Free Week 6 CFL Betting Picks- British Columbia Lions at Ottawa REDBLACKS

REDBLACKS CFL Football

REDBLACKS and Lions Both Trying to get Over .500

This Friday night’s betting action in the CFL features an inter-division clash between the British Columbia Lions and the Ottawa REDBLACKS. This a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at TD Place.ESPN+ will have all the action in the United States.

VietBet has opened the RedBlacks as 6.5-point home favorites with the total set at 53.5 points. Ottawa is now a 7-point favorite and the total has settled in at 53.

Lions Look for Some Consistency Against the REDBLACKS

The Lions moved to 2-2 on the year. That is both straight-up and against the spread. Last Saturday’s 20-17 upset against Winnipeg as 4.5-point home underdogs assured that. This followed a 41-19 road loss to the Blue Bombers as 6.5-point underdogs in the first meeting in that home-and-home series.

The total stayed UNDER 55 points in the latest win. The scores went OVER in two of BC’s first three games this year.

Travis Lulay returned to the Lions’ starting lineup at quarterback. He did just enough to help his team get a much-needed victory. He put the ball up 41 times and completed 28 passes. This led to 326 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Lulay completed at least one throw to eight different players. Chris Rainey led the way with 71 yards receiving and 43 yards running the ball.

QB Play Has to Improve for REDBLACKS

Ottawa has lost two of its first four games with each of those defeats coming against Calgary. Last Thursday they lost as three-point home underdogs. The RedBlacks were never in the decision of a 27-3 loss. They also lost to the Stampeders 24-14 on June 28 as 7.5-point underdogs on the road.

They are currently 2-2 both SU and ATS. The victories are against Saskatchewan at home and Montreal on the road. The total has stayed UNDER in each of their last three games.

Trevor Harris has been hit or miss at quarterback for Ottawa this season. He should have much bettor success this Friday at home against BC. Last week against Calgary, he was held to 93 yards passing while completing 14 of his 22 passing attempts.

The RedBlacks ran the ball 13 times in that game for a total of just 35 rushing yards. The Offense has to do better than this.

As far as this inter-division tilt, Ottawa has played well and won the games it was supposed to this season. I expect a much better effort this week against BC in a matchup that stays UNDER VietBets’ closing line of 53.

Tiger-Cats Host Roughriders in Thursday CFL Action

Hamitlton Tiger-Cats Football

Tiger-Cats Look for Revenge in Week 6 Action

The fans at Tim Hortons Field will be treated to a game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats when they take their seats on Thursday night. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on TSN, RDS and ESPN+.

Oddsmakers have listed the TiCats as 11-point favorites. The total is sitting at 51.

The Roughriders are two weeks removed from an 18-13 win in Regina against the Tiger-Cats. The TiCats will be bent on revenge in a game at home tonight where they are heavily favored.

TiCat quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is chasing history. The Ole Miss product could set the CFL’s all-time record for most consecutive 300-plus passing-yard games. It will take a strong performance against Saskatchewan on Thursday.

The record currently is nine. It is shared by Masoli, Kent Austin (1991, Saskatchewan) and Sam Etcheverry (1956, Montreal).

Bet at 5dimes

Roughriders Need Win to Keep Pace in the West

If the Riders have their way, Masoli won’t earn the record to himself. The Ticat pivot is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league today, and still managed 333 passing yards in his team’s 13-point effort in Regina.

Brandon Bridge was chosen as the starting quarterback early in the week. It remains to be seen how much of a leash he will have. He was replaced before the end of the first quarter. He returned to finish the ballgame when these teams met two weeks ago.

Saskatchewan will make just one change to its Week 4 roster. They will swap out one D-lineman Makana Henry for another in safety Tristan Doughlin.

Tiger-Cats are Looking for the End Zone More Often

As much as Masoli’s shot at history would be a nice, wins are what matter.

Even with his 333 yards in Regina last time out, he was not good enough. One interception and zero touchdowns is not up to the standard of any starting quarterback in CFL. Especially one of Masoli’s quality.

It remains to be seen what the 29 year-old’s receiver group will look like. Luke Tasker is listed as a game-time decision. Head coach June Jones intends to make the decision after pregame warmups. Rookie Rashad Lawrence will likely slide into Tasker’s spot at slotback.

The secondary will be boosted by the return of Richard Leonard. The Florida International product came into 2018 with a chip on his shoulder. He believed to be a snub in Rookie of the Year voting. Leonard began the year very well before a Week-2 injury against Edmonton.

2018 first-round draft pick Darius Ciraco will make his fifth-straight start. The former Calgary Dino has been an immediate impact player early in his rookie campaign.

CFL Week 6 This and That

8% of drives in games involving Saskatchewan end in touchdowns. That’s a sharp drop from the 18 per cent mark in the 15 non-Saskatchewan games played this year. The Riders are a defensive team, and wins will likely come because of defense.

