Wooden Legacy: Miami Hurricanes vs Seton Hall Pirates

2018 Wooden Legacy

Hurricanes and Pirates Look to Enter Holidays on Win Streak

The fans at Titan Gym will be treated see the Miami Hurricanes and the Seton Hall Pirates on Sunday Night in the Championship Game of the 2018 Wooden Legacy. The Hurricanes have played well to start the season but Seton Hall is still trying to find itself.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2

LINE: Miami -5; O/U: 141.

Myles Powell has carried Seton Hall and the offense on his shoulders all month long. The high-scoring guard may more help from his teammates if the squad hopes to take down the Hurricanes.

Miami hopes to corral the nation's seventh-leading scorer and move to 6-0 for the second straight season. They take on their former Big East rival in Fullerton, Calif.

The Pirates edged Grand Canyon in Thursday's opening round behind a career-high 40 points from Powell. He tied James Harden's single-game tournament record in a non-overtime game for Arizona State in 2008.

Seton Hall's newest 1,000-point scorer was held mostly in check with only 19 points, which is 6.8 below his season average, against Hawaii. A stingy defensive effort held the Warriors more than 25 below their season average in a 64-54 win.

Miami made their way into the title game earlier in the day. They advanced with a put-back dunk from Zach Johnson with two-tenths of a second remaining to hold off Fresno State 78-76.

The Pirates haven't received more than Michael Nzei's 16 points on Friday from any other player this season. Johnson's 24-point effort made him the fourth different Miami player to score 20 at least once.

Miami and Seton Hall a Tale of Two Teams on Offense

Miami is 5-0 on the new season.

Coach Jim Larranaga credited Johnson's size (6-2) and well-rounded play as key reasons why his team was able to advance in the tournament.

"I look at it like we have seven starters," he told reporters. "Zach is bigger and stronger against their press and can see a bit better over it. ... The defense collapsed to stop him from scoring at a high rate, but what makes a guy really good is if he can make his teammates better, and he did that."

Chris Lykes  has a team-high 19.6 points and  2.4 steals a game. He leads four other Miami players averaging at least 11.4 points. Lykes has recorded at least 17 and two steals in every contest thus far.

Johnson is the first Miami reserve to score 24 or more points in at least nine seasons.

Seton Hall is 3-2 on the season.

Powell is averaging 25.8 points per game and is responsible for 36.2 percent of the team's scoring. He is the only player from a major conference shooting at least 50 percent while averaging at least 25 points entering Saturday.

Powell was the 44th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points on Friday.

No other Pirate scores more than 9.2 points per game. Nzei and sophomore Myles Cale, who had 10 points, recorded season-high point totals on Friday.

Sandro Mamukelashvili averages 7.8 points and  8.2 rebounds per game. He continues to flirt with double-doubles, although he has yet to post one. He has grabbed at least seven rebounds in each of his last four contests.

Syracuse transfer and fellow sophomore Taurean Thompson is averaging 10 points at this event after totaling nine in his first three games.

PREDICTION: Miami 81, Seton Hall 68

NFL Week 12 Free Betting Pick- Giants vs Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles Football

Giants and Eagles in Must Win Mode

Week twelve of the season is filled with NFL rivalry games. One of those is the 3-7 New York Giants and the 4-6 Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants head down I-95 for a NFC East tilt with playoff implications. The game is a 1 p.m. start at Lincoln Financial Field on FOX.

The Eagles are listed as 4.5-point favorites and the total line has been set at 48.5 points.

The Giants have been able to string together a pair of straight-up victories. They were against San Francisco on the road and Tampa Bay at home. The total went OVER 54 points in Sunday’s 38-35 win against the Buccaneers. The game that ended as a PUSH.

The score has now gone OVER BetAnySports’ closing line in four of New York’s last six games. The Giants are 4-5-1 against the spread overall, but they have covered in four of five road games this season.

