NFL Playoffs: Falcons Continue Quest Against Eagles

NFL PLayoffs Divisional Round

Top Seeded Eagles Host Falcons in Frigid Philly in NFL Playoffs

The Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles will meet in the NFL Playoffs on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field. This NFC Divisional Round matchup will kickoff at 4:35 pm EST and NBC will have the broadcast.

Oddsmakers opened the Falcons as -2.5-point favorites versus the Eagles, while the game's total opened at 44. The spread has dropped back to Falcons -2.5 after moving to 3 most of the week. The total has dropped to 40.5.

This will be the Eagles first playoff game in four years, and it will be a tough one. They are facing the reigning NFC Champions who are finally playing pretty good football and are healthy. That can't be said for the Eagles.

The Eagles lost quarterback Carson Wentz down the stretch but still managed to finish 13-3 and earn the No. 1 seed. Nick Foles took over for the MVP candidate after the injury. Foles was the quarterback back in 2013 when the Eagles fell to the New Orleans Saints 26-24.

The Falcons received the final playoff spot in the NFC. They promptly traveled to the West Coast and whipped the Los Angeles Rams 26-13 in the wild-card round.

Eagles Offense Can't Sputter in NFL Playoffs

Philadelphia is the first No. 1 seed to open as an underdog in the playoffs. The offense sputtered under Foles with a 19-10 win over the Oakland Raiders and a 6-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The Eagles were a 6-0 loser in their most recent outing at home against the Dallas Cowboys. They failed to cover the +3.5-point spread as underdogs, while the total score (6) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Foles was 4 of 11 for 39 yards and an interception against the Cowboys. He struggled to throw the ball downfield. Third-string quarterback Nate Sudfeld was 19 of 23 for 134 yards. The Eagles have made it crystal clear that Foles is the starter.

Falcons Look Like Contenders in the NFL Playoffs

Atlanta was a 26-13 winner in its last match on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. They covered the +6-point spread as underdogs, while the total score of 39 sent UNDER bettors to the payout window.

The Falcons finished the regular season at 10-6. They are preparing for their second road playoff game. Quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones both missed practice Tuesday but are expected to start on Saturday. Ryan missed for personal reasons and is 100% prepared and ready for the game.

Ryan was 21 of 30 for 218 yards and a touchdown in the 13-point win over the Rams. It was his first road playoff win in three starts.

Ryan led Atlanta to the Super Bowl last season that ended in a heartbreaking overtime loss to the New England Patriots.

The Falcons forced a pair of huge fumbles last week.  They turned them into 10 points. Kicker Matt Bryant also booted four field goals.

Suns Host Rockets on Friday Night

Phoenix Suns

Harden Will Miss Suns Game

The fans at Smoothie King Center will see the Portland Trail Blazers and the New Orleans Pelicans when they take their seats on Friday. This game is the nightcap on ESPN and will tip-off 10:30 pm EST.

Oddsmakers have the Rockets listed as 7-point favorites. The total is at 229.

Houston guards Chris Paul, Eric Gordon and Gerald Green have stepped up big time in the five games that James Harden has missed. Harden has a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.

Paul has acted as the leader they want him to be in the last four games. He has had games of 37, 28 and 24 points while chipping 42 assists and 29 rebounds. Paul has two double-doubles in that stretch. He was one assist short of a double-double in the other two.

Gordon has a pair of 30-point games with 14 3-pointers as well since Harden went down. He was an assist short of a double-double in a victory at Chicago on Monday. Gordon is averaging 23.2 points a game while starting in place of Harden.

Green signed a one-year deal with the Rockets two weeks ago. He is averaging 21 points in the last five games. He has made 26 3-pointers.

The Rockets have made at least 10 threes in 36 straight games, a continuing league record.

Harden is averaging 32.3 points and 9.1 assists per game. He is expected to miss several more games.

Harden will not be the only Rockets player out Friday. Nene is expected to miss his fifth straight game with a knee problem. Center Tarik Black is out with a right eye abrasion suffered against Portland.

