The 143rd Preakness Stakes Post Posicitions are in. Post No. 7 worked out quite well for Justify at the Kentucky Derby. He’ll break from the same post at Saturday’s Preakness Stakes. The race starts at 6:20 PM ET post time on NBC. It doesn’t look like he’ll get much competition as the 1/2 favorite on the Morning Line.

Good Magic will break from the 5-hole as the 3/1 second favorite in this eight-horse race. Quip, who skipped the Kentucky Derby after finishing second at the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, is next on the inside rail at 12/1.

Justify arrived at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on Wednesday with trainer Bob Baffert. They arrived about 90 minutes before the post position draw. Baffert led the chestnut colt to Stall 28. Quip and Lone Sailor (15/2, post No. 2) arrived on the same flight.

Baffert is 4-0 at the Preakness when bringing in Derby winners. Winners include American Pharoah, who claimed the Triple Crown in 2015. 2018 Preakness Stakes Odds: Betting Preview

We knew that Justify would be on top of the Preakness Stakes betting lines heading into Saturday’s race. But it’s still a bit of a shock to see how far ahead of the pack he is. The reigning Kentucky Derby champion is far and away the best of the 2018 Preakness Stakes favorites.

Only Good Magic, who finished second at the Derby, is within shouting distance. Here are the eight horses in Saturday’s field. They are listed in order from shortest to longest odds. Bovada Racebook will have fresh odds for the Preakness Stakes all the way up to post time.

Justify (1/2)

Trained by Bob Baffert, who also led American Pharoah to Triple Crown glory in 2015, Justify has drawn the same post position that he had at Churchill Downs: post No. 7. Five horses have won the Preakness from this comfortable position since 1987. Both horse and trainer arrived in Baltimore on Wednesday after flying in from Louisville.

Baffert has won the Preakness six times, including 4-0 when bringing the Kentucky Derby winner to Pimlico. Jockey Mike Smith will try to win the Preakness for just the second time after riding Prairie Bayou to victory in 1993.

Good Magic (3/1)

The reigning Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner has raced six times in his career and has always finished on the podium. He’s drawn post No. 5, which has produced two Preakness champions since 2011. Trainer Chad Brown is lamenting the expected rainy conditions at Pimlico. This after finishing 2 ½ lengths behind Justify at the wettest-ever Kentucky Derby.

Brown won his first Preakness last year with Cloud Computing, while jockey Jose Ortiz has yet to win the Run for the Black-Eyed Susans.

Quip (12/1)

There are four “shooters” in this year’s lineup. Quip has the best Preakness Stakes 2018 odds of the bunch. Only two horses have won the Preakness from post No. 1 since 1994. The most recent was American Pharoah. Quip finished second to Magnum Moon at the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby on April 14. He then skipped the Kentucky Derby.

Three shooters have won the Preakness this millennium: Cloud Computing, Rachel Alexandra (2009) and Bernardini (2006).

Diamond Kind (30/1)

He may be the shooter of choice this year. This is after finishing first at the Federico Tesio Stakes on April 24 at Laurel Park – just a stone’s throw from Pimlico. Trainer John Servis also won the 2004 Preakness with Smarty Jones, while jockey Javier Castellano was on top of Cloud Computing last year.

Diamond King will try to become the third horse since 2000 to win the Preakness from post No. 4.

Bravazo (20/1)

This is one of two Preakness horses this year for six-time winning trainer D. Wayne Lukas. While he finished sixth at the Kentucky Derby, Bravazo is an experienced horse with a victory under his saddle at the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes on February 17.

Bravazo will be on the outside in post No. 8, which has produced two Preakness winners since 2002.

Lone Sailor (12/1)

Of all the hopefuls at the 2018 Preakness Stakes Lone Sailor drew post 2. Only Cloud Computing has won from that inside spot since 1986. Both trainer Tom Amoss and jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. are still looking for their first win at the Preakness.

Tenfold (20/1)

Trainer Steve Asmussen has won the Preakness twice, in 2007 and 2009. Tenfold’s odds on the Preakness Stakes have dropped from 30/1 on the Morning Line despite drawing post No. 6. That is the most successful post since 1987 with five champions.

Tenfold will also have three-time Preakness winning jockey Victor Espinoza on board.

Sporting Chance (30/1)

If you like to bet on Preakness Stakes long shots, Sporting Chance is aptly named 30/1 after drawing post No. 3. Three horses have won the Preakness from there since 1988. This is the second horse for Lukas in Saturday’s field. Although Sporting Chance is technically a shooter, he raced on Derby Day, finishing fourth at the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile.

Angels Host Astros on Monday Night

Angels Need Offense to Show up Against Astros

The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels meet at Angel Stadium Monday night in the first game of a three game series. The Astros have superb pitching and the Angels have and up and own offense.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Lance McCullers Jr. (5-1, 3.72 ERA) vs. Angels LH Andrew Heaney (1-2, 4.78)

Oddsmakers opened the Astros as -142-moneyline favorites versus the Angels, while the game's total opened at 7.5. The line is now Houston -128 on the moneyline and the total has crept up to 8.

The Astros have only allowed one run in each of their past four games. That lowers their league-leading ERA to 2.49. Houston hasn't allowed more than two runs in its past six games. The only major league team since 1989 with an ERA below 3.00 for an entire season was the 2015 St. Louis Cardinals (2.94).

The Angels averaged seven runs per game to help them go 7-2 to start the month. They only combined for nine runs in the past three games against the Minnesota Twins. They managed to salvage a split of the four-game series with a walk-off 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon. That keept them a game behind first-place Houston in the American League West.

Astros Looking to Exact Some Revenge on the Angels

Houston lost two of three to the visiting Angels last month. They are 6-1 on the road against AL West teams so far this season.

