NCAA Final Four: Loyola-Chicago Ramblers vs. Michigan Wolverines Preview

NCAA Final Four 2018

Loyola-Chicago Ramblers vs. Michigan Wolverines Final Four Preview

Will it be the NCAA Final Four version of the movie "Hoosiers"? The 11th seeded Loyola-Chicago Ramblers will take on West Region champion, Michigan Wolverines. The South Region Champion Ramblers battle for the right to play for this year’s national championship. Michigan was the #3-seed out of the West.

Oddsmakers have the Wolverines as 5-point favorites and the total is at 130. Tip-off for this game is set for 6:09 pm EST. TBS Superstation will have the telecast.

The late game on Saturday between Villanova and Kansas is the more marquee matchup. Michigan and Loyola will battle in the early game to see if their unexpected feel-good stories will continue. The winner gets to the national championship game.

Loyola and the whole Sister Jean phenomenon have overtaken college basketball fans everywhere. This game will definitely have plenty of eyeballs watching it.

Michigan Can Make Final Four Playing all High Seeds

Michigan may become the first team to advance to the national championship game without playing a team seeded fifth or higher. The way Michigan has been playing the last couple of months proves they are no fluke.

Michigan entered the tournament as one of the hotter teams in the country. They had wins over top-10 opponents Michigan State and Purdue in the Big 10 Tournament. The Wolverines haven't slowed down a bit. They are on a 13-game winning streak. The team has proven it can win offensively and defensively.

The Wolverines have been bad on offense in three of their four tournament wins. The lone exception was a 99-point outburst in a 99-72 regional semifinal win over Texas A & M.

A buzzer-beating 3-pointer from 30-feet by Jordan Poole beat Houston in the second round. Stellar defense throughout so far and Michigan has advanced to its second Final Four in the past six years.

The Wolverines present a huge problem for the Ramblers. 6-foot-11-inch Moe Wagner is the HUGE PROBLEM. Wagner is good enough to post up yet skilled enough to step out and play from the wing. He can drain 3's as easily as he can play with his back to the hoop.

The Ramblers do not have a defender, on paper, that can hang with Wagner. Six-foot-nine-inch freshman Cameron Krutwig can match up with Wagner in the post. If Wagner takes the Loyola center outside, he may is in trouble.

Final Four Has its Cinderella

Very few had the Ramblers penciled to make it to the Final Four. If they say they did ask to see their bracket.  In reality that is what the mid-major out of the Missouri Valley Conference finds itself after a dream ride.

The Ramblers had back-to-back buzzer-beating wins over Miami and Tennessee in the first two rounds. Then a one-point win over Nevada in a regional semifinal. They then routed Kansas State 78-62.

Loyola is guard-heavy team that relies on ball movement and penetration. Loyola will have its toughest test of the season. The Michigan defense has shut opposing guards down throughout its winning streak. Michigan has the best defense left in the tournament.

The Ramblers are one of the best defensive teams as well. That is not just in the tournament but in the entire nation. They have limited teams to just 62.4 points per game. Each of Loyola’s last 10 opponents has been held to 68 or fewer points.

Where the Ramblers really excel though is on offense. They rival Villanova as the best shooting team in the Final Four. Loyola has hit 50.9 percent of its shots from the floor. They also have hit 40 percent from 3-point range.

If they don’t get you with the 3-pointer, the Ramblers’ offense is well-versed in the art of the backdoor cut and driving to the hoop.

MLB Opening Day: Rockies and DBacks Renew Rivalry

Diamondbacks MLB Opening Day

Rockies have MLB Opening Day Where 2017 Ended

The Colorado Rockies have their MLB Opening Day in 2018 right where their 2017 ended. In a rematch of the NL Wildcard Game, the Arizona Diamonbacks host the Colorado Rockies. Chase Field in Phoenix will host the game. First pitch is set to be thrown at 10:10 pm EST.

Oddsmakers have the DBacks as -107-moneyline favorites. The total is 8 Flat (-110 both sides).

Optimism is high on both teams as the 2018 season kicking off. With the Los Angeles Dodgers heavily favored to win the NL West, Colorado and Arizona could be forced down the same road as last season.

The Diamondbacks defeated the Rockies 11-8 before being swept by the NL champion Dodgers in the Division Series.

