Free NFL Preseason Week 2 Pick- New York Jets at Washington Redskins

Washington Redskins Football

New York Giants at Washington Redskins

The New York Jets continue their 2018 preseason schedule with a trip to FedEx Field this Thursday night to face the Washington Redskins. Game time is set for 8 p.m. on ESPN.

BetAnySports opened the Redskins as two-point favorites with the total set at 37.5. The line is now a PK and the total is up to 38.5.

New York is coming off a straight-up 5-11 campaign in 2017. The team took a small step towards turning things around in last Friday’s 17-0 shutout against Atlanta as a four-point home favorite.

The total stayed UNDER 37.5 points in that game. The Jets went 3-1 against the spread in the preseason last year. They were 8-7-1 ATS in the regular season. They did slip to 2-5-1 ATS in their eight road games in 2017.

The biggest offseason addition to New York’s roster was rookie quarterback Sam Darnold in the first round of the draft. He got his NFL career off to a solid start by completing 13 of his 18 passing attempts for 96 yards and a score.

Teddy Bridgewater threw for 85 yards and a score against the Falcons. Bridgewater is trying to earn the starting role in the Jets’ offense.

Redskins Looking to Improve Over 2017

The Redskins slipped to 7-9 (SU and ATS) in the 2017 regular season. They had a 2-2 mark (SU and ATS) in the preseason. They started this preseason with last Thursday’s 26-17 loss to New England. There were listed as 2.5-point underdogs on the road with BetAnySports.

The total went OVER the 37.5-point closing line. Washington was an even 3-3 ATS last season when it closed as a favorite. They had a 4-4 record ATS in eight home games.

Kirk Cousins moved on to Minnesota via free agency in the offseason. Head coach Jay Gruden will turn to veteran Alex Smith as his starter in the regular season.

Colt McCoy made the most of his playing time against New England. He finished with 189 yards passing and a pair of touchdown throws. He completed 13-of-18 passing attempts.

Kapri Bibbs looked sharp running the ball for Washington. He finished with 48 yards on four carries highlighted by a 41-yard gain.

Each team’s starters should get some longer playing time this Thursday night. While the OVER on BetAnySports’ total line is an attractive bet. I am going with Washington SU and ATS as my best bet.

Royals Host the Blue Jays Wednesday Night

Royals MLB

Marco on the Mound Against Royals

This hasn’t been the best of years for the Toronto Blue Jays or the Kansas City Royals. The Blue Jays are 54-65, -9.10 betting units. They have one of their few profitable starting pitchers will be in action Wednesday night.

Estrada takes the mound when the Jays visit the Kansas City Royals (36-83, -30.10 units).  Marco Estrada is due up for Toronto opposite fellow right-hander Jorge Lopez.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, TVA, Sportsnet (Toronto), FS Kansas City.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Marco Estrada (5-9, 4.84 ERA) vs. Royals RH Jorge Lopez (0-0,0.00 ERA AL. 0-1,2.75 ERA NL).

ODDS: Blue Jays are -138-moneyline favorites. The total is at 9.5.

Bet on baseball at Bovada and get a free 50% bonus.

Estrada isn’t having his best season. Toronto’s Opening Day starter has the team 0.98 units in the black on a record of 5-9. However, Estrada has been inconsistent since returning from a three-week stay on the disabled list with a strained glute.

That was followed by a blister that formed on Estrada’s right middle finger during his rehab stint. Estrada has allowed 10 runs over 16.1 innings in three starts since coming off the DL.

Jorge Lopez is 25 years and just beginning his career with the Kansas City Royals. They obtained him as part of the trade July 27 that sent third baseman Mike Moustakas to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Lopez is replacing Burch Smith in the rotation. This will be Lopez's third big league start. He went 0-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 10 relief appearances earlier this season with the Brewers and was 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two starts in 2015 with Milwaukee.

Mariners vs. Athletics MLB Betting Preview

Oakland Athletics

Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics

Tuesday, August 14 at 10:05 PM ET

 Oakland Coliseum

 Mostly Cloudy 62°F

 Wind: 7mph

 Out

Odds:  Mariners -124 on the moneyline. The Total is 7.5Under -115 at Jazz Sportsbook.

The Seattle Mariners clash with the Oakland Athletics in a game with huge American League West implications. The A's won the series opener 7-6 last night and now they're just two games behind the Astros in the division while the Mariners are just 4.5 games out of first place.

Paxton beats the Astros despite going just 5 2/3 innings

James Paxton (10-5, 3.63 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) gave up four earned runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts across 5 2/3 innings in an 8-6 win against the Astros last Thursday. Paxton is now 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA and a 5/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) in three starts (19 2/3 innings) since returning from a back injury on July 30

The Mariners (http://oddsandnews.com/baseball/MLB/seattle-mariners/38) have scored 750 runs (15th in the majors), putting up 4.21 runs per game (21st), hitting .259 (11th) with 136 home runs (15th). Seattle ranks 15th with a 4.46 ERA, 12th with a 1.31 WHIP and 17th with 995 strikeouts. Their bullpen ranks 15th with a 3.98 ERA.

Nelson Cruz leads the Mariners with 30 home runs and is second on the team with 76 RBI, Ryon Healy has 22 home runs and 59 RBI and Mitch Haniger has 17 home runs and team-bests with 78 RBI and a .366 OBP.

Fiers makes second start for the Athletics

Mike Fiers (7-6, 3.40 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) allowed one earned run on four hits (one home run) and no walks with eight strikeouts across 5 1/3 innings to get a no-decision in a 3-2 win against the Dodgers last Wednesday.

The Athletics (http://oddsandnews.com/baseball/MLB/oakland-athletics/37) have scored 739 runs (17th in the majors), putting up 4.77 runs per game (8th), hitting .246 (24th) with 160 home runs (6th). Oakland ranks 23rd with a 4.67 ERA, 14th with a 1.36 WHIP and 24th with 910 strikeouts. Their bullpen ranks 6th with a 3.39 ERA. Khris Davis leads the Athletics with 34 home runs and 93 RBI and Matt Olson has 22 home runs and 56 RBI.

MLB Trends:

The Under is:

15-5-1 in Seattle's last 21 after scoring five runs or more in their previous game

11-5 in Paxton's last 16 starts against a team with a winning record

6-2 in Paxton's last eight starts overall

5-1 in Oakland's last six home games

7-2 in Oakland's last nine overall

5-1 in the last six meetings

5-2-1 in the last eight meetings in Oakland

Deciding to bet the total here is a little tough because both offenses have the ability to explode but James Paxton and Mike Fiers are top notch quality starters, particularly as of late. Paxton has a 3.40 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP in his last seven starts while Fiers has a 2.04 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP in his last seven starts.

MLB Pick: Under 7.5 (-105) at Jazz Sportsbook
