Rockets Look to Close Season Strong Against Lakers

The Houston Rockets wrap up their regular season with two West Coast road games starting with Tuesday’s clash against the Los Angeles Lakers in a 10:30 p.m. start on TNT from the Staples Center.

BetAnySports has opened the Rockets as eight-point road favorites with the total set at 218. The line has held steady, but the total has dropped to 2017.

The Rockets roll into the postseason with the best record in basketball at 64-16. They are coming off a 108-102 loss to Oklahoma City on Saturday as five-point home favorites. This was second straight-up loss in four games coming off an 11-game winning streak.

They have failed to cover against the spread in four of their last five games. The total has stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing line in five of Houston’s last six outings.

James Harden looks ready to lead his team to a long postseason run. He is in form and led the team with a game-high 26 points against the Thunder. Harden connected on seven of his 16 shots from the field and Chris Paul added 17 points in the losing cause.

The Rockets are averaging 112.8 points per game as the NBA’s second-highest scoring team. They have failed to reach that mark in four of their last five contests.

Lakers Looking for Continued Improvement Against Rockets

Los Angeles continues to ride out the string of the NBA season. They have one SU victory over their last six games as part of a 3-10 record in its last 13 contests. The Lakers are 1-4 both SU and ATS in their last five home games.

This includes Sunday’s 112-97 loss to Utah as 9.5-point home underdogs. The total went OVER 208 points in that game on BetAnySports’ closing line and it has gone OVER in four of their last six games.

The Lakers’ depleted lineup has Kyle Kuzma and Lonzo Ball listed as day-to-day for Tuesday. Both players sat out Sunday’s game. In their absence, Josh Hart scored a team-high 25 points and Tyler Ennis added 22 points off the bench.

Los Angeles is averaging 108.1 PPG. That is ranked 10^th in the NBA. At the other end of the court, it falls into a tie for 25^th in the league in points allowed (109.8).

Orioles Host the Jays on Monday Night

Orioles and Jays Just Try to Keep up in AL East

The fans at Camden Yards will see the Toronto Blue Jays and the Baltimore Orioles when they take their seats on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm EST. Sportsnet (Toronto), MASN2 (Baltimore) will carry the game.

Oddsmakers opened the Orioles as -133-moneyline favorites versus the Blue Jays, while the game's total opened at 8.5. The line now is Baltimore as -113-moneyline favorites. The total is not at 7.5 Over -115.

The Blue Jays will pin their hopes on the pitching of left hander J.A. Happ in this game. Happ has a 1-1 record and a 5.40 ERA this season. He struck out nine batters in his last outing against the Chicago White Sox. Happ allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Happ is 4-6 with a 3.45 ERA in 15 appearances against Baltimore. 14 of those appearances have been starts. He also has gone 1-2 with a 4.05 ERA at Camden Yards.

The Orioles will counter Happ with Dylan Bundy. Right hander Bundy has a 0.69 ERA to go along with a 0-0 record this season. He is the Orioles' most consistent starter. He is off to a strong start, allowing one run in 13 innings. Bundy has struck out 15 and walked three batters this season.

Bundy has been dominant against Toronto. He has gone 3-0 with a 0.76 ERA in seven appearances, including three starts.

Rugged AL East Will Require Explosive Offenses

Both teams are playing well lately. The Orioles won three of four games against the  New York Yankees in New York. The Orioles weekend included two extra inning wins. The Blue Jays took two of three against the Texas Rangers.

The Blue Jays' offense has gotten a boost from Yangervis Solarte. The kid had another two hits Sunday and is batting .308.

The Orioles hope to get Chris Davis back in the lineup. He missed the series finale against the Yankees with an illness. Davis has struggled so far this season and is batting .100.

Mark Trumbo is also progressing after starting the season on the DL with a quad strain. He will play first base at extended spring training Monday and hopes to be back soon.

Baltimore LF Trey Mancini has answered a slow start by going 6-for-19 in his last four games.

Baltimore has won 12 of the 19 meetings between the teams in 2017.

Blue Jays DH Kendrys Morales, who belted a three-run homer on Sunday, went deep four times versus the Orioles last season.

Heat Hosts Thunder With Plenty at Stake

Thunder Can Clinch Playoff Spot With a Win

The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat will meet on Monday at American Airlines Arena. There is plenty at stake for both teams tonight. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm EST. The game can be seen in regional coverage.

Oddsmakers opened the Thunder as 0-point favorites versus the Heat, while the game's total opened at 210.5. The Thunder are now 4-point favorites and the total is sitting at 214.

 

The Thunder can clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight over the Heat. The jam-packed West is going to be a free-for-all over the next week.  Only three games separates 3rd thru 9th seed. In a league where only the top 8 makes the playoffs, that is a problem for one team.

The Thunder can finish anywhere between fourth or eighth in the wild Western Conference. Failing to make the playoffs is also a reality if the team tanks.

The Heat are already in the playoffs. They are coming off an awful 122-98 loss to the New York Knicks on Friday. Six days before that they had a loss to the Brooklyn Nets in overtime. The Heat are looking to change momentum going into the postseason.