Each Team Has Superstar Firepower

Each team boasts a bona fide superstar. Arizona has Paul Goldschmidt who had numbers of a .297 batting average, 36 home runs, 120 RBIs in 2017. Colorado has third baseman Nolan Arenado and his line of .309, 37, 130, and a Gold Glove winner for the fifth straight season.

These players finished third and fourth, respectively, in NL MVP voting last year.

They will be expected to carry their clubs again. Throw in Rockies center fielder Charlie Blackmon and the Rockies can get things going quickly. Blackmon was the 2017 NL batting champion who hit at .331.

The D-backs will enter the season without right fielder J.D. Martinez. He became one of the most historically impactful trade-deadline acquisitions of all time last season. He had 29 homers and 65 RBIs in 62 games with Arizona last year.

MLB Opening Day Pitchers Had Quality Springs

Colorado's Jon Gray makes his second straight Opening Day start. Patrick Corbin will go for the Diamondbacks as ace Zack Greinke is dealing with a groin injury.

Gray made only 20 starts in 2017 because of a foot injury. He had his stuff as he struck out 112 in 110 1/3 innings That increased his career totals to 337 in 319 frames. The 26-year-old kid from Oklahoma finished spring training strong. He allowed five hits and fanned 11 in 9 1/3 scoreless innings over his past two outings.

Gray is 2-2 with a 4.75 ERA in five career starts versus Arizona. He was 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two turns at Chase Field with both coming last season.

Corbin yielded seven runs (six earned) in 11 innings in the spring. He walked five and struck out eight. He was 14-13 with a 4.03 ERA last season. Corbin was 2-1 with a 4.03 in four starts against the Rockies last year. He is 7-3 with a 4.76 ERA against them in 17 career appearances.

MLB Opening Day: Aces on the Hill as Mariners Host Indians

MLB Opening Day in Seattle

King Felix Looks to Rebound on MLB Opening Day

MLB Opening Day is here for anxious Americans. The Seattle Mariners and the Cleveland Indians will wrap up the action from America's Pastime with the late game.  First pitch is set for 10:00 pm EST. ESPN will have the coverage.

Oddsmakers have the Indians as -170-favorites on the moneyline. The total is sitting at 7Under -125.

Corey Kluber edged Felix Hernandez for the American League's Cy Young Award in 2014. That should have been the start of some epic battles for the AL Cy Young award. Everyone thought that this could be like Pedro Martinez and Greg Maddux and Randy Johnson going at it year after year in the 90's.

That hasn't happened. The careers of the two 31-year-old hurlers have taken vastly different paths. That was clearly evident last year. Kluber earned his second Cy Young while Hernandez battled injuries and pitched fewer than 100 innings.

There was little doubt Kluber would start opening day for the Indians. After going 18-4 last year with a major league-leading 2.25 ERA he earned that job with little argument.

That wasn't the case for Mariners manager Scott Servais. James Paxton turned into the team's No. 1 starter last season in Hernandez's absence. It didn't help that King Felix was limited to five innings this spring either. He was hit in his right forearm by a line drive in his first start.

This will be Hernandez's 11th Opening Day start and his 10th straight. The only pitchers in history with streaks longer than 10 are Jack Morris (14), Robin Roberts (12) and Tom Seaver (12).

Kluber Primed for Another Great Season Again in 2018

Hernandez will face a tough task against an Indians team that won 102 games last season. Who can forget their  league-record 22-game winning streak. They won the AL Central for the second consecutive season. Cleveland fell just short of winning the 2016 World Series but had an early  exit last year.

Hernandez, who won the AL Cy Young in 2010, is 7-6 with a 2.95 ERA in 16 career starts against the Indians. He's got a 6-2 record on Opening Day.

Kluber is 3-1 with a 1.50 ERA in four career starts against the Mariners, who went 78-84 last season. Kluber is primed for another strong season. He went 4-0 with a 2.29 ERA in five spring starts while striking out 25 over 19 innings.

Cleveland 1B Yonder Alonso replaces the departed Carlos Santana. He belted a career-high 28 homers with Oakland and Seattle in 2017.

