Argos and Roughriders Open their 2018 CFL Season

Roughriders Football

Argos Start Defense of CFL Title Against Roughriders

The Toronto Argonauts and the Saskatchewan Roughriders open their 2018 CFL Season at Mosaic Stadium on Friday. The reigning Grey Cup Champ, Argos, begin defending their title tonight. This a rematch of last year’s Eastern Final at new Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

The bitter defeat from November still lingers for Roughriders players and fans. It was a devastating loss at the hands of the Argos. Saskatchewan was less than three minutes away from a Grey Cup berth.

Then future hall of famer Ricky Ray worked his magic. He orchestrated a late touchdown drive that pulled the Argos ahead. The rest is history as Toronto went on the stun the Calgary Stampeders in the 105th Grey Cup presented by Shaw. The Argos claimed their 17th CFL title.

Oddsmakers have the Argos favored by 2.5 points. The total is at 49.5. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. ET and can be seen on TSN, RDS and ESPN2.

Can Argos Trestman Work Magic Again?

Marc Trestman and Jim Popp came in last year after Head Coach Scott Malinovich left for the NFL right before the season. In just one season, they turned the Double Blue from worst to first in the CFL. The Argos are considered by many as the top team in the East heading into the 2018 season.

The Argos’ core group from last years' squad is intact. Ray will lead the charge on offense. He is flanked by last year’s Most Outstanding Rookie James Wilder Jr. at running back, and the seemingly ageless S.J. Green as a top target.

The Argos bolstered their already-strong defense with some strong additions. T.J. Heath is back with the Boatmen after the team traded him two seasons ago to Winnipeg. Ex-BC Lion Ronnie Yell will be making his Argos debut at cornerback on Friday.

Roughriders Have Questions Heading into Week One

The biggest question heading into Week 1 for the Riders is at quarterback. Will it be Zach Collaros or Brandon Bridge taking the snaps against the Argos?

Collaros is listed as the starter on the team’s depth chart, there is still no definitive answer.

It’s expected that Collaros will make his first start as a Rider. The veteran pivot is back to wearing his old number 17. He is looking to bounce back after a pair of disappointing seasons in Hamilton. The 29-year-old suffered a devastating knee injury back in 2015. He was on pace to be named Most Outstanding Player.

Collaros will have two of the top receivers in the league with Carter and Roosevelt at his disposal. Saskatchewan’s offense is a force to reckoned with. Riderville was shocked by the release of three veteran receivers last week.

Many Changes to the Roughriders Offense

Rob Bagg, Bakari Grant, and Chad Owens were sent packing just days before the start of the season. Bagg was a favorite in Riderville and a mainstay for almost a decade. Grant was coming off of a plus 1000-yard season. Owens brought a wealth of knowledge to the locker room.

The Riders also released offensive guard Travis Bond. Jarvis Harrison beat him out for the starting job. The Riders’ O-line will be under the microscope on Friday with the changes and some uneven preseason play.

Despite some tough cuts on offense, the Riders appear stronger on both sides of the ball. New addition Jerome Messam will look to make a statement in his return to Saskatchewan. He previously played for  them in 2014 and 2015. The 33-year-old running back is coming off of his third 1000-yard season.

On defense the Riders have added last year’s sack leader and four-time CFL All-Star Charleston Hughes. The one-two punch of Hughes and Willie Jefferson will be imposing. With the duo on opposite sides of the defensive line could cause nightmares for opposing quarterbacks.

They hope it starts with Ricky Ray, who’s not known for his foot speed.

Red Sox and Yankees in for Another Battle in AL East

AL East

By: The Frisco Kid

AL East -- Red Sox Looking in Rear View | Can Yankees Catch Up

In what may be a season long roller coaster, the AL East is churning like a tropical storm. It seems that no matter what the Yankees do right, the Red Sox do one better.

The race heats up in the AL East as the Yankees take on the Tampa Bay Rays in a four game weekend set. The Red Sox find themselves in the Pacific Northwest taking on the red hot Mariners.