Suns Playing Well Since Booker Returned

The Suns have been on a bit of a roll since their top scorer, Devin Booker, has returned. They have won four of their last seven.

The Suns will be well-rested. They have not played since beating Oklahoma City 114-100 on Sunday.

Booker had 26 points and TJ Warren had 23 against the Thunder. The Suns received well needed support from reserve forwards Dragan Bender and rookie Josh Jackson.

Bender set career highs with 20 points, six 3-pointers in 39 minutes. He played most of the game in place of starting forward Marquese Chriss, who suffered a right hip strain in the second quarter. Chriss has been ruled out for Friday's game.

Jackson recorded his first career double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. He also had a season-high three 3-pointers. He is averaging 14 points, 5.7 rebounds and three assists since being benched against Atlanta the week before.

The Suns made a season-high 17 3-pointers against Oklahoma City. They only committed nine turnovers.

Booker made 5 of 10 shots from downtown against Oklahoma City. He is averaging 26.9 points and 3.3 threes in seven games since returning from a left adductor strain injury.

Curry Questionable Against Bucks Friday

Milwaukee Bucks

Bucks Expect Warriors at Near Full-Strength

The Golden State Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks will meet on Friday at Bradley Center. The game will tip-off around 8 pm EST and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

Oddsmakers opened the Warriors as -4.5-point favorites versus the Bucks, while the game's total opened at 222. The total has inched up to 222.5 and a few 223's are out there.

Golden State star Seth Curry sat out Golden State's 125-106 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers Wednesday. He sprained his right ankle during the Warriors' shoot-around session earlier in the day. He will be evaluated again after today's workout.

The Warriors are opening up a five-game road trip. The trips starts with a back-to-back set in Milwaukee and Toronto. The two-time All-Star might get an extra day of rest just to be safe on the injury.

Curry had a injury similar to this and he was out 11 straight games last month. Golden State has won the five games since Curry Returned.  He averaged 35.2 points on 57 percent shooting. Curry made 33 of 62 3-point attempts before sitting out Wednesday.

Golden State was also without Klay Thompson Wednesday. It was just a scheduled off-day.

Bucks Have Great Success Against Western Conference

The Bucks are 12-5 against Western Conference teams this season. They are 4-0 against the Pacific Division. They Bucks are hoping the dominant second half of their 110-103 victory over Orlando Wednesday night kick the team into high gear.

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a team-high 26. He scored 13 in an aggressive third quarter effort.

The Bucks struggled shooting from beyond the arc, as they have all season. Milwaukee made just 4 of 19 3-point attempts. They have connected on only 26.5 percent of its shots from behind the arc over the last three games.

The Warriors have won three straight games and seven of their last eight meetings with the Bucks. Milwaukee's only victory over Golden State during that stretch was when they broke Golden State's historic 24-game winning streak to open the 2015-16 season.

Wild-Blackhawks in Upside-Down Central

Blackhawks Hockey

Blackhawks and Wild Fight from the Bottom Up

One year ago, the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild finished first and second in the Western Conference standings. Things have changed. These same two teams are at the bottom of the Central Division heading into Wednesday’s showdown at the United Center; the puck drops at 8 PM ET on NBCSN.

Oddsmakers have the Blackhawks as -125-moneyline favorites. The total is at 5.5 O-114.

It hasn’t been a total disaster for either club. The Central happens to be the dominant division in hockey right now, with zero teams posting a negative goal differential. The last-place Hawks (20-15-6) have a plus-11 differential, while the Wild (22-17-3) have scored exactly as many goals this year as they’ve given up. There’s plenty of time for both to make a playoff run during the second half of the regular season.

Good health will be imperative as always. Minnesota doesn’t have anyone on the injured list, but the Hawks are without four players, including No. 1 goaltender Corey Crawford (.929 save percentage), who’s out indefinitely with an upper-body injury. Wednesday will be the second of back-to-back games for both clubs; Devan Dubnyk (.916 SV%) is projected to start in net for the Wild opposite either Anton Forsberg (.909 SV%) or Jeff Glass (.908 SV%).