AmericasBookie.com Sportsbook Review

Our staff and several of our visitors have been using their sports betting service for several years without any incident.  To keep our opinion unbiased, we sent someone that has never used their service before to evaluate AmericasBookie.com. Here is what they had to say about them:

At first glance, I loved how their website is designed and how easy it is to navigate thru it.  Making my deposit via Bitcoin was fast and as soon as they received the funds, I also received my bonus. Placing a bet on their mobile betting interface was a breeze.  In fact, it was so easy that my wife who knows nothing about gambling could do it.

The betting lines they offer are for the most part competitive and their Live Betting odds are even better. I tried my hand in their casino in-between games and thought it was adequate but not outstanding.

Overall, I like their betting platform and when I requested my first payout their customer service department was very helpful.

Jazz Hosts Injury Riddled Celtics

Utah Jazz

Celtics Play Hungry Jazz all Banged Up

The fans at Vivint Smart Home Arena will the Boston Celtics and the Utah Jazz when they take their seats on Wednesday. ESPN will televise the content after the 2018 McDonald's Boys High School All-American Game. Tip-off is set for 9:30 pm EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Jazz as -6.5-point favorites versus the Celtics, while the game's total opened at 195.5. The Jazz are now 8.5-point favorites while the total has dropped to 194.5.

Injuries to main components to their lineup are piling up for Boston. The injury bug is throwing a monkey wrench in the Celtics plans. They have to make up ground against Toronto in the race for the Eastern Conference's top seed.

Since the start of March the Celtics have lost Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart and Daniel Theis to serious injuries. Theis is done for the year. Irving and Smart won't be back in the lineup until the playoffs.

Marcus Morris could also be sidelined against Utah. He sprained his ankle in Monday's 102-94 win over Phoenix. It is a blow to the team's offense after Morris posted three straight 20-point games. He was a key cog during Boston's current four-game winning streak.

Jayson Tatum's recent play has become even more invaluable. The rookie has developed as a consistent offensive threat. It was needed with the absence of so many regulars. Tatum is averaging 16.2 points on 50 percent shooting and 6.1 rebounds in March.

Tatum has had three 20-point outings in the last five games. He has shot 55 percent or better from the floor four times in that span.

Jazz Try to Hang on in Jam-Packed Western Conference

The Jazz are getting some solid production out of their own rookie, Donovan Mitchell. Utah is trying to position itself for a strong finish. This is in part because Mitchell continues to devolvop into a go-to scorer. They had counted on this when they lost Gordon Hayward to Boston in free-agency.

Mitchell is averaging 23.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists in March. His ability to generate offense late in games has helped Utah post 11 wins in its last 13 games.

The Jazz is a slow starting team and has to correct that down the stretch. The Jazz averaged just 19.5 points in the first quarter in each of their last two games. It led to them digging out of holes against both Golden State and San Antonio.

Utah succeeded in pulling away from the Warriors in the 2nd half of a 110-91 win on Sunday. The slow start cost them in a 124-120 overtime loss to the Spurs on Friday.

Utah is looking to complete the season sweep over Boston. The Jazz beat the Celtics 107-95 on December 15th.

Ricky Rubio led the way for Utah with 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting. He also had seven rebounds and five assists. The Jazz shot 52 percent from 3-point range in the win.

Pelicans Host the Blazers Tuesday Night

New Orleans Pelicans Basketball

Pelicans behind the Trail Blazers by 2.5 Games

After the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors, the Western Conference playoff race is a tight one. Two teams involved in that race, the Portland Trail Blazers and the New Orleans Pelicans, will meet in New Orleans on Tuesday. Tip-off is at 8 PM ET.

Oddsmakers have the Trail Blazers as 1-point favorites. The total is at 222.

Bet on basketball at Bovada and get a 50% bonus.

The Trail Blazers went into Oklahoma City and beat the Thunder 108-105 on Sunday. It was a key matchup of two teams battling for the No. 3 seed in the West. Going into that game the Trail Blazers had lost two in a row. That broke a 13-game winning streak.

Portland is now just 2.5 games up on New Orleans, so this game is important for playoff positioning.

The Pelicans are 43-31 following a 114-91 loss in Houston on Saturday. New Orleans was down by 27 points at halftime and couldn’t recover. PF Anthony Davis led the way with 25 points and eight rebounds for the Pelicans. New Orleans had won four in a row going into that game.

The Pelicans are 6-4 SU and ATS in their 10 meetings with the Trail Blazers. Portland has lost both meetings with New Orleans this season. Six of the meetings have gone over the posted total.