This weekend is a prime opportunity for the Yankees to make up some much needed ground over these pesky Red Sox. This Red sox team is for real and they are not going away. Having won four straight, they hit the Mariners at a good time; when they are hot.

The Sox are going to need every bat to fight off the upstart Mariners. They walked away with a 2-1 victory in the series opener on Thursday night behind another strong outing from David Price who threw for 7 innings giving up 5 hits and one earned run with no walks.

The Mariners

Don’t underestimate the Mariners. These guys are hot as well and hitting the cover off the ball. The Red Sox got away with one on Thursday and scored in the second on a misplayed fly ball to right. This seldom happens to this Mariners club.

The Mariners have built a very solid defensive team. Relying on Felix Hernandez just might keep them out of the race down the stretch in a long baseball season. Find a great bookie service and take a serious look at the Red Sox. They are proving to be a fantastic bet this year against the numbers.

Where do the Yankees fit in all of the madness in this AL East Race?

The Yankees will be fine. They are too deep to not be! This team is built for the long haul and they will give the Red Sox a run for the money. You can count on the Yankees hitting. The question is, can you count on the Yankees pitching? That is yet to be determined.

Look, the Yankees are solid on the mound and it’s tough playing in that town. Pitchers are held to a completely different standard. When a team has a guy like Severino with 9 wins, everyone else is chopped liver! The Yankees pitching rotation is squared away and built for the long haul.

Aaron Boone and staff have this team built for success. With the likes of Chad Green at 4 wins, Severino 9 wins, Sabathia 4 wins, Robertson 5 wins, Tanaka 7 wins, and Sonny Gray with 4 wins. But this is not the end of the story. Aroldis Chapman has held up his end of the bargain like a champion with 19 saves!

Can the Pitching Staff Keep up Torid Pace?

This pitching staff is loaded so far this year. Nobody is saying this is the second coming of the 1998 Yankees when they had Pettitte, Wells Cone, Irabu and Hernandez! AND with a bullpen stacked with the greatest closer of all time—Mariano Rivera.

The Pen also had Mendoza, Stanton, Nelson and Loyd. That was a team for the ages and the Yankees will probably never have that luxury again.

At the end of the day in 2018, the Yankees will hold their own with the Red Sox. They may take over the lead in the AL East this weekend. The Red Sox will need to sweep the Mariners and we don’t see that happening, not by a long shot.

The Mariners are a good ball club and they will be a huge problem for the Sox at Safeco. The Yankees should step and most likely get a series sweep in Tampa.

This is a fantastic weekend for baseball with two great scenarios being played out in both the American League East and West. Call your online bookie and lay the numbers this weekend. There is real opportunity to pad the baseball bankroll.

MLS Soccer -- Columbus Crew SC vs. Atlanta United

Atlanta United

First Place Atlanta United Look to Keep Solid Play

Columbus Crew SC vs. Atlanta United
2018 MLS Regular Season - Week 16
MAPFRE Stadium — Columbus
June 13 - 7:30 pm ET
WATCH: ESPN+, MLS LIVE on DAZN (Canada)

It’s another Eastern Conference ier clash with first-place Atlanta United heading to MAPFRE Stadium to meet a Columbus Crew SC side that is three points off the lead. This comes  days after the United were able to take a result away from Yankee Stadium.

Both teams come into the game off high-profile draws on Saturday. The Five Stripes were fortunate to come out of Yankee Stadium level with NYCFC, 1-1. The Crew SC settled for a 1-1 home draw with the New York Red Bulls.

Atlanta won their two regular season meetings against Crew SC in 2017. They outscored them 5-1. The Crew beat Atlanta in the 2017 playoffs in a shootout win at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Columbus Crew SC

It’s now nine games without a loss for Columbus (7-3-6). It’s three consecutive draws instead of some wins as Crew SC played the Red Bulls to a 1-1 draw.

If not for Luis Robles’ heroics, Crew SC should have had more than just a Gyasi Zardes goal, his 10th of the season in the 26th minute, from a dominant opening 45 minutes.