They have two tough games to close out the regular season. Tonight against the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Toronto Raptors this week. The only saving grace may be that the Raptors rest their starters as they have clinched home court throughout.

Miami's opening-round Eastern Conference playoff opponent will be one of these teams. The Toronto Raptors, the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers or the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Thunder Helped Themselves Against Rockets; Heat Need to Close Strong

The Thunder prevailed 108-102 over the host Houston Rockets over the weekend. The Rockets have the best record in the NBA and have clinched home-court advantage.  They have not been lying down and been playing for keeps. The Thunder win goes a long way in helping them clinch.

Russell Westbrook and Paul George scored 24 points each. Houston's 20-game home win streak was snapped with the loss.

A desperate Thunder team will be a major challenge for the Heat. They have muddled through the 2nd half of the season with a 14-15 record. Since Feb. 1 they are playing below-.500 basketball.

The Heat are 2-1 against the Celtics this season. They are 1-2 against the Cavaliers, 2-2 against the 76ers and 1-1 against the Raptors. Miami players feel like they will have a good chance against any of those teams.

They have to close the regular season in a strong fashion.

Heat Have Their Hands Full With Thunder Scorers

The Heat will hope to slow down Westbrook just a little bit. His scoring is down by around six points per game from last season. He still has phenomenal numbers when compared with almost every other player in the league. He is averaging 25.6 points and 9.8 rebounds. He is also leading the league with 10.1 assists per game.

Paul George is second on the team with a 21.6 scoring average. Carmelo Anthony is averaging a career-low 16.3 points as he is no longer his team's primary scoring option. The soon to be 34 year old is adapting well not being the go-to option.

Oklahoma City's fourth double-figure scorer is center Steven Adams. The underrated player is averaging 13.9 points. He is second on the team in rebounds behind Westbrook with 9.1 boards per game.

Point guard Goran Dragic leads the Heat in scoring at 17.5 ppg. He also leads in assists at 4.8. Center Hassan Whiteside leads the team in rebounds with 11.5 a tilt. He also blocks 1.7 shots per game. Throw in 14.0 points per game scoring as well.

The Heat has several capable scorers from the wings. The team is led by Josh Richardson, Tyler Johnson, Dwyane Wade and Wayne Ellington. All four score in double figures. Miami has nine double-figure scorers. That is five more than the Thunder.

Oklahoma City took the last four in the series, including a 105-99 home win on March 23.

Kentucky Derby Odds: Mendelssohn Surges Ahead

The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets battle on Saturday at Toyota Center. ABC Will have the telecast and tip-off is set for 8:30 pm EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Rockets as -6-point favorites versus the Thunder, while the game's total opened at 218.5. The line has now dropped to Houston -6 and the total is at 218.

The Rockets were a 96-94 winner in their most recent outing at home against the Portland Trail Blazers. They failed to cover the -10.5-point spread as favorites, while the total score (190) made winners of UNDER bettors.

Chris Paul converted a driving floater with eight-tenths of a second left. The shot secured a 96-94 victory that extended the Rockets' home-court winning streak to 20 games. He followed a similar bit of heroics delivered by Gerald Green on March 30 against the Phoenix Suns.

Raptors Host Celtics as Teams Jockey for Top of East

Raptors Have Two Game Lead on Celtics

The Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors are set to scrap on Wednesday when they meet at Air Canada Centre. ESPN will televise this matchup that could have sever playoff ramifications. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Raptors as -8-point favorites versus the Celtics, while the game's total opened at 206.5. The line is now Toronto as 7-point favorites. The total is not at 205.

The Raptors have the advantage over the Celtics for home-court advantage. They are still leading by two games despite the 112-106 loss Tuesday night to the Cavaliers.

The Raptors have lost five of their past eight games. The loss to the Cavs made it two in a row, after going on an 11-game winning streak.

The Celtics also dropped their game against the Bucks at Milwaukee on Tuesday, 106-102. They let Toronto off the hook for at least a few nights.

The home team has won in the first three games between the teams this season. Boston defeated Toronto 110-99 on Saturday in the most recent meeting. The Celtics have a 2-1 advantage in the season series between the teams.

Celtics are Banged up Still Heading into Raptors Game

The Celtics played Saturday without some key injured players. Kyrie Irving (knee) is out until the playoffs. Marcus Smart has a banged up thumb. They did have Al Horford and Marcus Morris back. Both had missed the previous game with ankle sprains.

Point guard Terry Rozier played through a sprained ankle Saturday. He did not play Tuesday at Milwaukee. Neither did his backup Shane Larkin. He missed his second straight game because of flu. Kadeem Allen made his first NBA start for Boston.

Giants Host the Mariners on Wednesday Night

Giants and Mariners Should be Classic Pitchers Duel

The San Francisco Giants will be fighting to snap a losing streak on Wednesday when they take on the Seattle Mariners at AT&T Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 pm EST. This has the makings of a classic pitchers duel.

Oddsmakers opened the Giants as -141-moneyline favorites versus the Mariners, while the game's total opened at 7. The Giants are now -130 on the moneyline and the total is 7.5 Under -115.

