The Denver Nuggets battle the new-look Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night. Both teams are looking to put an end to their losing streaks. The Nuggets and 76ers have lost two straight games, so they're clearly desperate to get the win.

The Nuggets lost consecutive road games against the Pistons and
Nets. D'Angelo Russell finished with 27 points and 11 assists, making six of
Brooklyn's 19 3-pointers to help the Nets overcome the Nuggets 135-130 last
Wednesday.

Nikola Jokic carried the Nuggets with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for his 10th triple-double of the season. Mason Plumlee had a season-high 24 points on 10 of 12 shooting against his former team. Jamal Murray added 19 points and 11 assists after missing six games with a sprained left ankle.

The Denver Nuggets outrebounded the Brooklyn Brooklyn Nets 48-40. They also outscored them 66-50 in the paint but they were just 13 of 35 (37.1 percent) from beyond the arc.  

Tobias Harris makes Sixers debut

After an incredible 113-104 road win against the Warriors, the 76ers lost to the Kings and Raptors. Joel Embiid exploded for 37 points and 13 rebounds for his league-leading 44th double-double. Ben Simmons scored 20 points and Jimmy Butler added 18. The Raptors outrebounded the Sixers 42-34 in Tuesday's 119-107 win. It forced them to turn the ball over 18 times and limiting them to just 7 of 24 (29.2 percent) from 3-point range.

The 76ers traded rookie Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, their 2020 first-round pick, the Heat's 2021 first-round pick and their 2021 and 2023 second-round picks to the Clippers for Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and forward Mike Scott.

Adding Harris gives the Sixers one of the best starting lineups in the NBA. Even before the trade the 76ers were the only team with four players averaging at least 17.0 points per game. With Harris, they have a fifth.

Ennis and Simmons will help add depth to their bench and contribute right away.

AAC Hoops: Cincinnati Bearcats vs Memphis Tigers

Memphis Hosts AAC Co-Leader Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bearcats and the Memphis Tigers will mmet on Thursday at FedEx Forum. American Athletic Conference co-leader Cincinnati entered the rankings for the first time this week at No. 23.

Cincinnati held off a second-half rally from SMU for a 73-68 triumph Saturday to extend its winning streak to seven games. They must be ready against a Memphis squad that is 11-1 on its home court.

Bearcats coach Mick Cronin told reporters his team must embrace the pressure and take care of the ball against the Tigers. Memphis' only loss at home was against No. 1 Tennessee. They have won their last two at FedEx Forum by a total of 42 points. Memphis comes in after two straight losses on the road. They wasted a record 41-point second-half performance from guard Jeremiah Martin in an 84-78 loss at South Florida on Saturday. The loss was because the team scored just 13 in the first 20 minutes.

The Bearcats are 19-3 overall and 8-1 in the AAC. Guard Jarron Cumberland is second in the league in scoring entering Wednesday. He is pouting in 18.7 per game and also leads the Bearcats in assists (3.5) and steals (1.3). Guard Keith Williams is the only other player averaging in double figures scoring (11.0). The team has four others contribute at least eight points per contest. Forward Tre Scott tops the team in rebounds at 6.3 per game. Guard Justin Jenifer averages 8.8 points and takes care of the ball about as good as anyone in the country. His remarkable stats read 71 assists and just 14 turnovers.

The Tigers are 13-9 overall and 5-4 in the AAC. Martin leads the team in scoring at 16.3 ppg. He is the first Tiger to score at least 40 in a game since Marcus Moody scored 41 in 1997. The 6'-3" guard's effort Saturday tied him for the sixth-most in school history. Forward Kyvon Davenport averages 14.4 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds. He is struggling and is just 9-of-29 from the field the last two games.

Canadiens Host the Jets in Thursday NHL Action

All Canadian Matchup in Montreal

The high-flying Winnipeg Jets will be paying a visit to the Bell Centre on Thursday to take on the Montreal Canadiens. Both teams have been hot of late, with each winning three of their last four games. The Habs are coming off of a decisive 4-1 victory over the struggling Anaheim Ducks, while Winnipeg dropped a heart-breaker in overtime to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. This will be a true test for the Canadiens, who have struggled against bigger teams so far this season.

Winnipeg expects D Dustin Byfuglien to return to the lineup Thursday after he missed 15 games with a left ankle injury.

