NBA Opening Night: 76ers vs Celtics

Boston Celtics NBA Opening Night

Two Eastern Conference Faves Tangle on NBA Opening Night

NBA Opening Night kicks off with two teams starting the season at full strength for a change. The Philadelphia 76ers and the Boston Celtics will both be injury free when they battle at TD Garden tonight.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TNT

Odds: The Celtics are -5-point favorites. The game's total opened up to 210.5 after opening at 208.

The Boston Celtics are considered the Eastern Conference favorites. They will open the season at home on Tuesday against another contender. LeBron James' departure from Cleveland has elevated Boston into the team to beat in the East.

Philadelphia is an emerging force in the East as well. A stellar campaign last season left little doubt they were for real. The opener is a rematch of the Eastern Conference semifinals that Boston won in five games.

Boston reached the East finals without point guard Kyrie Irving and small forward Gordon Hayward. Those injuries cost them the East most likely. The 76ers' improvement has increased expectations exponentially in Philly, and around the league.

Philly has Huge Expectations

Center Joel Embiid reached superstar status last season. He averaged 22.9 points and 11 rebounds last season. He has made it no secret that he wants to be league MVP this season.

Philadelphia coach Brett Brown tried to temper those expectations. Brown is only interested in Embiid being "Most Valuable Person" on that team. The franchise looks to reach the 50-win mark in consecutive seasons for the first time since the Dr. J era.

The 76ers rolled off seven straight such campaigns (1979-86) when Julius Erving was gracing the uniform. Point guard Ben Simmons looks to build off his Rookie of the Year campaign in which he averaged 15.8 points, 8.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds.

The Sixers went 52-30 last season.

76ers SG JJ Redick made 193 3-pointers last season to narrowly miss making 200 for a fourth straight campaign.

Hayward is Back and ready for Celtics NBA Season Opener

Hayward badly broke his lower left leg in last year's season opener. He'll be paced early in the campaign but the hope is he'll eventually find his former All-Star form from the 2016-17 season with the Utah Jazz.

Hayward and Irving will be complemented by some impressive young players. Jayson Tatum averaged 13.9 points last season. Shooting guard Jaylen Brown averaged 14.5ppg. Veteran big man Al Horford added 12.9 points and 7.4 rebounds.

The Celtics won 14 of the past 16 regular-season meetings.

Boston PG Terry Rozier returns to a backup role with Irving healthy. He averaged 19 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists in the playoff series against Philadelphia.

ALCS Preview and Pick: Red Sox vs Astros

ALCS of MLB Playoffs

MLB Odds: Game 3 of ALCS in Houston

With this best-of-seven ALCS now tied at one game apiece, the baseball heads to Houston on Tuesday for Game 3. The Astros were able to steal the first game on the road with an impressive 7-2 victory over Boston’s Ace, Chis Sale.

The Red Sox were able to bounce back in Game 2 to secure a split in the first two games. Pressure continues to be on Boston to steal a game back from the Astros at Minute Maid Park.

TV: 5:09 p.m. ET, TBS

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Nathan Eovaldi (1-0,1.29 ERA) vs. Astros LH Dallas Keuchel (0-0, 3.60)

Odds: Astros are -122-moneyline favorites. The total is at 8.5 Under -120.

ALCS has Been as Expected

Sunday night marked the first loss of the Houston Astros’ postseason. They failed to mount a comeback and ultimately fell 7-5 at Fenway Park. That loss was the result of a clutch bases-loaded double by center-fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.

At the time, the Red Sox were trailing by two runs, but with one swing of the bat, Bradley Jr. put Boston up for good.

Houston hung around the entire game, as Garret Cole pitched six innings. He held the Astros close into the late innings. Ultimately, the Red Sox bullpen refused to let the lead slip away despite a ninth inning push by the Astros.

Mookie Betts scored a pair of runs and drove in another in Sunday's 7-5 triumph. Boston's offense which led the majors in batting average and runs scored during the regular season, woke up after a quiet Game 1.

Good Pitching Matchup in Game 3

Eovaldi owns the only quality start among Boston pitchers in the postseason. He dominated the New York Yankees in Game 3 of the AL Division Series. The 28-year-old scattered one run and five hits over seven innings while striking out five and not walking a batter.

Eovaldi started at Houston as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays on June 20. He was knocked around for four runs on seven hits. Four solo homers in six innings was his dismantling to suffer the loss.