This will be the second meeting this season for these teams. The Giants found themselves on the wrong end of a 34-13 loss to Philadelphia at home on Oct. 11 as 1.5-point underdogs. Veteran NFL quarterback Eli Manning came under fire for his play in that first meeting.

Manning was able to complete 17 of his 18 passing attempts against Tampa Bay on Sunday for 231 yards and two touchdown throws. Rookie running back Saquon Barkley added another 142 yards and two scores on the ground on 27 rushing attempts.

Eagles Have had Disappointing Season So Far

Philadelphia’s disappointing Super Bowl title defense went from bad to worse. Sunday’s 48-7 no-show against New Orleans was the low point of the season. They were listed as a seven-point road underdog.

The Eagles’ slipped to 4-6 SU with a 3-7 record ATS. They are 1-4 ATS at home this season and 2-6 ATS when closing as favorites. The total stayed UNDER 56.5 points in Sunday’s loss and it has stayed UNDER in three of their last four games.

The Eagles had been competitive in their first nine games this season win or lose. The multiple issues with this year’s squad were fully exposed against the high-powered Saints. Most notably, an offense that cannot sustain drives due to an inconsistent running game. Philadelphia’s defense has some major gaps in the secondary which could pose some issues in this Sunday’s matchup.

Despite the Eagles’ poor play, they are still just two games off the pace in the wide-open NFC East title race. The Giants could be just what they need to get things back on track with a SU win that covers the 4.5-point spread.

Iron Bowl: Auburn Tigers vs Alabama Crimson Tide

The 2018 Iron Bowl

Top-Ranked Alabama primed and Ready for Arch-Rival Auburn

Top-ranked Alabama appears headed toward a College Football Playoff berth, again. They must avoid an upset today when it hosts Auburn in Saturday's Iron Bowl. The defending champion Crimson Tide are again at the top of the CFP poll. The Tide has already sewn up a berth in the SEC title game against Georgia.

TV: 3:30 ET, CBS.

LINE: Alabama -25.5; O/U: 52.5.

The Tigers had a stunning 26-14 victory over Alabama last season. Head Coach Gus Malzahn sees no reason why his club can't pull it off again.

"It's the Iron Bowl," Malzahn said during a press conference. "We don't have to bring anything up. This is a game our guys look forward to, their guys look forward to. When we beat them the last two times, we probably weren't the favorite, so we'll see what happens."

Alabama coach Nick Saban made it clear his players don't need a reminder of what occurred.

"They didn't feel good about last year, and they've had to live with it for 365 days," Saban said at a press conference. "I don't necessarily think that the revenge factor is the best form of motivation out there, but I think it certainly plays into a guy that's a good competitor who wants to come back and do well if he didn't perform well the last time he played someone."

Auburn is 7-4 overall and 3-4 in the SEC.

The Tigers have been solid on defense this season. They are allowing an average of 16.6 points per game. The squad received good news when sophomore defensive end Nick Coe was cleared to play. Coe had a one-game absence due to a wrist injury and he is the team sack leader with 7.5.

Junior quarterback Jarrett Stidham has thrown just 12 touchdown passes while limiting mistakes. He only has four interceptions and was a solid 21-of-28 passing for 237 yards in last season's win over the Crimson Tide.

Redshirt freshman running back JaTarvious Whitlow has 716 yardson the season. He has rushed for just 90 total yards over the past three games since gaining a season-best 170 against Ole Miss.

The undefeated Crimson Tide is 11-0 overall and 7-0 in the SEC.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has 31 touchdown passes going into today's game. He broke the school mark set by AJ McCarron, who had 30 in 2012. Saban is ecstatic over the sophomore's production in his first season as a starter.

"We're pleased with the way Tua has played," Saban told reporters. "I think that any player that you talk about, no one is perfect. I do think that Tua has sort of the mindset of trying to make every throw a good throw, make every read a good read. I think he hopes for that. I think he is a perfectionist to some degree."

