Las Vegas Invitational: UNC Tar Heels vs UCLA Bruins

Las Vegas Invitational

Tar Heels and Bruins Battle it Out in 3rd Place Game

Two of college basketball's blue bloods came to the 2018 Las Vegas Invitational set on winning a holiday tournament trophy. Well, that didn't happen. The 7th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels will battle the 17th-ranked UCLA Bruins. They will be playing for third place on Friday at the Orleans Arena.

TV: 4 p.m. ET, FOX

Line: North Carolina -10; O/U: 169.5.

The Tar Heels were bitch-slapped by unranked Texas 92-89, while UCLA was slammed by No. 11 Michigan State 87-67 in Thursday's semifinals.

Both teams now must make a quick turnaround, as well as some adjustments, to avoid an 0-2 trip to Sin City.

"Bottom line is, Texas played much better than we did," North Carolina coach Roy Williams told the newsobserver.com afterward. "Played much more aggressive than we did. Points off turnovers, 31 to 19, that's something we can't have. Fast break points, North Carolina gets two points on the fast break. We can't play like that."

At least North Carolina had a chance to tie it at the end. UCLA trailed 51-22 late in the first half, never was really in the game.

One very bright spot for the 5-1 Tar Heels was the play of freshman guard Coby White. He scored 33 points  recorded three assists. White was 7-of-10 shooting on 3-pointers as well. White's 33 points were the most by a North Carolina freshman since Harrison Barnes scored 40 in a game in 2011.

Senior guard Cameron Johnson scored 16 points. Returning All-ACC First Team pick Luke Maye, who had a potential game-tying shot go in-and-out with 33.9 seconds remaining, finished with 11 and nine rebounds.

The 4-1 Bruins were out-muscled badly by a veteran and physical Michigan State squad. They shot a dismal 35.6 percent. Prize 7-1 freshman center Moses Brown was held scoreless in the first half and finished with just five points and 10 rebounds. He came into the contest averaging 17.3 points and 12 rebounds.

PREDICTION: North Carolina 91, UCLA 85

Cowboys Host Redskins on Thanksgiving Football

Dallas Cowboys Football

Cowboys in Action in their Traditional Thanksgiving NFL Action

After a critical turn of events in Week 11, the Dallas Cowboys will have the opportunity to pull even with the NFC East-leading Washington Redskins. The Cowboys (5-5) resurrected their seemingly lost season with an important victory over the Atlanta Falcons last week to give themselves a chance at first place in the division.

TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, CBS.

TV: 4:30 p.m. ET, FOX.

LINE: Cowboys -7.5. O/U: 40.5

Dallas’ cause was helped by a Week 11 loss by the Redskins, as they dropped a late fourth-quarter lead to the Houston Texans. Not only did Washington lose the game, they also lost their starting QB Alex Smith for the season.

In what has been a strength of the team all season, the Cowboys’ defense showed up big time in Week 11 against the Falcons. Demarcus Lawrence was a man possessed, registering 1.5 sacks, while last week’s Defensive Player of the Week, LB Leighton Vander Esch, turned in another huge performance with a game-changing interception in the fourth quarter. That solid D allowed Dak Prescott to manage the game to victory.

Washington has already defeated the Cowboys this regular season in a 20-17 victory in Week 7. But after losing two of their last three games, they’ve allowed Dallas to climb back into the NFC East race. Combined with the fact that the Redskins will now be faced with playing the rest of the season without Alex Smith, the dramatics of a Dallas-Washington matchup will be on full display for Thanksgiving football.

Ezekiel Elliott joined Eric Dickerson and Edgerrin James as the only players with at least 4,500 scrimmage yards and 30 TDs in his first 35 games.

Redskins TE Jordan Reed has a season high-tying seven catches last week and 10 receptions for two scores in his last game at Dallas.

Cowboys DE Demarcus Lawrence has 3.0 sacks and six tackles for loss in the last three meetings versus Washington.

PREDICTION: Cowboys 23, Redskins 19

Maui Invitational: Gonzaga Bulldogs vs Duke Blue Devils

2018 Maui Invitational

College Basketball Powerhouses Square Off in Finals

The Duke Blue Devils and the Gonzaga Bulldogs will on Wednesday when they meet at Lahaina Civic Center. They are playing in the 2018 Maui Jim Maui Invitational Finals. Duke is going for their 7th tournament championship.