Keuchel surrendered two runs and four hits in five innings at Cleveland in Game 3 of the ALDS. He did not factor in the decision in a game the Astros went onto win 11-3.

The former Cy Young Award winner won his lone start against Boston in the 2017 ALDS. He was not sharp against the Red Sox on Sept. 9. He was knocked around for five runs and nine hits in six frames.

Keuchel posted a 4-6 record with a 3.90 ERA in 16 home starts during the regular season.

This and That and ALCS Pick

The Astros have homered in a postseason-record 14 consecutive games.

Chris Sale, of the Red Sox, was hospitalized Sunday because of a stomach ailment and did not travel with the team. He is expected to make his Game 5 start.

Houston OF George Springer went 2-for-5 in Game 2. He extended his postseason hitting streak to a franchise-record 11 straight games.

Weekend Sports Betting Action - West Virginia vs. Iowa State

West Virginia Sports Betting

By: The Frisco Kid

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Iowa State Cyclones Sports Betting

This weekend is jam-packed and loaded with great sports betting options. There is no reason to miss out on the opportunity to make a lot of money. Here is the intention. We want to steer you in the right direction.

It is not necessarily to give you a winner or loser against the point spread, but to steer you in the direction of value.

MLB Playoffs Meets NFL Meets NCAA Football - Mix and Match Parlays for Huge profits

When you have money on a game there is one thing that you really want out of that event. Sure you want to win and that goes without saying. There is something else just as important. You never want to be “out of it”. You know what we mean here.

You know those games that you bet and about 2 minutes after the kickoff you realize what a bad decision it was to bet the game! That game you bet on and the score is 38-14 at half time. You laid -6.5 on the losing team!

That’s when you know, you are “out of it”. You may as well chalk it up and start looking for a new game to bet on. The number one thing that you want, is to always be in the game. You want a fighting chance.

Value is Key in Sports Betting

Handicappers and Sports Forums - Wise Guys Use Them

The key for this weekend is to make sure you have all of the bases covered. Especially when it comes to your online bookie situation. Do you have the deposits in? Did you get a great bonus? What about a free entry into any contest they may be running at the time?

Take advantage of these things and you will be the winner in the end. There is no reason to not take part in a great contest. You should be rewarded for the money you spend. Make the bookies pay something no matter if you win or lose the games you bet on.

Never walk away empty handed.

Now to Sports Betting the Game of the Week

West Virginia vs. Iowa State

This game brings us a classic Big 12 matchup that is sure to be a great contest. West Virginia is averaging over 41.4 points per game and giving up just over 18 ppg. The team has found it’s niche on defense and they are stingy.

The offense has also found it’s niche in a very big way. The reason for this is Will Grier. This kid is the real deal and with close to 1900 yards on the season, he is for sure a front runner for the Heisman Trophy.

Grier has a big arm and he has proven it time and again this season. He has 21 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions. Grier has a keen eye for detail and he will be a fantastic pro. West Virginia is lucky to have this kid, he is really that special.

Pay Per Heads – Quality Matters Cutting Corners Kills Profits

Can the Cyclones Continue to Hang with Teams?

Iowa State looks like the 1985 Chicago Bears at times. At times they look like the 2017 Cleveland Browns! They are an odd team indeed. Yet they have picked up some reasonably big wins, such as Oklahoma State.

In reality, they have never looked like that great Bears team although they did hold Iowa to just 13. They only managed to score 3 points themselves in a terrible loss to an unranked team.

They also held TCU to 17 but lost that one in a 17-14 final.

The Oklahoma State game was their best offensive performance to date. They had 48 points and a 48-42 win. This game has the earmarks of an over the total outcome.

The line is set in this one at West Virginia -6 -110 and O/U 57 ½ -110. Get your best bet in and have fun. If this one is a barn-burner, it could be close.

TCU hosts Texas Tech in Key Thursday Night Matchup

TCU College Football

TCU and Texas Tech Fighting for Big-12 Lives

The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the TCU Horned Frogs battle at Amon Carter Stadium on Thursday Night. This is a key Big-12 matchup for both these teams. ESPN will televise this primetime matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm EST.

Oddsmakers have the Horned Frogs as 7.5-point favorites. The total is 58.5.

Both teams are 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.