The defense is allowing 13.1 points per game and sophomore nose guard Quinnen Williams is enjoying a huge season with a team-leading 15 tackles for loss.

Jazz and Lakers on NBA-TV Friday Night

LA Lakers

Lakers are Red-Hot Going into Jazz Matchup

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers (10-7 SU, 6-11 ATS) are starting to look like contenders. The jury is still out on the Utah Jazz (8-10 SU and  ATS). They’ll lock horns this Friday at Staples Center.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, NBATV, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah), Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles)

Line: Lakers -2.5; O/U: 222.

The Lakers have won six of their last seven games at 4-3 ATS after getting off to a slow start in LeBron’s LA debut. James scored 51 points in his last outing, Sunday’s 113-97 win over his former employers, the Miami Heat (+1.5 at home). However, point guard Rajon Rondo broke his right hand last week and isn’t expected to return until sometime in December after undergoing successful surgery.

Los Angeles C JaVale McGee hit all six of his shots against the Cavaliers and is 22-for-31 over the past four contests.

Utah are fully healthy at this point, but they’ve split their last six games SU and ATS as they continue to struggle at both ends of the court.

Rookie of the Year runner-up Donovan Mitchell isn’t playing at quite the same level as a sophomore, hitting just 29.3% from downtown. Ricky Rubio (a career-low 35.2%) is also having difficulty from long range. As a result, the Jazz have a minus-2.5 point differential on the season, well below the Lakers at plus-1.2.

The Jazz went 3-0 against the Lakers last season and won the past seven meetings.

Utah star SG Donovan Mitchell scored 35 points against the Kings for his third 30-point outing of the campaign.

PREDICTION: Lakers 123, Jazz 107

Maple Leafs and Blue Jackets in Battle of First-Place Teams

Blue Jackets Hockey

It would have been unthinkable not too long ago. It is true, the Toronto Maple Leafs (15-7-0) and Columbus Blue Jackets (12-7-2) are both on top of their respective divisions heading into the American Thanksgiving break. They’ll meet this Friday in what should be an entertaining game at Nationwide Arena.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, TSN4 (Toronto), FS Ohio (Columbus)

Line: Blue Jackets -135; O/U: 6 Under -115.

This will be a rematch of Monday’s game in Toronto, which the Leafs won 4-2 as –145 favorites. They won on a pair of late third-period goals by Zach Hyman.

That’s four wins in a row for Toronto, who find themselves alone atop the Stanley Cup futures market at +400. They are well ahead of the Blue Jackets at +1600. And they’ve done it despite Auston Matthews missing 10 games thus far with an injured left shoulder. He isn’t due back until December.

Monday’s loss snapped Columbus’ win streak at three games. They’re still the top team in the Metropolitan Division. Their superior puck possession stats to Toronto’s.

The Blue Jackets are completely healthy, and they’re getting solid goal-tending from Sergei Bobrovsky, who has .915 save percentage. No. 2 netminder Joonas Korpisalo has a .885 SV%). He has been a disappointment in his fourth year as their back-up plan.

Columbus G Sergei Bobrovsky, who is expected to make his 400th career start on Friday, has allowed 12 goals on 219 shots in seven contests this month.

Toronto is 3-for-21 on the power play in its last eight games.

The Blue Jackets scored six power-play goals in the last seven contests after going 6-for-56 in their first 14 outings.

LINE: Washington State -2.5; O/U: 51

The winner advances to play Utah in the Pac-12 title game. Huskies coach Chris Petersen knows his defense faces a challenge in Washington State senior quarterback Gardner Minshew II. He leads the nation with 36 touchdown passes.

"In terms of his pocket poise and presence, he's got a great feel," Petersen said of the Heisman Trophy candidate in a press conference. "You're going after him, the ball is out. You're not coming after him? He's going to stand in there. You get to him? He's going to get out of the pocket. Really decisive."

This is Minshew's one and only taste of the fierce rivalry. and he didn't disappoint when he was asked about his view of the Huskies.