Astros designated hitter Evan Gattis is 6-for-17 in his five-game hitting streak. He has homered in each of the past two games.

Lance McCullers Jr. hasn't lost since April 6. He'll try to join Corey Kluber of the Cleveland Indians and Luis Severino of the New York Yankees as the only six-game winners in the American League.

McCullers has been very tough on the Angels over his four-year career. He's 3-1 in nine starts. His 1.78 ERA against LA is the lowest against any team he has faced more than once.

The current members who have seen McCullers the most are all hitting below .200 against the right-hander. Mike Trout is 2-for-17 against McCullers, Andrelton Simmons is 2-for-13, and Kole Calhoun and Albert Pujols are each 4-for-22.

George Springer (elbow) did not play for a second straight day Sunday. He is expected to return to the lineup for the opener.

Angels Need Quality Pitching

Angels starter Andrew Heaney has been solid in his past three outings but has just one win to show for the performances.

He gave up one earned run in five innings against the New York Yankees on April 7.  He did not get a decision in the 4-3 loss.  Then he allowed one run in six innings on May 2 against the Baltimore Orioles before the Angels held on to win 10-7. He went another six innings on Tuesday at the Colorado Rockies. He gave up two runs in taking the defeat in the 4-2 loss.

Heaney has allowed just five hits in each of his past five starts. Heaney has not surrendered a homer in four of his five outings. He faces the Astros for the first time since tossing five scoreless innings in a no-decision in 2015.

Justin Upton is tied with Cleveland OF Michael Brantley for the most RBIs in May (17).

Game 1 Preview: Rockets and Warriors Clash in Western Conference Finals

Will any Defence Be Played in the Western Conference Finals?

The Western Conference Finals will see Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets clash on Monday at Toyota Center. This is the matchup that the entire NBA nation has been wanting to see all season. Both teams have high-powered offenses, the only question is will they play defense?

The Rockets and Warriors have no secrets. But One of them could have one. They could prove they can play defense. The team that does will most likely win the best-of-seven tilt.

Both teams closed the season ranked in the top 10 in defensive efficiency. Both have possibly ratcheted up their efforts in the playoffs. Their improved stats could be because of playing weaker teams. It is easier to clamp down playing the same team over several games. That is why some teams are built for the playoffs and some for regular season.

Golden State is first in defensive rating at 99.3 ppg.  The Rockets are second at 102.1. Points may not be at a premium. The question could be answer by how Draymond Green, P.J. Tucker, and Clint Capela defend.

Houston Offense Primed for Western Conference Finals

The Rockets have outscored their foes by 13.8 points per game on 3 pointers in the playoffs. They are also averaging 52 drives to the hoop per game. That also tops the NBA this postseason. Their offensive is built on isolation out of the pick-and-roll. Harden and Paul are exploiting matchups off the dribble or feeding teammates slipping behind the arc.

Houston led the NBA averaging 1.12 points per possession on isolations during the regular season. 14.1 percent of their possessions in the playoffs have been isolation. That is the highest among theteams left in the playoffs.

James Harden continues to stuff the stat sheet. He has joined Michael Jordan (1988-89 and 1990-91) as the second player in NBA history to average at least 28 points, seven assists, five boards and two steals while playing more than five games in a postseason.

Chris Paul averaged 21.8 points through the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Defending the Warriors "Hampton Five" Lineup is Critical

Steve Kerr turned to his "Hamptons Five" lineup once all were healthy. The lineup of Curry, Durant, Green, Thompson and Andre Iguodala have outscored their opponents by 41 points per 100 possessions over 54 minutes. The lineup has assisted on 75 percent of its field goals. They are playing at a torrid pace of 114 possessions per 48 minutes.

Defending the Warriors gives opposing teams a multitude of challenges. The starting point is with Kevin Durant. He shot 41.9 percent on 3s during the season. He is shooting 60.9 percent from midrange in the playoffs.

Golden State had a robust 61.8 effective field goal percentage against the Rockets during three regular-season matchups. This leaves the onus on Houston to defend at a better clip.

Stephen Curry came back from a knee injury in Game 2 of the semifinal series against New Orleans. The two-time MVP showed little rust. He averaged 24.5 points while making 44.1 percent of his 3-pointers during the series.

Can Love and Company Contribute In Eastern Conference Finals

The Cavs are looking for their fourth straight conference title behind LeBron James. The Cavs dropped to fourth in the conference this year. The Philadelphia 76ers ran off 16 straight wins at the end of the season to finish 3rd.

Disney and Seminole are Re-Investing in Anti-Gambling Campaign

According to Florida’s state campaign-finance database, Disney and Seminole contributed a total of $10 million to the anti-gambling campaign. Disney contributed $5 million in April, for a total of $9.655 million, while the tribe had contributed $6.775 million.

In addition, Disney and the Tribe have contributed all of the money for the political committee, Voters In Charge. This agenda for this committee is to let voters decide on any gambling expansions in the state of Florida.

Opposing Gambling Expansion with their own agenda

In November, Florida will decide whether voters or the Legislature should have the power to decide on certain gambling issues.  Disney Worldwide Services Inc. has always opposed the possibility of casino gambling in Florida.

This is because they want Florida to remain a family friendly state which is synonymous with Disney’s operations. In addition, they believe that gambling causes a lot of issues on an individual, family and community basis. Furthermore, they believe that people with gambling problems should seek a nearby therapist for help.

On the other hand, the Seminole Tribe of Florida wants to curb gambling in Florida for different reasons.  This is because they more or less have a monopoly on gambling in the State. The proposed amendment will take place in November of this year under Amendment 3.  If approved, Florida voters would have the "exclusive right to decide whether to authorize casino gambling."