TCU is not giving its fans much reason for optimism lately. The Horned Frogs continue a three-game homestand Thursday and hope to break out of these doldrums.

The Horned Frogs were ranked 14th before losing back-to-back games to No. 3 Ohio State and No. 14 Texas last month. Then they narrowly escaped Iowa State their last time out.

They needed a field goal with 37 seconds remaining to avoid a three-game skid. Now they face a Red Raiders team that is playing well of late.

Texas Tech Will be up for This Showdown

Texas Tech won three straight games in September. Then they gave No. 6 West Virginia all it could handle in a 42-34 defeat to close out the month.

The Red Raiders played the second half of that contest without quarterback Alan Bowman. He had a partially collapsed lung) and is expected to play tonight.

The Red Raiders lead the nation in total offense at 591.4 yards per game. They rank eighth in scoring offense at 48.4 points a game as well. Bowman, who is a freshman, threw for 605 yards and five touchdowns against Houston on Sept. 15.

He is completing nearly 70 percent of his passes for 1,680 yards with a amazing 11-to-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

The team has 18 rushing touchdowns as well this season. They have seven from leading rusher Ta'Zhawn Henry. QB Jett Duffey - who relieved Bowman at quarterback last week - is averaging 8.0 yards per carry on 21 attempts.

Texas Tech WR Antoine Wesley leads the Big 12 with 124.2 receiving yards per game.

TCU Looks to win 9th Straight Home Game

TCU failed to reach 300 total yards of offense against Iowa State. They also committed three turnovers, but still prevailed in the matchup.  They Horned Frogs had an amazing 13-of-22 conversion rate on third and fourth downs. Combined with a strong defensive effort they pulled it out.

Shawn Robinson is expected to play after he suffered a shoulder injury late in the Cyclones game. He has surpassed 200 yards passing only once in five games this season.

Darius Anderson has 316 yards and is the team's leading rusher. That is despite a poor two-game stretch where he had 24 carries for 57 yards.

TCU has won three of the last four meetings, including a 27-3 rout a season ago.

The Horned Frogs are looking to win their ninth straight home game.

PREDICTION: TCU 39, Texas Tech 37

Thursday Night Football: Giants Host the Eagles

New York Giants

Eagles and Giants Look to Find Identities

The Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants battle on Thursday Night Football. The fans at MetLife Stadium will see a NFC East division clash starting at 8:20 pm EST. FOX will have the telecast, along with the NFL Network.

Oddsmakers opened the Eagles as -2.5-point favorites versus the Giants, while the game's total opened at 45. Philadelphia is now a 1-point favorite. The total is down to 44.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles, hardly have the look of a contender. Especially not one of the teams to beat through the first five weeks of the season. They are Coming off back-to-back losses for the first time since 2016.

The Eagles Lost a heart-breaking 23-21 contest in a rematch of the NFC Championship game this past Sunday. They are 2-3 on the NFL season.

The short turnaround could also help the reeling Giants. They are dealing with drama off the field courtesy of comments by star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

They are also trying to erase the memory of Sunday's crushing 33-31 loss at Carolina on a 63-yard field goal. They are 1-4 on the season.

Eagles Have to Get Offense in Gear

Philadelphia's offense has been struggling and has yet to put up more than 23 points in a game. They received a jarring blow Monday when starting running back Jay Ajayi was lost for the season due to a torn ACL.

While trade reports swirl in Philly, the Eagles will likely use the tandem of Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement again at RB. New York has a defense that ranks 27th against the run.

Philadelphia could also go the aerial route with Carson Wentz playing himself back in shape. He will be targeting Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and tight end Zach Ertz. Ertz has a team-leading 41 receptions.

Philadelphia has the league's No. 2-ranked rushing defense, surrendering 66.4 yards per game.

Philadelphia has won three straight and four of five in the series but each game was decided by five points or fewer.

Wentz has 11 touchdown passes and two interceptions in his past five division matchups.

Giants Need to Just Play Better

The Bloomin' Onion Haired Beckham had his best game Sunday. He found the end zone for the first time while hauling in eight receptions for 131 yards. It was his third 100-yard effort of the season. He also threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to rookie running back Saquon Barkley.

Tonight Barkley can make history. He can become the second player in league history to account for at least 100 yards from scrimmage in the first six games of his career.