The Canadiens are 30-15-6 on the season. Forward Brendan Gallagher powered the Montreal offense Tuesday. He scored twice to give him a team-high 21 on the season. The Lakers are a mess right now. They've lost three of their last four games and they've dealt with constant rumors involving half of the team getting traded for Anthony Davis. The Celtics, who are also after Davis, are 10-1 in their last 11 games.

LeBron James suffers worst loss of his career

The Lakers are coming off a
tough 136-94 road loss against the Pacers last Tuesday, the worst loss by a
LeBron James-led team in history.

The Pacers never allowed the Lakers to get within single digits after the first basket of the second quarter. What's more impressive is that the Pacers did all this despite playing without their star Victor Oladipo, and it was in the second game of a back-to-back games after a four-game road trip.

Indiana scored 33 points off 19 Los Angeles turnovers. They outscored them 25-15 on fast break points while limiting them to just 4 of 21 shooting (19.0 percent) from 3-point range. LeBron James missed three of his first five shots and finished with 18 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and six turnovers. He exited the game with 2:06 left the third quarter.

Celtics win in Cleveland without Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving missed the game with a strained left hip. Jayson Tatum stepped up with 25 points to lead the Celtics to a 103-96 road win against the Cavaliers last Tuesday. Gordon Hayward had 18 points, six rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes off the bench. Marcus Smart finished with 17 points and Jaylen Brown added 13.

The Celtics were out-rebounded 47-42 but they limited the Cavs to just 9 of 33 shooting (27.3 percent) from beyond the arc. They outscored them 16-2 on fast break points. Irving, who averages a team-best 23.8 points per game, is expected to play against the Lakers, hours after the NBA trade deadline.

It's clear that the talented young players of the Lakers have quit on LeBron James and the Lakers. James, and management, only have themselves to blame. They made very public trade negotiations involving half of the team for Anthony Davis.

If this Anthony Davis trade doesn't go through, James will be stuck with this mess. If a deal is made, who will be on the court for the Lakers?

I don't see the Lakers scoring enough points to be competitive on the road against a Celtics team that is playing extremely well. Boston ranks third in the NBA in defensive efficiency, allowing 102.8 points per 100 possessions. I like them to control the pace of the game and get key stops.

What Lakers Team Will show up for Celtics?

There are several heated rivalries in the NBA, but one stands above them all: The Lakers and Celtics. The Los Angeles Lakers (27-27 SU, 24-29-1 ATS) versus the Boston Celtics (35-19 SU, 27-26-1 ATS). They’ll meet for the first time this season on Thursday. With the NBA trade deadline today who knows what p;auers will be on the court.

James (groin) made his return from a 17-game absence last Thursday. He played 40 minutes against the Los Angeles Clippers. He then missed the following game against the Golden State Warriors after feeling sore. He’s officially listed as day-to-day; so are Lonzo Ball (ankle) and Ivica Zubac (finger). They could also find themselves shipped out of town before Thursday’s trade deadline if the Lakers are serious about acquiring Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Kyrie Irving (hip) is wrapped up in the Davis situation, too. Is he planning to leave Boston during the off-season and reunite with James in Los Angeles? Preferably with his good pal Davis joining them?

Los Angeles is in hot pursuit of disgruntled New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis. They want to pair him with superstar LeBron James and have offered up just about every young player on the roster in negotiations. Kyle Kuzma, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball are bait. The rumors left the Lakers looking lifeless at Indiana on Tuesday. They suffered the worst loss of James' career 136-94 while Ingram and company were serenaded with "LeBron's gonna trade you" chants at the free-throw line.

The Celtics would very much like to get into the Davis trade discussions but have to wait until July 1st. They would love to pair him with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving. Boston is winners of 10 of their last 11 games and eased past the Cleveland Cavaliers 103-96 on the road Tuesday despite missing Irving, center Aron Baynes and forward Marcus Morris.

James sat on the end of the bench with several empty seats between him and the rest of his teammates toward the end of Tuesday's setback. He acknowledged that what the young players are going through isn't easy. "I know it has to be tough on a lot of our guys, especially our young guys," James told reporters. "Right now, they've just never been a part of it and they're hearing it every single day -- and I know that the worst thing that you can do right now is be on social media. And I know all young guys love social media. So, that definitely can't help." The Lakers dropped 13 of 20 games since James went down with a groin injury on Dec. 25 and sit in 10th place in the Western Conference. James (32,008) became the fifth player in NBA history to reach 32,000 points on Tuesday.