TV: 5 p.m. ET, ESPN

LINE: Duke -7; O/U: 164

Duke's freshman class that includes future NBA lottery picks R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish has drawn comparisons to Michigan's famed Fab Five for its talent. It was unheralded junior center Marques Bolden who stole the spotlight in a 78-72 semifinal victory over No. 8 Auburn. His play was instrumental in moving the top-ranked Blue Devils into Wednesday's dream championship game matchup with No. 3 Gonzaga in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

The 6-11 Bolden finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots. That included a crucial trio late in the game as Auburn made a run. He made the play of the game when he blocked a shot under his own basket. He then raced down and finished a fast break with a dunk off a lob pass by standout freshman point guard Tre Jones.

"This is the best, by far, that we have protected our basket in a few years," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski told reporters. "I mean for a kid to get seven blocks and change shots in there. ... The defense was exquisite. It was at the highest level. Seven blocks and changing some shots, man, that's a heck of a performance."

The Blue Devils will need another great effort in the title game against Gonzaga. They overcame a slow and sloppy first half to outscore Arizona by 25 points in the second half of a 91-74 victory.

Both Teams are 5-0 on the Season and Playing Quality Basketball

The Blue Devils hadn't been tested in their first four games. It was a span which included a 118-84 blowout of then-No. 2 Kentucky and a 90-64 first-round triumph over Mountain West power San Diego State. They led Auburn by just five points before Reddish nailed a long 3-pointer.

Barrett, rated by some scouting services as the likely No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, finished with 18 points and nine rebounds. He was just 7-for-20 from the floor while Reddish also scored 18 points, including 4-of-10 3-pointers, and Williamson chipped in with 13 and nine boards.

Duke is 18-0 all-time in games played in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

The Zags overcame 10 first-half turnovers and a 13-point deficit with 19 minutes remaining to pull away for an easy double-digit win over Arizona. They shot 53.1 percent in the process.

Sophomore guard Zach Norvell Jr. led the way with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. 6-8 forward Rui Hachimura scored a team-high 24 points and point guard Josh Perkins finished with 18 and nine assists.

6-10 junior F Killian Tillie is considered a potential first round NBA pick. He connected on 13-of-14 3-pointers in last season's WCC tournament, underwent ankle surgery last month and isn't expected back until January.

PREDICTION: Duke 90, Gonzaga 86

2018 Maui Invitational

Maui Invitational Proves Again to be King of Thanksgiving Tournaments

The fans at Lahaina Civic Center will see the Arizona Wildcats and the 3rd-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs in the 2018 Maui Invitational semifinals. These college powerhouses should put on a very good show for the fans in Hawaii tonight.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN

LINE: Gonzaga -10; O/U: 155.

Replacing five starters has gone far better than expected for Arizona, so far. They improved to 4-0 with Monday's 71-66 win over Iowa State in a first-round matchup at the Maui Invitational. The Wildcats take another step up in competition Tuesday in a semifinal game against No. 3 Gonzaga. The Zags opened tournament play with an 84-78 win over Illinois.

Guard Justin Coleman scored a team-high 18 points for Arizona. They averaged 83.7 points in wins over Houston Baptist, Cal Poly and UTEP before grinding out a comeback victory over Iowa State.

"I'm just proud of our guys. I feel like today just showed how we loved each other as brothers," Coleman told reporters. "It just shows the connection we have as a team because we got out-rebounded, we got down 10, but it showed the effort and the togetherness we had through adversity to get back and win the game."

The Wildcats face their toughest test of the young season against Gonzaga. The Zags barely survived a late scare from Illinois behind 23 points from preseason All-American Rui Hachimura. The 6-8 combo forward is helping Gonzaga adjust without star forward Killian Tillie. He will likely miss most of the non-conference season with an ankle injury.

Gonzaga and Arizona Get Tested Early

The 4-0 Wildcats have Duke transfer Chase Jeter. He continued to impress with 10 points and 12 rebounds against Iowa State. 6-9 forward Ryan Luther made two key free throws late in the game and finished with 12 points and eight boards.

Freshman guard Brandon Williams missed nine of his 11 field-goal attempts but scored 14 point.s He has 20 assists and only two turnovers through his first four games.

Guard Dylan Smith was a key reserve as a sophomore last season. He has struggled early on, averaging 4.5 points on 5-of-20 shooting. That includes 4-of-13 from downtown.

Arizona holds a 6-2 lead in the all-time series - including a 69-62 victory in Tucson on Dec. 3, 2016.

The 4-0 Zags struggled against Illinois' pressure. They committed 22 turnovers but remained unbeaten after shooting 52.9 percent.

Guard Zach Norvell Jr. entered the tournament averaging 17.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. He finished with 15 points against the Illini. Forward Jeremy Jones added 14 and 11 rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench.