Manning threw for a season-high 326 yards at last week. He also had a season high with 434 yards passing in a 34-29 loss to Philadelphia in December.

Linebacker Olivier Vernon could make his season debut Thursday for a defense that has a league-low 6.0 sacks.

PREDICTION: Eagles 24, Giants 23

South Florida Bulls vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane Preview and Pick

Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sports

No. 23 South Florida Bulls vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane College Football Preview

The No. 23 South Florida Bulls try to stay unbeaten when they visit the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Friday night.

Friday, October 12 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN

Chapman Stadium

Odds: South Florida is a 7-point favorite and the total is at 61.5.

Odds and News

South Florida Bulls

Jordan Cronkrite had 302 rushing yards and three touchdowns to help South Florida beat UMass 58-42 last Saturday. They improved to 5-0 for the second straight season.

Blake Barnett completed 17 of 24 passes for 209 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception. Tyre McCants had four receptions for 81 yards and one touchdown.

The Bulls are averaging 274.0 passing yards (31st in the nation) and 213.4 rushing yards (32nd). South Florida ranks 32nd with 37.2 points per game and 60th with 25.2 points against.

Blake Barnett has passed for 1308 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Jordan Cronkrite has 606 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 69 carries. Randall St. Felix has 21 receptions for 351 yards and one touchdown.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane

Tulsa had a 26-17 lead over Houston early in the fourth quarter but the Cougars scored 17 points in 91 seconds. That capped off a 24-0 run and won the game 41-26 last Thursday.

Seth Boomer completed 13 of 31 passes for 227 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Corey Taylor II rushed for 152 yards and one touchdown on 33 carries. Keenen Johnson caught five passes for 91 yards and one touchdown but Tulsa let Houston ran for 312 yards.

The Golden Hurricane are averaging 190.8 passing yards (103rd in the nation) and 206.8 rushing yards (37th). Tulsa ranks 104th with 24.4 points per game and 92nd with 31.2 points against.

Luke Skipper has passed for 716 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions. Corey Taylor II has 411 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 92 carries. Keenen Johnson has 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns.

College Football Trends:

The South Florida Bulls are:

8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record

8-2 ATS in their last 10 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game

7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a losing home record

The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are:

0-4 ATS in their last four home games

0-5 ATS in their last five games following an ATS win

0-4 ATS in their last four games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game

Tulsa played a perfect game against Houston for three quarters. Can they generate a similar effort against another high-powered offense like South Florida? Will Tulsa have an answer for Jordan Cronkrite, since they allow 209.2 rushing yards per game?

There's also too much uncertainty at quarterback. Tulsa after freshman Seth Boomer sent sophomore Luke Skipper to the bench. That leaves the defense as their only chance of pulling off the upset. They give up 31.2 points per game so may be unlikely.

Capitals Host Golden Knights in Stanley Cup Rematch

Washington Capitals

Capitals Catch Vegas at end of Long Road Trip

The Vegas Golden Knights and the Washington Capitals meet at Capital One Arena on Wednesday. This is a rematch of last years Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knights are off to a slow start to the year so far. You can catch all the action on NBC Sports Network at 8 pm EST.

Oddsmakers opened the Capitals as -140-moneyline favorites versus the Golden Knights, while the game's total opened at 5.5. The line has held steady, but the total is up to 6 Under -120.

Marc-Andre Fleury has three Stanley Cup rings in his career. An inability to win a fourth in June has the normally laid-back goaltender seeking payback. Fleury aims to exact a bit of revenge on Wednesday after a slow start to the new campaign.

Fleury yielded 20 goals of 136 shots (.853 save percentage) as the Golden Knights fell to the Capitals in five games last summer.

Washington has had plenty of time to cool its jets after opening the season with a 7-0 romp of Boston last Wednesday. They then dropped a wild 7-6 overtime decision to rival Pittsburgh the following night.

Vegas Need Offensive Production Against Capitals

Vegas is 1-2 to start the young season. The offense isn't breaking the bank as the club has mustered just five goals in three games this season.

Jonathan Marchessault doubled his point total by scoring and setting up a goal against the Sabres. He looks to provide more offense after notching just three assists during the Stanley Cup Finals.

Fellow center William Karlsson followed up a promising start to the Finals by being held off the score-sheet for the final three contests. That drought has continued as the Swede has yet to score a goal. He led the team in both tallies (43) and points (78) last season.