Huskies are Trying to Salvage Their Season against the Cougars

Washington is 8-3 in the overall and 6-2 in the conference.

The Huskies will try to avoid a shootout with the Cougars behind a stingy defense that allows an average of 16.6 points per game. It has held five opponents to 13 or fewer points.

Senior linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven has been outstanding with 145 tackles. That ranks second nationally. The only Washington player to record more since 1989 is Mason Foster with 163 in 2010.

Senior quarterback Jake Browning has thrown just of 16 of his 94 career touchdowns this season. Senior running back Myles Gaskin is just 94 yards away from becoming the 10th FBS player to record four straight 1,000-yard campaigns.

Browning passed for 242 yards in last weekend's 42-23 win over Oregon State after failing to reach 200 in three straight games.

Washington has won 15 of the last 20 meetings, including a 41-14 romp last season.

Big XII Football: Oklahoma Sooners vs West Virginia Mountaineers

West Virginia Mountaineers

West Virginia Looks to End Oklahoma's College Football Playoff Hopes

The West Virginia Mountaineers are in a foul mood after being upset last week by Oklahoma State. They will be looking to take out some of their frustrations as the Oklahoma Sooners come to Morgantown. West Virginia has yet to beat the Sooners since joining the Big XII in 2012.

This is the de-facto Big XII Championship game.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN.

LINE: Oklahoma -3: O/U: 85.

West Virginia surrendered a go-ahead touchdown with 42 seconds remaining last weekend to drop a 45-41 decision at Oklahoma State. This loss caused the squad to fall into a second-place tie with Texas in the conference standings.

The Mountaineers and Longhorns still control their destiny in regards to the conference title game. A West Virginia victory against the Sooners would forge a three-way tie for first. This is in the likely event Texas beats Kansas earlier in the day. It would send them to Arlington, Tex. due to head-to-head wins over Oklahoma.

The Sooners only need to post their seventh consecutive win over the Mountaineers to assure themselves of a spot in the Big 12 Championship. A win would keep their hopes of receiving a second straight College Football Playoff invitation alive.

Oklahoma is coming off an uninspiring 55-40 home victory over the three-win Jayhawks. They allowed 524 yards to an offense that had not gained more than 368 during conference play.

High Powered offenses the the Sooners and Mountaineers will be on Display

The 6th-ranked Sooners are 10-1 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

Heisman Trophy hopeful Kyler Murray is still on pace to become the first FBS player ever to average at least 300 passing yards and 60 rushing yards for an entire season. This is despite throwing for 272 and rushing for 99 while also accounting for five touchdowns versus the Jayhawks.

After leading rusher Trey Sirmon (851 rushing yards) was injured on his first carry of the game, freshman Kennedy Brooks (811) took over for a second straight week. He ran for a season-high 171 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

Marquise Brown racked up 65 receiving yards against Kansas to push him over 1,000 for the second straight season. His 2,116 receiving yards are the most ever for a Sooner through his first 24 career games.

Oklahoma has won 19 consecutive true road games. That is 11 more than the next-longest active streak in FBS.

West Virginia is 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

Heisman Trophy candidate Will Grier threw for 364 yards versus the Cowboys. That was his school-record 18th career 300-yard passing game. It boosted his career completion total to 484. He passed Oliver Luck (1978-81) for fifth place in program history.

Kennedy McKoy ran for a career-high 148 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. He scored two touchdowns in the second straight game and becoming the third Mountaineer to run for at least 100 yards in a game this season.

Senior receiver David Sills V caught at least one touchdown pass for a sixth straight game. He is tied for second in FBS with a Big-12 best 13 receiving scores. His 33 career TD receptions rank as the third most in school history.

Sills (13) and Gary Jennings Jr. (11) are the only pair of teammates in FBS with at least 10 receiving touchdowns.