MNF: Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles Rams

Chiefs and Rams Meet in Most Anticipated Game of Recent Memory

The Los Angeles Rams saw their perfect record come to an end two weeks ago in New Orleans. It was a marquee showdown between the two highest-scoring teams in the NFC. Another high-octane matchup is on tap for the Rams tonight. They will face a test against the best team in the AFC. Quarterback Pat Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs pay them a visit to be played out on Monday Night Football.

This is the game in the NFL with the highest Over/Under in sports betting history.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE: Rams -3. O/U: 63

The teams were originally scheduled to be played in Mexico City. Poor field conditions caused the change as players from both teams were lining up to boycott and not play. They were afraid of major injuries.

Both teams have identical 9-1 records. This marks only the fifth time since the 1970 merger that two clubs squared off in Week 11 with fewer than two losses each.

"It's fun if you're watching as a football fan; it's not fun when you're watching it getting ready to play them," Los Angeles coach Sean McVay told reporters of facing Kansas City, which is averaging 35.3 points and features the league's passing yards leader in Mahomes.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid understands the challenge of trying to match up with the Rams. The Rams have league-leading rusher Todd Gurley and quarterback Jared Goff, who is second to Mahomes in passing yards.

"You have to be disciplined," Reid told reporters. "They're a disciplined offense, so you have to be disciplined from a defensive standpoint. Then practice that way and then you go play."

Gurley and Hunt are the only two running backs with more than 2,000 rushing yards since the start of the 2017 season.

Chiefs and Rams are Offensive Juggernauts and Boast Very Good Defenses

The Chiefs Mahomes had his streak of eight straight 300-yard performances halted in last week's 26-14 win over Arizona. He did throw a pair of scoring passes to give him the franchise's single-season record of 31 in only week 10. He only has seven interceptions.

Mahomes has thrown 18 TD passes and three interceptions for a passer rating of 125.9 in five road games this season.

Mahomes has a bevy of weapons at his disposal that includes game-breaking wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who has nine touchdowns, and tight end Travis Kelce. Kelce leads the team with 57 catches to go along with six scores.

Running back Kareem Hunt also is a dangerous double threat. He has 13 total TD's on 754 yards rushing and 23 receptions.

Kansas City ranks 29th overall in defense with an average of 410.7 yards allowed but is tied for second in the league in sacks with 31.

The Rams Gurley is the NFL's runaway leader in both rushing and touchdowns. He needs only 12 yards to reach 1,000 and has scored 17 times. That is two shy of his total from last year. The University of Georgia product is really coming into his own.

Goff has 22 scoring passes versus six interceptions. He has four straight games with a passer rating of at least 111.0. Goff has amassed 1,015 passing yards with seven scores and one interception in his last three home contests.

Cooper Kupp had a team-high six touchdown receptions before he was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks have 55 and 51 catches, respectively. They have three scores apiece.

Los Angeles features the league's sacks leader in star defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who has 12.5. The defense only yields only 233.1 passing yards per game. The Saints did put up 346 on them.

PREDICTION: Rams 42, Chiefs 34,

Sunday Night Football: Vikings vs Bears

Chicago Bears

NFC North Divisional Showdown on Sunday Night Football

Sunday Night Football features the The Chicago Bears against the Minnesota Vikings. This is a key game for both teams.

The Bears rise from mediocrity continued in Week 10 with a dominant victory over the Detroit Lions. While the Lions are certainly not in the upper echelon of the league, the Bears showed that their team is a threat on both sides of the ball.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are coming off of a Bye Week and will look to field a healthier team than they’ve had in weeks as they attempt to regain their divisional lead.

First place in the NFC North The Vikings have won four of their last five games after getting past the Detroit Lions 24-9 two Sundays ago and then enjoying a bye week to watch the Bears defeat the Lions 34-22.

TV: 8:20 p.m. ET, NBC.

LINE: Bears -2.5. O/U: 453.5

The Bears are riding a 3-game winning streak and unsurprisingly, Chicago’s defense has been at the center of that success. They’ve allowed an average of just 13 points per game over that span and now sit in fourth in the NFL in points allowed per game (19.4). Led by LB Khalil Mack, who drives the Bears’ defense with 7 sacks on the season, Chicago has found success with a focus on defense.

Mack returned from a two-game absence last week to record two sacks, giving him a team-leading seven.

Minnesota comes into Chicago a rested and hopefully healthier team. Minnesota has been missing several starters, including WR Stefon Diggs, over the past weeks and welcomed the week off. Starting this Sunday, the Vikes face NFC North divisional teams in four of their remaining seven games, so they’ll need to find their stride if they hope to hold on to a playoff spot. Sunday’s game will go a long way in affirming their stance atop the division.

DE Danielle Hunter had 3.5 sacks against the Lions and enters Week 11 ranked second in the NFL with 11.5.

PREDICTION: Bears 23, Vikings 17