The Red Bulls rallied after halftime and earned an Alex Muyl equalizer in the 57th minute.

Atlanta United

Brad Guzan stood on his head, making nine saves to help Atlanta (9-3-3) earn a 1-1 draw with NYCFC. They became the first team this season to take a point from Yankee Stadium.

The first half was an entertaining one, but scoreless. The Five Stripes jumped in front in the 48th minute on Josef Martinez’s league-leading 13th goal of the season. NYCFC went on the offensive and outshot Atlanta, 25-5 from that point. They leveled on an Alex Callens back-post header in the 77th minute and hitting three posts.

Yankees and Nats Wrap up Series in New York

Yankees Baseball

Yankees Look to Sweep the Nationals Tonight

The Washington Nationals and the New York Yankees play the last game in their series on Wednesday when they battle at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees can sweep the two game series and put the Nationals two games behind the Braves.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, MASN (Washington), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Erick Fedde (0-1, 4.76 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Sonny Gray (4-4, 4.81)

Oddsmakers have the Yankees as -180 moneyline favorites and the total is at 9.5.

Yankees Offense Depends on Long Ball

Yankees have relieved heavily on homers of late. New York has scored 20 of their last 22 runs courtesy of the long ball. After Didi Gregorius recorded his third multi-homer performance of the season in the opener.

Gregorius is batting .313 over his last 12 games. He belted a pair of solo homers in Tuesday's 3-0 triumph for New York. The Yankees have won 10 of 12 overall and 18 of its last 22 at home.

The Yankees' bullpen pushed its scoreless innings streak to 21 2/3 innings. They pitched 3 1/3 scoreless frames in the opener. It lowered their ERA to a majors-best 0.63 in 42 2/3 innings over the last 14 games.

Gray got a no-decision on Wednesday despite retiring the first 12 batters he faced. He scattered two hits and struck out eight over eight scoreless innings against Toronto.

The 28-year-old has recorded quality starts in three of his last four outings. Gray has limited the current crop of Nationals to just a .219 batting average. Gray has yet to pick up a decision in two career starts versus the Nationals despite stellar stats.

C Gary Sanchez, who is mired in a 4-for-53 stretch with 18 strikeouts, is expected to sit out his second straight game on Wednesday.

Nationals Look to Keep Pace with Braves

The Nationals have been blanked for second time in as many games. In yesterdays shutout they collected just eight hits in the process.

Bryce Harper is expected to be fine after the 2015 National League Most Valuable Player was hit in the elbow and foot by a pair of pitches in Tuesday's tilt.

Fedde is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to replace fellow right-hander Stephen Strasburg. The candy-assed Strasburg was shuffled to the disabled list on Sunday with an ailing shoulder.

The 25-year-old allowed three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings to take the loss against San Diego on May 23. That is his lone spot start with the Nationals. Fedde has a 3-2 mark with a 4.76 ERA in 56 2/3 innings with Syracuse this season.

CF Adam Eaton has hit safely in both games since being activated from the 60-day disabled list.

Sparks WNBA Basketball

Tonights Game Could be WNBA Defensive Battle

The fans at STAPLES Center will see the Atlanta Dream and the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday night when they take their seats. Both teams have made a committment on the defensive end this year.

The Sparks played their worst game of the season on Thursday. Los Angeles bounced back to beat the Chicago Sky on Sunday. The Sparks led wire to wire and held the Sky to 59 points. That is 18 below their season average.

The Sparks will need that same effort when they play Atlanta tonight. The Dream (5-3) have won three straight and are the league's most improved team.

Candace Parker is just rounding into form after minor offseason surgery. She looked like her old self on Sunday. She had 24 points, six boards and three assists. Nneka Ogwumike added 16 points and Chelsea Gray 15.