Boston is not expected to make any big moves before of Thursday's deadline. They already enjoy enviable depth on a team that took James and the Cleveland Cavaliers to the seventh game of the Eastern Conference finals last season. One difference from last season is the health of swingman Gordon Hayward. He is battling some inconsistency but put up 18 points on 9-of-14 shooting, six rebounds and five assists off the bench on Tuesday.

Warriors Host the Spurs in Late ESPN Game

Warriors Look to Build Momentum Against Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors will both meet on Wednesday at Oracle Arena. The Warriors struggled to find enough energy to compete in two games at home after a long road trip. They managed to split the two. Tonight they will try to secure a winning three-game homestand. The Warriors will play three of five at home leading up to the All-Star break as they try to build momentum for the stretch run.

They needed an injection of energy in the form of a DeMarcus Cousins dunk on Saturday before pulling away for a 115-101 victory over the Lakers. The Spurs were enjoying a five-game winning streak before beginning the annual rodeo road trip with a 127-112 loss at the Sacramento Kings on Monday. San Antonio has seven stops left on a road trip. The trip spans the All-Star break and includes trips to Portland and Utah this week.

The San Antonio Spurs are 32-23 overall on the season. San Antonio went 2-4 on the rodeo road trip last season. They also got off to an inauspicious start this year while allowing its most points in a loss since falling 139-105 at Utah on Dec. 4. The Spurs allowed the upstart Kings to shoot 55.6 percent from the floor. The Spurs were outscored by 11 points in the second half. One positive was an offensive breakout from guard DeMar DeRozan. He scored 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting after going 8-of-26 from the floor in the previous two outings.

The Golden State Warriors are 37-15 overall on the season. The biggest challenge over the final two months of the regular season will be getting Cousins up to speed. He missed the first 45 games recovering from Achilles surgery. The 28-year-old is averaging 14.4 points on 43.6 percent shooting in seven games. Kevin Durant is 4-of-23 from 3-point range over the last five games.

The Bulldogs went 3-2 during a five-game stretch in which they played four times on the road after winning at Mississippi 81-75. They got 27 points from Quinndary Weatherspoon. Mississippi State owns a 10-1 record at home but will face consecutive rugged tests against No. 22 LSU and No. 5 Kentucky on Saturday.

He was among 10 players nominated for the Bob Cousy Award as the nation's top point guard. Waters is averaging 6.0 assists, handing out at least 10 on four occasions. He has registered an SEC-leading 3.0 steals per game. Super Frosh Naz Reid is already projected to be a high pick in this year's NBA Draft. He snapped out of a two-game shooting slump with his second double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds versus the Razorbacks.

Mississippi State is 16-5 overall and 4-4 in the SEC. Reggie Perry is coming on strong in his first season with the Bulldogs. Leading scorer Quinndary Weatherspoon averaged 20.8 points over the past five games on 53.1 percent shooting (34 of 64). Mississippi State has won 14 in a row when Weatherspoon scores 20 points.

League-Leading Bucks Host Wizards

Wizards Face a Blistering Hot Bucks Team

The Milwaukee Bucks (39-13 SU, 30-19-3 ATS) have the best record in the NBA, but they’re only fourth at +1100 on the NBA championship futures market. A win this Wednesday on prime-time ESPN should help raise their profile. The Bucks are rolling along with wins in four straight and nine of their last 10 games. They just finished up another successful road trip which included a win at the Washington Wizards.

Milwaukee has two players on the All-Star team this year. No doubt it’s their two leading scorers: MVP candidate Giannis Antetokounmpo (28.9 points per 36 minutes) and Khris Middleton (20.1 points). Their “true” second-best player is point guard Eric Bledsoe who is averaging 19.3 points, 6.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds per game. He’s already been ruled out for Wednesday’s game with a sore left Achilles. Jason Smith (knee) and Donte DiVincenzo (heel) will also sit this one out.

The Wizards (+12500 to win the title) are 9-9 SU and 11-7 ATS since they lost perennial All-Star John Wall to season-ending heel surgery. Bradley Beal has stepped up offensively and earned his second All-Star nod. He has a career-high 24.0 points per 36 minutes. Dwight Howard (back) and Markieff Morris (neck) remain out for Washington. They lost 131-115 to the Bucks on Saturday as 6.5-point home dogs.

Milwaukee dropped the opener of its five-game trip at Oklahoma City on Jan. 27. They rebounded by blasting through Detroit, Toronto, Washington and Brooklyn by an average of 14.5 points. It was capped by Monday's 113-94 triumph over the Nets. The Wizards surrendered 131 points in the loss to Milwaukee on Saturday. They were even worse on the defensive end in a 137-129 home loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.

This, That, and a Dart Throw

Wizards  All-Star shooting guard Bradley Beal is carrying a heavy load in the absence of fellow All-Star guard John Wall. He scored 20 or more for the seventh straight game with 27 on Monday. Shooting guard Jordan McRae didn't find a spot in the rotation until last week, but is making up for lost time. He went 8-of-11 from the floor in 26 minutes while scoring 20 points on Monday. PG Tomas Satoransky handed out at least six assists in each of the last eight games.

Milwaukee superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo collected 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting, 15 rebounds and nine assists in Monday's win. He was most excited about his three blocks and a team defense that held the Nets to 32.4 percent shooting. That included only allowing 5-of-42 from 3-point range. Brook Lopez recorded at least one block in 10 straight contests and is averaging 2.1.

Raptors overcome Clippers

The Raptors are coming off a 121-103 win against the Clippers last Sunday. Kawhi Leonard had 18 points and Serge Ibaka scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. It was his sixth straight double-double (the longest streak by any Raptors player since Chris Bosh had eight in November 2009). Kyle Lowry didn't play due to a back injury. C.J. Miles and Pascal Siakam stepped up with 15 points apiece and Delon Wright added 14.

Lowry's status against the 76ers is questionable. That means that the Raptors will need Miles, Siakam and Wright to have big games once again. Fred VanVleet, who started in Lowry's place against the Clippers, had nine points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals in 26 minutes. He can also make a difference.

Their incredible depth has helped the Raptors go 8-4 without Lowry and 11-3 without Leonard this season. They also have an impressive 16-11 road record, The 76ers are 21-5 at home, so this will be a great challenge for them.

76ers can't keep up with Kings

The 76ers open a four-game home-stand after suffering a 115-108 road loss against the Kings last Saturday. J.J. Redick (rest) and Wilson Chandler (quad) didn't play in Sacramento and Chandler will be out for at least two weeks.

Joel Embiid finished with 29 points and 17 rebounds but he was just 9-for-24 from the field. Jimmy Butler also had 29 points (18 in the fourth quarter) and he converted two four-point plays. He added seven assists, four rebounds and playing outstanding defense.

Ben Simmons also played well, by adding 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists but poor shooting doomed the 76ers. They made just 7 of 33 3-point shots while getting out-rebounded 50-46.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack and the North Carolina Tar Heels will battle on Tuesday at Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill. The Wolfpack have lost three of four, causing them to drop out of the Top 25. The Tar Heels have won five in a row and climbed to No. 8 in the latest poll.

N.C. State's loss on Saturday was a historic one. The team scored the fewest points by a ranked team in the shot-clock era. They got hammered in a 47-24 loss to Virginia Tech. North Carolina got some revenge on Saturday. They got a win at Louisville 79-69. That was three weeks after the Cardinals crushed the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Wolfpack are 16-6 overall, and 4-5 in the ACC on the season. The Wolfpack average 81.6 points per game. which is 30th in Division I. They hit just 9-of-54 shots. This resulted in the lowest field-goal percentage in a game in the history of the ACC. That is only 16.7%. Yes you read that correctly. N.C. State was 2-of-28 from 3-point range. The output was low-lighted by Braxton Beverly's 0-for-9 performance beyond the arc. If there was a positive for the Wolfpack to take away from the game, it was on defense. They limited the Hokies to 35.6 percent shooting while winning the turnover battle 12-10. Despite averaging over 80 points per game, N.C. State hasn't cracked the 80-point plateau in six consecutive games.

The Tar Heels are 17-4 overall and 7-1 in the ACC for the season. Luke Maye had a game-high 20 points on 7-of-18 shooting. He also had 11 Windex's. Three other Tar Heels hit double figures in scoring. Cameron Johnson had 20, Garrison Brooks scored 12, and Kenny Williams chipped in 10. North Carolina was dominant inside against the Cardinals. They won the rebounding battle 49-32, including 18-7 on the offensive glass. Maye had 21 points and 11 rebounds against the Wolfpack earlier this season.