Fleury has to better in the net. His save percentage dropped to .841 following Vegas' 4-2 setback to Buffalo at KeyBank Center. He put up a career-best totals in goals-against average (2.24) and save percentage (.927) during the season.

Vegas is 0-for-8 with the man advantage this season. They finished with the 11th-ranked power play (21.4 percent) in 2017-18.

Capitals Off to Good Start

T.J. Oshie has started the season with a flourish by recording a goal and an assist in the opener. He also scored 21 seconds apart in the third period to cap a three-point performance versus the Penguins.

Three-time Hart Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin scored in both contests this season. That increases his career total to 609 goals. It puts him one shy of "The Golden Jet" Bobby Hull for 17th in NHL history.

Ovechkin wasn't shy against Vegas on the league's grand stage in June. He collected three goals and two assists en route to wrapping up Conn Smythe Trophy honors.

Russian countryman Evgeny Kuznetsov erupted for eight points (one goal, seven assists) in the Stanley Cup Finals. He picked up where he left off this season, scoring twice versus the Bruins before setting up a goal against the Penguins.

Washington is a blistering 4-for-8 with the man advantage.

Arkansas State Red Wolves Host the Appalachian State Mountaineers

Arkansas State Red Wolves Athletics

Arkansas State Needs Win in Key Sun Belt Conference Game

The Appalachian State Mountaineers and the Arkansas State Red Wolves meet on National Television on Tuesday. Centennial Bank Stadium will host the Sun Belt Conference matchup.  ESPN2 will have the telecast at 8:00 pm EST.

Oddsmakers have the Mountaineers as a 10-point favorite. The total is down to 59 after opening at 60.5.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers are riding high right now. They are starting to gather some support in the national polls and want to look good on national television.

This past week they received 38 points in the Coaches' poll (29th highest total) and eleven voting points in the Associated Press poll.

Statistically speaking, they're very impressive. Even when stepping up in competition they have punched with some authority.

The Arkansas State Red Wolves have not done as well as expected. Especially with the caliber of quarterback they have on hand.

Appalachian State Looks to Stay Perfect in Sun Belt Play

The Mountaineers gave Penn State a heart attack in the season opener, losing 45-38 in overtime. Appalachian State has prospered by going 3-1 straight up and 4-0 against the spread. They have swept through its last three opponents with ease.

The Mountaineers have held each of them to single-digit point totals. That's the first time that has happened in 20 years. As far as average margin between yards gained and yards allowed, App State is tops in the nation. They have the second-best scoring margin.

Quarterback Zac Thomas is a 6-1 sophomore and has been pretty close to perfect. He is ranked ninth in the nation in passing efficiency with 10.54 yards per attempt. That is fourth best. The Mountaineers have averaged 6.5 yards per carry, which is also among the top five in the country.

Special teams have indeed been special and has delivered a score on a blocked punt recovery, kickoff and punt return. They are the only program in the country to have achieved that trifecta. The team is Currently averaging 51.8 points per game.

They are among the top dozen teams in FBS football in both rushing defense and pass efficiency defense.  What is scary is that they are a young team. Among the nation's 130 FBS teams, only Illinois and Coastal Carolina have a higher percentage of underclassmen on their roster.

Their last game was ten days ago, a 52-7 win over South Alabama.

Arkansas State Has to Play Better

Arkansas State's last outing was rather  disappointing. They lost 28-21 to Georgia Southern. They allowed the Eagles to ramble for 409 yards, despite only one pass completion.

The defense could not stiffen up with the game on the line. They allowed a 47-yard touchdown run with just 19 seconds to go.

Quarterback Justice Hansen is as skilled as it gets in the Sun Belt Conference, has thrown for at least one touchdown in 21 of his last 22 games.

Arkansas State is 3-2 SU and 1-4 ATS. BUT these games taking place on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday is a different story. The Red Wolves have won 15 of their last 18 in that situation.

ASU's punter is definitely a weapon. Cody Grace has had only 11% of his punts returned since his collegiate career began. Only ONE of them has been a touch-back. So he is the reason the Red Wolves are #1 in the nation in the category of Punt Return Defense.

No other team in the country has won five conference titles in the last seven years. This Tuesday night game has some significance, as Appalachian State looks very much like the class of the Sun Belt at the moment.

PREDICTION: Appalachian State 35, Arkansas State 21