PREDICTION: West Virginia 51, Oklahoma 45

Las Vegas Invitational: UNC Tar Heels vs UCLA Bruins

Las Vegas Invitational

Tar Heels and Bruins Battle it Out in 3rd Place Game

Two of college basketball's blue bloods came to the 2018 Las Vegas Invitational set on winning a holiday tournament trophy. Well, that didn't happen. The 7th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels will battle the 17th-ranked UCLA Bruins. They will be playing for third place on Friday at the Orleans Arena.

TV: 4 p.m. ET, FOX

Line: North Carolina -10; O/U: 169.5.

The Tar Heels were bitch-slapped by unranked Texas 92-89, while UCLA was slammed by No. 11 Michigan State 87-67 in Thursday's semifinals.

Both teams now must make a quick turnaround, as well as some adjustments, to avoid an 0-2 trip to Sin City.

"Bottom line is, Texas played much better than we did," North Carolina coach Roy Williams told the newsobserver.com afterward. "Played much more aggressive than we did. Points off turnovers, 31 to 19, that's something we can't have. Fast break points, North Carolina gets two points on the fast break. We can't play like that."

At least North Carolina had a chance to tie it at the end. UCLA trailed 51-22 late in the first half, never was really in the game.

One very bright spot for the 5-1 Tar Heels was the play of freshman guard Coby White. He scored 33 points  recorded three assists. White was 7-of-10 shooting on 3-pointers as well. White's 33 points were the most by a North Carolina freshman since Harrison Barnes scored 40 in a game in 2011.

Senior guard Cameron Johnson scored 16 points. Returning All-ACC First Team pick Luke Maye, who had a potential game-tying shot go in-and-out with 33.9 seconds remaining, finished with 11 and nine rebounds.

The 4-1 Bruins were out-muscled badly by a veteran and physical Michigan State squad. They shot a dismal 35.6 percent. Prize 7-1 freshman center Moses Brown was held scoreless in the first half and finished with just five points and 10 rebounds. He came into the contest averaging 17.3 points and 12 rebounds.

PREDICTION: North Carolina 91, UCLA 85

Cowboys Host Redskins on Thanksgiving Football

Dallas Cowboys Football

Cowboys in Action in their Traditional Thanksgiving NFL Action

After a critical turn of events in Week 11, the Dallas Cowboys will have the opportunity to pull even with the NFC East-leading Washington Redskins. The Cowboys (5-5) resurrected their seemingly lost season with an important victory over the Atlanta Falcons last week to give themselves a chance at first place in the division.

TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, CBS.

TV: 4:30 p.m. ET, FOX.

LINE: Cowboys -7.5. O/U: 40.5

Dallas’ cause was helped by a Week 11 loss by the Redskins, as they dropped a late fourth-quarter lead to the Houston Texans. Not only did Washington lose the game, they also lost their starting QB Alex Smith for the season.

In what has been a strength of the team all season, the Cowboys’ defense showed up big time in Week 11 against the Falcons. Demarcus Lawrence was a man possessed, registering 1.5 sacks, while last week’s Defensive Player of the Week, LB Leighton Vander Esch, turned in another huge performance with a game-changing interception in the fourth quarter. That solid D allowed Dak Prescott to manage the game to victory.

Washington has already defeated the Cowboys this regular season in a 20-17 victory in Week 7. But after losing two of their last three games, they’ve allowed Dallas to climb back into the NFC East race. Combined with the fact that the Redskins will now be faced with playing the rest of the season without Alex Smith, the dramatics of a Dallas-Washington matchup will be on full display for Thanksgiving football.

Ezekiel Elliott joined Eric Dickerson and Edgerrin James as the only players with at least 4,500 scrimmage yards and 30 TDs in his first 35 games.

Redskins TE Jordan Reed has a season high-tying seven catches last week and 10 receptions for two scores in his last game at Dallas.

Cowboys DE Demarcus Lawrence has 3.0 sacks and six tackles for loss in the last three meetings versus Washington.

PREDICTION: Cowboys 23, Redskins 19