Three-straight games of triple-digit receiving yards for Hamilton’s Brandon Banks. He has flourished under June Jones’s high powered offense.

The CFL has never had two quarterbacks eclipse the 6,000-yard mark in the same season. Masoli and Edmonton’s Mike Reilly are on pace to be in the vicinity come the end of the season.

Saskatchewan’s defense has been downright monstrous at times to begin the season. Hamilton’s offense has had moments of being unstoppable.

Cubs and Cards Kick Off MLB’s Return from All-Star Break

Chicago Cubs

Cards-Cubs Starting Second Half With a Bang

The Cubs host the Cardinals to start off second half of the 2018 regular season begins tonight.  It is the only game on the MLB schedule. The Route 66 Rivalry reunion will be played at Wrigley Field.

The Chicago Cubs are 55-38 with  plus-1.82 betting units resume. The St. Louis Cardinals are 48-46 and stand at a minus-8.95 betting units.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN.  Odds: Cubs are -155 on the moneyline. The Total is 9.5.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Carlos Martinez (6-5, 3.08 ERA) vs. Cubs RH Kyle Hendricks (6-8, 3.92).

The Cardinals in a state of flux after firing manager Mike Matheny on Saturday. They replaced him with interim manager Mike Shildt. He was a top scout for the Cards who then made the transition to coaching in the mid-2000s.

Shildt was the bench coach before taking over from Matheny. St. Louis won his managerial debut 6-4 over the Cincinnati Reds as –162 home favorites.

Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Kyle Hendricks (3.92 ERA) is on the hill for Chicago. Hendricks isn’t pitching quite as well as he did in his first four years on the North Side. The Cubs have also given him just 4.42 runs per game in support.

This leaves Hendricks at the bottom of the starter rankings to start the 2nd half. The Cubs are minus-13.51 units on a team record of 6-12. The Under is 12-5-1 in those 18 starts.

Martinez had won three straight starts. He posted quality starts in all three, before losing to Cincinnati in his last outing of the first half. The 26-year-old Dominican allowed three runs over five innings. It was his first loss at home since May 8.

Martinez is 4-4 with a 4.58 ERA in 25 games (15 starts) against the Cubs. He received a no-decision June 16 in which he gave up three runs over five frames.

The Nations Capital Hosts the 2018 MLB All-Star Game

2018 MLB All-Star Game

Sale and Scherzer on the Mound in 2018 MLB All-Star Game

The 2018 MLB All-Star Game will take place Tuesday night, with the American League and National League going head-to-head. Although there are a few injury replacements, almost all of the game’s brightest stars will participate.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FOX. Odds: Sale is -147 on the moneyline and the total is 7 Under -125.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Chris Sale (10-4, 2.23 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Max Scherzer (12-5, 2.41).

The American League is headlined by the likes of Mike Trout, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor and Aaron Judge. The general consensus is that the American League has the better stars. The top 10 players in all of baseball, according to the WAR statistic (wins above replacement), are all from the AL.

Sale Has Been Dominant

Sale is to make his third consecutive All-Star start. Sale is in the midst of a remarkable stretch of five consecutive starts with at least 11 strikeouts and no more than one walk. He leads the AL in ERA and strikeouts (188).

AL manager A.J. Hinch will back up Sale with a staff that includes staff aces Luis Severino (Yankees) and Blake Snell (Tampa Bay). He will also have MLB saves leader Edwin Diaz (Seattle).

This will help them continue their recent dominance. The American League has won five straight and 17 of the last 21 (with one tie).

Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a 50% bonus.

The National League will try to quell those big AL bats with Max Scherzer. With the game being played in Washington, the Nats’ ace will to pitch well in his home stadium. He is second in the majors in wins (12-5).

Scherzer is tied for NL lead, and has a sparkling 2.41 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. He also ranks third in ERA and first in strikeouts (182). Scherzer will make his second consecutive All-Star start and third overall. Including one for the AL as a member of the Detroit Tigers in 2013.

He will be backed up by MLB ERA leader Jacob deGrom (1.68). Budding young stars like Aaron Nola (Philadelphia) and Mike Foltynewicz (Atlanta) are available as well.

The NL bullpen features a pair of relievers who may be showcasing talent. These guys figure to have their names called out around the trade deadline in San Diego's Brad Hand and Pittsburgh's Felipe Vazquez.

2018 MLB All-Star Game This and That

  1. Royals C Salvador Perez will replace Rays C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) in the starting lineup.

  2. Reigning AL Cy Young Award winner RHP Corey Kluber (Cleveland) and World Series hero RHP Justin Verlander (Houston) will be inactive for the game.

  3. Betts will bat leadoff for the AL while the Baez starts things off for the NL lineup.