These perennial aces will go head-to-head for the first time in their illustrious careers Wednesday. That is hard to believe with the advent of inter-league play.

The Mariners will give the ball to starter Felix Hernandez in this one. Hernandez is 1-0 this season with a 0.00 ERA. King Felix went on opening day for Seattle. He shut out the Cleveland Indians on two hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 2-1 win. He walked two and struck out four.

He has faced the Giants four times in his career, but never in San Francisco. He's gone 3-0 in the four starts with a 1.86 ERA. Hernandez will be pitching in the 27th different ballpark in his career. This is also the his 376th start.

The Giants will counter Hernandez with Johnny Cueto. Cueto has a 0.00 ERA to go along with a 0-0 record this season. Cueto actually pitched better than Hernandez in his first start. He took a perfect game into the seventh inning on the road against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He wound up pitching seven shutout innings. He allowed just one hit, but got a no-decision in a game that was scoreless into the ninth inning. Joe Panik homered for a 1-0 Giants win.

Cueto has faced the Mariners just twice in his career. None as a member of the Giants. He's gone 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA.

Both Teams Facing Injury Bug

The Mariners jumped out of the gate quick in the rare matchup of West Coast rivals. They used a four-run first inning to help amass a 6-4 victory in the Giants' home opener Tuesday.

Nelson Cruz, but won't have a DH at all in the National League park.

The Mariners' Nelson Cruz was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday. He sprained his right ankle in Saturday's home game against Cleveland.

The Mariners already were missing 25-homer catcher Mike Zunino. He is out with an oblique strain. Seattle's catchers have combined to go 1-for-13 in his absence.

The Mariners didn't need a power-hitting catcher or a DH while piling up 12 hits in Tuesday's win. Dee Gordon and Jean Segura had three hits each from the top of the lineup. The duo accounted for half the Seattle total. This is against a San Francisco staff that already had two shutouts this season.

Evan Longoria homered in his home debut for the Giants. Bruce Bochy hinted that he may start the series finale on the bench. Pablo Sandoval could make his first start of the season.

Sandoval has two career home runs against Hernandez in eight at-bats.

Braves Host Undefeated Nationals

Braves Look to Cool National Hot Offense

The division rival Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves renew hostilities on Tuesday when they meet at SunTrust Park. The second game of a three game series will start at 7:35 pm EST. You can catch the game on regional television or MLB At Bat.

The Nationals will pin their hopes on the pitching of right hander A.J. Cole in this game. Cole has a 0-0 record and a 0.00 ERA this season.

It'll be Julio Teheran toeing the rubber for the Braves in this contest. Right hander Teheran is 0-0 with a 6.35 ERA so far this season.

Oddsmakers opened the Nationals as -118-moneyline favorites versus the Braves, while the game's total opened at 9.

Braves Look to Give Teheran Better Results this Outing

Atlanta lost the first game of the series 8-1. Bettors who backed the Nationals at -120 on the moneyline won on the day, and the total score (9) sent PUSH bettors to the payout window.

The 27-year-old surrendered four runs on four hits with three walks and one homer allowed in 5 2/3 innings. He got a no-decision as the Braves rallied late. Teheran left with the game tied at 2 a piece. The Bullpen came in and gave up two inherited runners. Teheran pitched better than the stat sheet says he did.

Teheran did some of his best work last season against the Nationals. He went 3-1 with a 3.24 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in four starts. Teheran finished the first season at Atlanta's new ballpark 3-10 with a 5.86 ERA. He went 8-3 with a 3.14 ERA on the road.

The nine straight home losses Teheran had a season ago was an Atlanta record. Teheran finished with the highest ERA (4.49) of his first five full seasons in the bigs.

Teheran had a good spring training. He fine-tuned some things over the winter. It showed with him going 4-0 with a 1.40 ERA in six Grapefruit League games.

Teheran is 6-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 18 career starts against the Nationals. He faces a Washington team that is 4-0 for the first time in team history.

Freddie Freeman tied a franchise record (held by Hall of Famer Eddie Mathews in 1955) with eight walks in the first four games of a season.

National are on Fire

Cole won the fifth spot in the Nationals rotation this spring. He had a relief appearance against the Braves last season after making his major league debut at Atlanta in a 2015 start.

Neither of his two outings went well.  Cole's 15.75 ERA against the Braves shows that. Cole gave up nine runs (five earned) while lasting just two innings in his debut. That game did end in a 13-12 comeback victory for the Nationals.

Cole was 3-5 with a 3.81 ERA last season. That covered eight starts and three relief appearances for the Nationals. He is 4-7 with a 4.52 ERA in 17 career starts and five games out of the bullpen.

The Braves scored 27 runs in taking two of three games from the Philadelphia Phillies. They were held to four hits over seven innings by Tanner Roark in the series opener. The Nationals beat the Braves for the 13th time in the last 19 meetings in Atlanta.

Bryce Harper hit a three-run homer in an 8-1 win on Monday in the series opener.

Nationals OF Adam Eaton is the reigning National League player of the week. He hit .615 with two homers, five RBIs and seven runs scored last week. He did not play Monday.
