight times for minus-5 yards in the contest. He was suspended for eight games for the incident. The Ducks came into the contest pissed off by what they thought were some cheap shots by Boise State players the year before.  A 37-32 win by the Broncos in Eugene.

Oddsmakers opened the Ducks as -5-point favorites versus the Broncos, while the game's total opened at 63. The total has held steady, but the line has been bet up to Oregon as a 7-point favorite.

Boise Looks to Keep Momentum Going in Bowl after Slow Start

Last time out for Boise State, they were a 17-14 winner as they battled Fresno State Bulldogs at home. Boise State failed to cover in the match as a -9.5-point favorite, while 31 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

Boise State started the season 2-2. They rebounded to win eight of its final nine games. Quarterback Brett Rypien, nephew of former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Mark Rypien, engineered a 90-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter to pull out the win over the Bulldogs.

This will mark the 16th consecutive bowl appearance for the Broncos. They won three straight Las Vegas Bowls from 2010-12 over Utah, Arizona State and Washington. Current head coach Bryan Harsin was the offensive coordinator for Boise State when it won the previous two meetings with Oregon. He is 4-1 as a head coach against Pac-12 opponents.

Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch leads a stout Broncos defense that ranked 20th in the FBS against the run at 125.8 yards per game. They allowed more than 200 yards on the ground just once. Vander Esch was the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year.

Boise State will be challenged by an Oregon run game that ranked No. 8 nationally with 268 yards per game. The offense accounted for 40 rushing touchdowns.

Oregon has New Head Coach for Las Vegas Bowl

Last time out for Oregon, they were a 69-10 winner as they battled Beavers at home. Oregon covered in the match as a -25.5-point favorite, while 79 combined points moved the game OVER for totals bettors.

Oregon will once again have someone making his Ducks head-coaching debut against the Broncos. Co-offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal takes over for Willie Taggart. Taggart departed for FSU two days after Oregon accepted the Las Vegas Bowl bid.

Cristobal signed a five-year contract worth $2.5 million per season. He was a popular choice with Oregon players. They even took to Twitter to lobby for his promotion.

The Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year in 2010 compiled a 27-47 in six seasons at Florida International (2007-12) in his only previous head-coaching stint. He also became the first Cuban-American head coach in Division 1-A.

The game could also serve as a coming out party for one of the early favorites in the 2018 Heisman Trophy race, Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert.

The Ducks finished the regular season 7-5. They were off to a 4-1 start before Herbert broke his collarbone in a 45-24 victory over Cal on Sept. 30. The 6-foot-6 sophomore returned for the final two games. They were win over Arizona (48-28) and Oregon State (69-10).

He wound up completing 113 of 170 passes (66.5 percent) for 1,750 yards, 13 touchdowns and three interceptions and also rushed for 166 yards and five touchdowns. Oregon was 6-1 and averaged 51.2 points in Herbert's starts. That is compared to 1-4 and 15.0 points when he was sidelined.

UCLA Hosts 25th-Ranked Cincinnati

UCLA Bruins

UCLA Looking for Marquee Win

The 25th-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats and the UCLA Bruins battle on Saturday at Pauley Pavilion. Tip-off is at 4 pm on CBS.

Oddsmakers opened the Bearcats as -2-point favorites versus the Bruins, while the game's total opened at 148.5. The total has held steady, but the line is now Cincinnati as a 4-point favorite.

These teams met nine months ago in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. UCLA won, 79-67. The Bruins forced the Bearcats out of their comfort zone with an uptempo style of play. They also avoided turnovers with only three committed all game.

UCLA also had Lonzo Ball at point guard for that contest. They also lost forward T.J. Leaf and guard Isaac Hamilton. Plus they lost key reserve big man Ike Anigbogu.

Cincinnati lost guards Kevin Johnson and Troy Caupain from last season's starting lineup.

UCLA Looking for Leadership

UCLA was a 78-69 loser in their most recent outing on the road against the Michigan Wolverines. They failed to cover the +6.5-point spread as underdogs.

The Bruins blew a 15-point second-half lead in the loss to Michigan.

Michigan forced 20 UCLA turnovers.  The Bruins need to cut that immensely against one of the most aggressive defenses in the nation at Cincinnati.

The search for its identity without prominent members of the 2016-17 roster shaped the first month of the season. The suspensions of freshmen Jalen Hill, Cody Riley and LiAngelo Ball compounded concerns.

Cincinnati Defense Could Give UCLA Big Problems

Cincinnati was a 65-50 winner in its last match at home against the Mississippi State Bulldogs. They covered the -13-point spread as favorites.

The Bearcats are playing defense like they have been taught throughout coach Mick Cronin's tenure. Cincinnati ranks No. 4 in adjusted defensive efficiency per KenPom.com metrics, and No. 32 in turnover creation.

The Bearcats climbed up the polls after a perfect start. They peaked at No. 11. Back-to-back losses to  Xavier on Dec. 2 and Florida on Dec. 9 sent Cincinnati tumbling. They rebounded nicely in the win against Mississippi State.

Cincinnati leans as heavily on its starters. The Bearcats have found a cornerstone in swingman Jacobs Evans. He comes into Saturday's game off performances of 23 points Dec. 2 vs. Xavier, and 24 points in the win over Mississippi State.

FSU and Oklahoma State Tip-Off in Orange Bowl Classic

FSU in Orange Bowl Classic

Orange Bowl Classic Features Two Underrated Teams

The Oklahoma State Cowboys and the 19th-ranked Florida State Seminoles will meet in the Orange Bowl Classic on Saturday when they battle at BB&T Center.

Florida State is one of only six unbeaten NCAA Division I programs left in the nation. Their 9-0 record will be put to the test against a good OSU Cowboys team.

Oddsmakers opened the Seminoles as -6.5-point favorites versus the Cowboys, while the game's total opened at 154. The line is now FSU -6 and the total has dropped to 152.

In their last action, Florida State was a 72-53 winner at home against the Tulane Green Wave. They covered the -13.5-point spread as favorites.

The victory extended Florida State's home winning streak to 25 games dating back to the 2015-16 season. The Seminoles are beating opponents by an average of 20 points during their fast start. They are led by guard Terance Mann, who is average 15.6 points.

The 9-0 start is also historic for the school. Only one Florida State team has had a better beginning to the season -- the 2003-04 team, which went 10-0 before losing a game.

Cowboys Look for Fresh Start in Orange Bowl Classic

Oklahoma State was a 78-66 loser in their most recent outing at home against Wichita State Shockers. They failed to cover the +5.5-point spread as underdogs.

The Cowboys are looking for a morale boost after having a tough week following the dismissal of two players. Guard Davon Dillard and freshman guard Zack Dawson were dismissed from the team Wednesday. They were kicked off the team as they "failed to meet unspecified standards set by the program."

Both players had actually already been suspended prior to the season for unknown reasons. They missed a total of six games between the two of them.

Before the Wichita State loss the Cowboys had won four straight games. Their only other defeat came against No. 16 Texas A&M on Nov. 20.

The Cowboys are led by guard Jeffrey Carroll with 12.7 points per game. Oklahoma State is also expecting to have 6-foot-11 forward Yankuba Sima eligible and playing for the first time this season. He is a transfer from St. John's.
