ACC Championship: Hurricanes Face CFP #1 Clemson

Dr. Pepper ACC Championship Game

Canes in ACC Championship has Chance at #1 Tigers

The Miami Hurricanes and the Clemson Tigers will meet in the Dr. Pepper ACC Championship on Saturday at Bank of America Stadium. The game is set to kickoff a few minutes after 8 pm EST. ABC has the telecast.

As hard as this is to believe, the Miami Hurricanes will make their first ACC title-game appearance since joining the league in 2003. Clemson is 11-1 and will be bidding for its third consecutive ACC title and their third straight berth in the College Football Playoff.

Oddsmakers opened the Tigers as -8-point favorites versus the Hurricanes, while the game's total opened at 48. The line now shows Clemson as 12-point favorites. The total is now at 47.

Clemson Looking for 3rd Straight CFP Appearance

Last time out for Clemson, they were a 34-10 winner as they battled South Carolina Gamecocks on the road. Clemson covered in the match as a -13.5-point favorite, while 44 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

Clemson is back in the national title hunt for a third straight year. That is due to the rapid development of junior quarterback Kelly Bryant. He was was charged with replacing two-time Heisman Trophy finalist Deshaun Watson.

The Tigers have flourished thanks to a defense that ranks with the nation's best. Clemson is sixth nationally in total defense and is in the top 10 in nine other defensive categories.

Clemson's defensive line features four players who were either first- or second-team All-ACC selections. The future NFL draft prospects are tackles Christian Wilkins and Dexter Lawrence, and ends Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant.

The last time that Clemson and Miami played the Tigers rolled to a 58-0 victory. It turned out to be the last game for Al Golden back in 2014.

Miami Coming Off Upset as the Nations 2nd-Ranked Team

Seventh-ranked Miami is coming off an upset loss at Pittsburgh. Miami was ranked #2 in the nation and the loss spoiled the Hurricanes' bid for a perfect season. A win Saturday could put Miami into the playoff in Richt's second year at the helm.

Richt spent 15 years at Georgia before replacing Al Golden at Miami prior to last season. He has overseen a rapid turnaround at his alma mater. The Hurricanes are 19-4 record in two seasons.

Richt's team has been built around an opportunistic defense. That D is led by safety Jaquan Johnson and linebackers Shaquille Quarterman and Michael Pinckney. The Hurricanes lead the nation with a plus-17 turnover margin. They also lead the country in sacks with an average of 3.55 per game.

Junior quarterback Malik Rosier has had plenty of big moments this season. Especially with late-game heroics in victories against Florida State, Georgia Tech, Syracuse and North Carolina.

Running back Travis Homer has been productive by rushing for 861 yards since taking over for the injured Mark Walton. The Hurricanes will be without standout tight end Chris Herndon, who suffered a season-ending injury against Pittsburgh.

Big Ten (Actually 14) Championship Game: Buckeyes and Badgers are Ready

Big Ten Championship Game

Badgers Getting Little Respect Outside Big Ten

The fans at Lucas Oil Stadium will enjoy the Big Ten Championship game between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Ohio State Buckeyes when they take their seats on Saturday. FOX Sports has the television coverage and kickoff is set for a few minutes after 8 pm EST.

The winner of this matchup should set themselves up nicely to reach the College Football Playoff. Few of the so-called "experts" on TV, and sports talk radio, have any respect for the Wisconsin Badgers. This should have given the team a lot of bulletin board material.

Oddsmakers opened the Buckeyes as -6.5-point favorites versus the Badgers, while the game's total opened at 53.5. The Line now has the Buckeyes as 3.5-point favorites. The total is now at 50.5.

Ohio State Facing Injury Problems

Ohio State won its last outing, a 31-20 result against the Michigan Wolverines on November 25. The Buckeyes failed to cover in that game as a -12.5-point favorite, while the 51 combined points took the game OVER the total.

The Buckeyes enter the game with uncertainty at quarterback. J.T. Barrett underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Sunday but is expected to play. There's a possibility that Ohio State might need to call on redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins. Haskins came in against Michigan during the third quarter and led Ohio State's fourth-quarter comeback.

Barrett leads the Big Ten in touchdown passes with 33. He is second in total offense. He has broken numerous school and Big Ten records. Barret tied  Art Schlichter's school record for quarterbacks with 36 wins.

Freshman J.K. Dobbins is second in the Big Ten in rushing. He is behind Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor. Dobbins has 1,190 yards on the season.

Badgers Enter the Big Ten Championship Unbeaten

In their last action, Wisconsin was a 31-0 winner on the road against Golden Gophers. They covered the -18-point spread as favorites, while the combined score (31) was profitable news for UNDER bettors.