Dream are Have Won Three Straight in WNBA Action

East Leading Atlanta Braves Host the Mets

Atlanta Braves

Atlanta Braves Played Most Road Games in MLB

The New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves will meet on Tuesday at SunTrust Park in Atlanta. The Mets have been looking to get out of the city of New York, and the Braves welcome a long home stand. They have played the most road games in MLB so far this season. The Mets had lost 10 straight at home.

Right hander Zack Wheeler will take the mound for the Mets to start this game. Wheeler is 2-4 this season with a 4.57 ERA.

Wheeler's opponent in this one will be Mike Foltynewicz. The Braves right hander has a 2.31 ERA to go along with a 5-4 record this season.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, ESPN; SNY (New York), FS Southeast (Atlanta)

Oddsmakers opened the Braves as -146-moneyline favorites versus the Mets, while the game's total opened at 8.5. The Braves are now -150 on the moneyline and the total is still at 8.5.

Atlanta Braves are the Surprise of the NL This Season

The Braves are in a virtual tie for the National League East lead with Washington. This is despite going 2-4 against San Diego and the Los Angeles Dodgers during a road trip that concluded Sunday. They lead the fourth-place Mets by 7 1/2 games.

Atlanta is 7-3 against New York this season. They are off to its surprising start thanks to a 25-14 record against the rest of the NL East. The Braves have played just 28 home games. They have 12 of their next 14 at SunTrust Park.

Foltynewicz had the best game of his career in his most recent start in Atlanta. He pitched a two-hit shutout against the Nationals on June 1. Folty striuck out 11 and walked one.

Foltynewicz was 3-1 with a 0.56 ERA in a five-start stretch after blanking Washington. He struggled with location through five innings in a loss at San Diego on Wednesday. Folty is still looking for consistency.

Mets are in a Freefall

The Mets have been in a free fall since starting the season 11-1. They hope to get things back on track away from the pressures of New York during a 10-game road trip.

Wheeler allowed just three hits in seven scoreless innings against Baltimore on Wednesday in New York. He got a no-decision in the loss.

The Mets scored one run while being swept in a three-game series by the Orioles. They scored only 12 runs in the 1-8 homestand.

Wheeler missed the 2015 and 2016 seasons after Tommy John elbow surgery. He will be facing the Braves for the first time since be threw six scoreless innings against them at old Turner Field on Sept. 19, 2014. Wheeler is 4-2 with a 2.94 ERA in eight career starts against his hometown team.

Wheeler started the season in the minors. He has three quality starts in his last four outings while posting a 2.52 ERA during that stretch.

To enter the Contest, Participants must have a registered FanDuel.com account and enter through the FanDuel.com website or using the FanDuel mobile application. Participants who do not enter a score and outcome for all games in one day will not be eligible for that day’s Daily Contest.

a Sponsor shall not be liable for any problems that occur during the entry process, including without limitation, late, incomplete, delayed, undelivered, or misdirected entries, and shall not have any obligation to advise an entrant of an incomplete, invalid, or undeliverable submission. No illegible, incomplete, forged, or altered entries will be accepted.

b Limit One (1) Entry per person per night during the Contest Period.

How Winners are Determined

For each Daily Contest, a Participant must select the correct outcome (e.g., which team will win or whether the game will end in a tie) and the correct scores across all games run that day in order to win a share of the daily prize (“Daily Prize”). At the end of each Daily Contest, all Participants that correctly choose all the outcome(s) and score(s) will split the Daily Prize (“Cash Prize”). The prizing for each Daily Contest will be displayed when each Daily Contest becomes available for Participants to enter.

In addition, Participants who pick all the correct outcome(s) in a Daily Contest (but not necessarily the score(s) as well) will receive a voucher into an exclusive World Cup DFS Free Play (“Voucher Prize”) taking place at the end of the World Cup round in which the Daily Contest occurred. Participants are eligible to win one Voucher Prize per Daily Contest in which they participate

In the event a World Cup game is decided by penalty shoot-out, the correct outcome will involve picking the winning team, while the correct score will involve picking the correct score at the end of overtime.

The Free Plays will take place according to the following schedule:
