Michigan State Hosts Purdue in Big Ten Scrap

Michigan State Athletics

Another Top 5 Showdown for Michigan State

The 3rd-ranked Purdue Boilermakers and the 4th-ranked Michigan State Spartans will battle on Saturday at Breslin Center. Tip-off is set for 4 pm EST. ESPN will have the broadcast.

Oddsmakers opened the Spartans as -2.5-point favorites versus the Boilermakers, while the game's total opened at 148. The total has held steady, but the line has crept up to Michigan State -3.

Michigan State has already been involved in two battles with top five teams this season. The Spartans will do it again Saturday afternoon in a crucial Big Ten showdown. The Spartans were ranked No. 2 and lost to then-No. 1 Duke. They were ranked No. 3 in late November and blew out then-No. 5 Notre Dame.

Michigan State Looking for 8th Straight Win

Michigan State has more big-game experience. The Boilermakers have more veteran players. The Spartans start four sophomores and a freshman. Purdue starts four seniors and a sophomore. Something is gonna give Saturday afternoon.

Michigan State was a 96-93 winner in its last match on the road against the Iowa Hawkeyes. They failed to cover the -10-point spread as favorites.

Michigan State is looking to extend its seven-game winning streak. In the win on Tuesday the Spartans got 25 points from sophomore forward Miles Bridges. Bridges is scoring at 17.7 points a clip.

Purdue Coming off First Conference Loss

Last time out for Purdue, they were a 64-63 loser as they battled the Ohio State Buckeyes at home. They failed to cover in the match as a -10-point favorite.

The Boilermakers had their bid for a perfect conference season derailed on Wednesday. The loss also snapped Purdue's school-record 19-game winning streak.

Guard Carsen Edwards scored a career-high 28 points against the Buckeyes. He leads the Boilermakers at 17.0 points per game. Purdue also has a solid frontcourt duo. 6-foot-8 Vincent Edwards pours in 15.3 points a game and adds 7.8 rebounds. 7-2 Isaac Haas is chipping in 14.7 points and 5.3 rebounds.

The Boilermakers hadn't lost since losing on back-to-back nights to Tennessee and Western Kentucky in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in November.

Kansas Hosts Baylor in Big 12 Action

Kansas Jayhawks Sports

Kansas Tied for 1st in Big 12

The Kansas Jayhawks and the Baylor Bears will battle in key Big 12 action on Saturday when they meet at Ferrell Center. Tip-off is set for 2 pm EST. CBS Will have the live broadcast.

Kansas has won 13 straight Big 12 regular -season championships. That run that includes two Final Four appearances and the 2008 national title. The Big 12 race is heading toward the homestretch, and Kansas once again has a share of first place.

Kansas has experienced how evenly matched the Big 12 is this season. They lost to seventh-place Oklahoma State last Saturday. With seven games remaining until the conference tournament all is up for grabs.

Oddsmakers opened the Jayhawks as Pickem' favorites versus the Bears, while the game's total opened at 146.5. The line has Kansas as a 1.5-point favorite. The total has crept up to 147.

Baylor Looking to Play Way into NCAA's

In their last action, Baylor was a 67-56 winner on the road against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. They covered the +2-point spread as underdogs.

Baylor has a lot at stake Saturday as Kansas. The Bears have won back-to-back games.  They are within striking distance of playing their way into the NCAA Tournament field. A road win over the Jayhawks would be a nice feather in their cap.

The main thing lacking in Baylor's favor so far is an 0-8 record against ranked opponents.

Baylor has to get in the 18-20-win range. They have to win some games against ranked teams. The opportunities will definitely be there. The Bears' remaining home schedule includes Kansas, No. 7 Texas Tech, No. 19 West Virginia and No. 17 Oklahoma.

Kansas Looks to Sweep Season Series Against Baylor

Kansas Jayhawks was a 71-64 winner in its last match at home against the TCU Horned Frogs. They failed to cover the -7.5-point spread as favorites.

Kansas has already willed itself to one victory over Baylor this season. The Bears led the Jayhawks 67-61 with 2:51 remaining. Kansas responded by finishing the game on a 9-0 run to claim a 70-67 win at Allen Fieldhouse.

Mitch Lightfoot will start again for the Jayhawks. Baylor is another team that plays bigger than advertised. Either 6-foot-8 Terry Maston or 6-9 Nuni Omot will be playing alongside 7-footer Jo Lual-Acuil. Kansas is trying to level the size advantage.

The key for Kansas this year has been a balanced, and unselfish offense. The Jayhawks are the 13th in the nation in assists per game with 17.4 per game. Five players are averaging in double-digit scoring. They are led by Devonte' Graham's 17.5 points per game.
