North Carolina and Ohio State Meet in CBS Sports Classic

CBS Sports Classic

CBS Sports Classic Hosts Top Programs Each Year

The fans at Smoothie King Center will see the Ohio State Buckeyes and the 5th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels battle on Saturday in the CBS Sports Classic. Tip-off is at 1:30 pm EST and CBS Sports will have the telecast.

This will be the 3,000th game in North Carolina program history. They are a stellar 2,216-783 all-time record.

Oddsmakers opened the Tar Heels as -6.5-point favorites versus the Buckeyes, while the game's total opened at 158. The line is UNC -7.5 and the total has dropped to 154.

Last time out for North Carolina, they were a 79-75 loser as they battled the Wofford Terriers at home. They failed to cover in the match as a -25-point favorite.

The Tar Heels were off their game offensively against Wofford. They also had trouble defensively inside. UNC coach Roy Williams will want to fix their problems in the final non-conference game on their schedule.

North Carolina hasn't dropped consecutive games since February 2016.

North Carolina had transfer Cameron Johnson playing for the first time in the Wofford game. He scored 10 points as a reserve after coming off knee surgery.

Center Micah Potter is working his way back into the rotation. He has missed time with an ankle injury. He started four games earlier this season.

In the loss to Wofford, UNC shot a season-high 38 free throws. The team made 28 of them.

UNC leads the series with Ohio State by an 11-2 record. Williams is 4-0. The Tar Heels have won the last six matchups.

Ohio State has had a Tough Schedule So Far

Ohio State was a 94-65 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Citadel Bulldogs. They failed to cover the -31.5-point spread as favorites.

Ohio State was unranked two years ago when it defeated No. 4 Kentucky in the CBS Sports Classic.

The Buckeyes will have played both teams that were in the 2017 national championship game after today. They lost in November to Gonzaga. The score was 86-59 in the PK80 Invitational in Portland, Ore.

Ohio State last played both title game combatants from the previous season in 1993-94. That year they lost to North Carolina and fell twice to Michigan.

DXL Frisco Bowl: SMU and Louisiana Tech Square Off

DXL Frisco Bowl

Inaugural DXL Frisco Bowl Could be High-Scoring

The LA Tech Bulldogs and the SMU Mustangs will meet in the Inaugural DXL Frisco Bowl on Wednesday night. Toyota Stadium, the home of Dallas FC, will host the event and kick-off will be at 8 pm EST. ESPN will have the coverage.

Oddsmakers opened the Mustangs as -5-point favorites versus the Bulldogs, while the game's total opened at 68. SMU is now a 4-point favorite. The total has climbed to 71.

SMU has had a stressful time going on lately. The Mustangs are preparing for their first bowl game since 2012. With a change of head coaches since the end of the regular season, they have had more than just the normal game week prep.

Sonny Dykes, the Mustangs new head coach, will be leading his team against his former squad. Dykes coached LaTech from 2010-12.

This will be the fifth ever meeting between the two schools. Louisiana Tech has won three times. The Bulldogs won the most recent meeting 41-10 in Dallas.

DXL Frisco Bowl is Chance to get Used to New System

SMU won its last outing, a 41-38 result against the Tulane Green Wave on November 25. SMU failed to cover in that game as a -7.5-point favorite, while the 79 combined points took the game OVER the total.

The Mustangs finished the 2017 regular season 7-5. The seven wins are the most for SMU since 2012. It is the most in a regular season since 2011.

Only nine days will have passed between Dykes' hiring and the playing of the Frisco Bowl. Dykes takes over the surging Mustangs' program from Chad Morris. He left the school to become coach at Arkansas.

That's not nearly enough time for Dykes to install his Air Raid offense. In this game he will just sit back and let some of the team's remaining assistants call the game.

SMU is one of only two teams in the country with a 3,000-yard passer, in Ben Hicks, a 1,000-yard rusher, in Xavier Jones and two 1,000 yard receivers in Courtland Sutton and Trey Quinn. Quinn leads the nation in receptions per game at 8.8.

LaTech Became Eligible for DXL Frisco Bowl in Season Finale

LA Tech was a 20-6 winner in their most recent outing at home against UTSA Roadrunners. They covered the +1-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (26) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Louisiana Tech is 6-6 and didn't become bowl eligible until the regular-season finale versus Texas-San Antonio. There were 81 teams eligible to earn a bowl game invitation. That was three more than the 78 total spots. The Bulldogs ended up one of the fortunate 6-6 teams to be extended an invitation to the postseason game.

Quarterback J'Mar Smith threw for 2,758 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. That includes five scores to Conference USA co-newcomer of the year Teddy Veal. Veal had 69 catches and 832 yards.

Defensively, defensive end Jaylon Ferguson has 26.5 career sacks. He had a team-high six sacks while senior safety Secdrick Cooper had 63 tackles and two interceptions. Cornerback Amik Robertson led the team with four interceptions to go with 58 tackles and two sacks.

Lakers Visit Streaking Rockets in Houston

Houston Rockets Basketball

Rockets Looking for 14th Straight Win

Is there any stopping the Houston Rockets (24-4 SU, 15-12-1 ATS)? They’ve won 13 straight games at 7-5-1 ATS since Chris Paul made his return to the lineup. The Rockets have another winnable game coming up Wednesday night. They clash with the Los Angeles Lakers (10-17 SU, 13-14 ATS). The game tips off at 8 PM ET on NBA-TV.

Oddsmakers have the Rockets as 15-point favorites and the total is sitting at 226.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Paul and the Rockets have already defeated Los Angeles once during this hot streak. When they met at Staples Center on December 3, Paul had 21 points and six assists.  He was one of three Houston players to top the 20-point mark. They beat the Lakers 118-95.

The Rockets easily covered the 12.5-point spread. James Harden led all scorers with 36 points, while reigning Sixth Man of the Year Eric Gordon contributed 22 points off the bench.

The Lakers were close to full strength for that game. They’ll be missing one of their key starters for the rematch. SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope isn’t allowed to leave the state of California because of a legal matter.

The 3-and-D specialist has been one of LA’s better players this year. He scored 16 points in the first game against Houston, connecting on four of his seven 3-point attempts.

Bucks Host Cavaliers Tuesday

Milwaukee Bucks

Bucks Look to Cool Red Hot Cavaliers

After some early season troubles, the Cleveland Cavaliers have gotten their act together and are rolling. They’ll be on the road Tuesday to take on the Milwaukee Bucks, one of their toughest division rivals. NBA TV will have the telecast starting at 8 pm EST.

Oddsmakers have the Cavaliers as a 1-point road favorite. The total is kicking around between 217 and 217.5.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a 50% bonus.

Including their win in Washington Sunday night, the Cavaliers have won 18 of their last 19 games. LeBron James had 20 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds That was his sixth triple-double of the season and the 61st of his career. He moved to sixth on the all-time list.

Going into Monday’s games, Cleveland is second in the East only two games behind Boston. That was unheard of the way the Cavs started the season.

The Bucks, meanwhile, lost 115-111 Saturday night in Houston. It was their third loss in a row. Giannis Antetokounmpo put up 28 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. It wasn’t enough to carry the Bucks to victory. They’re now just two games above .500.

The Cavaliers are 8-2 straight up and 5-4-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings with the Bucks. They have won five straight. Eight games have went over the posted total. Cleveland has won both meetings this season. Covering in one game and coming up with a push in the other.