The Badgers enter the contest against the Buckeyes with an unblemished record. They are 12-0, with a 9-0 Big Ten record. There are plenty of skeptics who dismiss Wisconsin's postseason chances. The yapmasters say the Big Ten West Division was subpar and weak.

Wisconsin's best chance to win revolves around freshman running back Jonathan Taylor. Taylor has run behind a massive offensive line for 1,806 yards this season.  He leads the Big Ten in rushing.

Wisconsin also will try to control the line of scrimmage on defense. Its defense leads the Big Ten in fewest rushing yards allowed per game at80.5. They also lead intotal yards, at 236.9 ypg, and points allowed per game. They only give up 12 a contest.

SEC Championship Game: Dawgs Look for Revenge Against Auburn

Dawgs Vs War Eagles

War Eagles Whipped the Top-Ranked Dawgs a Few Weeks Ago

The fans at Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the 2017 SEC Championship Game will see the Georgia Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers battle it out. The Dawgs and the Tigers aspirations to make the College Football Playoff hinge on this all-important matchup. Game time is set for 4 pm EST on CBS.

These two teams met three weeks ago with Auburn defeating the then-No. 1 Bulldogs 40-17. They dominated Georgia the Dawgs in basically every facet of the game. This time there is one significant difference. Instead of playing in front of a stadium packed with Auburn fans, Mercedes-Benz Stadium figures to be more Georgia friendly.

Oddsmakers opened the Tigers as -1.5-point favorites versus the Bulldogs, while the game's total opened at 51. The Dawgs are now a 2-point favorite and the total has dropped to 47.

Auburn Needs Big Days From Key Players Again

In the last meeting Auburn dominated both lines of scrimmage. That led to big days from running back Kerryon Johnson, who had 32 carries for 167 yards. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham had 214 passing yards and three scores.

Johnson has worked his way into at least the conversation for the Heisman Trophy by having rushed for 1,276 yards. He sustained a shoulder injury last week in a win over then-No. 1 Alabama. It will be a game-time decision on whether he will play.

In the past four games Johnson has rushed for 553 yards and three of his 17 touchdowns. He also has made 13 of his 21 receptions two of his scores.

Auburn's defense has been top-notch all season. The Tigers held Georgia's league-leading rushing attack to a mere 46 yards.

Dawgs Look for Better Execution

If the Bulldogs want to win this time around they will have to execute much better than they did the last time.

The Dawgs  average 265.7 yards per game.  Bulldogs running back Nick Chubb has 1,098 yards this season. Fellow senior Sony Michel has rushed for 903 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Tigers sacked UGA quarterback Jacob Fromm four times and held him to 13-of-28 passing for 184 yards in the loss a few weeks ago.

Cowboys Host Redskins in Must Win Game for Both

Dallas Cowboys

Cowboys and Skins Both Two Games out of Wild-Card

The Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys meet on Thursday Night Football at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. NFL Network and NBC will have your coverage at 8:25 pm EST.

Both teams are two games out of the last playoff spot that the Atlanta Falcons hold. The problem is that Arizona and Green Bay hold identical 5-6 records and the Lions are 6-5. Then the Seahawks are tied with the Falcons at 7-4 for the final spot. Atlanta holds the head to head tiebreaker over the 'Hawks.

Oddsmakers opened the Cowboys as -2.5-point favorites versus the Redskins, while the game's total opened at 44. The line now has the Skins' as 1.5-point favorites. The total has climbed to 47.

Cowboys Have to be More Consistent

Dallas lost its last outing, a 28-6 result against the Los Angeles Chargers on November 23. The Cowboys failed to cover in that game as a +1-point underdog, while the 34 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

Ezekiel Elliott rushed for a season-high 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the early season Cowboys win. He led the Cowboys in a 33-19 victory.  Elliott was fueling the Dallas offense in the win over Washington the way he did for much of the 2016 season. The Cowboys won the NFC East last season.

Elliott is now three contests into a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy. The Cowboys are 0-3.

Elliott's replacement is former Redskin Alfred Morris. He is averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Morris is averaging just over 12 carries per game and hasn't topped 100 yards without Elliott in the lineup.

Factors outside of Morris' ability have limited the running back. The Cowboys have found themselves playing from behind a lot of the time. Dallas' deficits can be partially attributed to the absence of linebacker Sean Lee. He left the Atlanta game early with a hamstring injury. Lee hasn't played in seen the field since.

Redskins In Same Boat as Cowboys

The Redskins were a 20-10 winner in their most recent outing at home against the New York Giants. They covered the -7-point spread as favorites, while the total score (30) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Washington has split their last four games. They were competitive in losses to the Vikings and Saints. Last week Kirk Cousins passed for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

Rookie running back Samaje Perine may be finding his stride as an NFL running back. Perine rushed for 100 yards on 24 carries in the win over the New York Giants last week. He followed up his 117-yard output on 23 attempts against the New Orleans Saints the week before.
