Phillies and Diamondbacks in Rubber Match of 3-game Series

Diamondbacks Baseball

Phils and DBacks in Tight Battle for Wild Card

The Arizona Diamondbacks aren't going away and will attempt to get a little closer to the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League wild-card race tonight. They host the Phillies in the rubber match of their three-game series. With last nights 84 win, Arizona pulled within 2-1/2 games of Philadelphia for the second wild card spot.

TV: 9:40 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia, FS Arizona; LINE: Diamondbacks -140; O/U: 9.5 Under -120.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies LH Jason Vargas (6-5, 3.93 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zac Gallen (1-3, 2.72)

Eduardo Escobar set a career high with 84 RBI's last season. It did last long as he has a major league-leading 92 after driving in three runs for the Diamondbacks last night. It included a two-run homer that increased his personal-best total to 25. David Peralta missed 14 games last month with a shoulder injury, and he homered for the first time in 32 games as well. He is 8-for-23 with six RBI's in his last six games.

The Phillies are one game behind Washington for the first wild card spot in the National League. They hold a one-half game lead over St. Louis for the second one. After falling to 12-11 since the All-Star break they have no one to blame but themselves. Last night was their third loss in the teams last five contests. Jason Vargas takes the mound on Wednesday after an encouraging debut with Philadelphia. He opposes rookie Zac Gallen, who makes his first start for the Diamondbacks.

This, That, and a Dart Throw

Vargas settled for a no-decision in his last outing for the Phillies. He allowed two runs and five hits, while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings. Philadelphia had a 4-3 loss in 15 innings to the Chicago White Sox in the game on Friday. Vargas won his last three starts with the New York Mets. He posted a 2.50 ERA during that stretch with 17 strikeouts in 18 innings. Vargas is 2-3 with a 6.82 ERA in six starts against the Diamondbacks. OF Adam Haseley went 3-for-4 on Tuesday. He chalked up two RBI's for his fifth multi-hit game in the last 10 tilts. He has raised his average 75 points to .280.

Gallen yielded two runs, four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in his last outing for the Diamondbacks. He pitched seven innings in a tough-luck 2-1 loss to Minnesota on July 30th in his final start with Miami. The former third-round pick by St. Louis in the 2016 draft hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his seven career starts. He has rang up 43 strikeouts in 36-1/3 innings. Gallen is reunited with catcher Carson Kelly. The two were teammates in the Cardinals' organization. Alex Avila has gone 5-for-17 with two home runs against the Phillies' Vargas. CF Ketel Marte (NL-most 139 hits) has hit safely in all 10 of his games versus the Phillies (16-for-39) after going 1-for-4 on Tuesday.

Blue Jays Face Red-Hot Rays at Tropicana

Tampa Bay Rays Baseball

Young Talent Getting Look for Blue Jays

Bo Bichette and the Toronto Blue Jays will head south to St. Petersburg, Florida to take on the surging Tampa Bay Rays this Tuesday. It’ll be the second game of a three-game series. The playoff-hopeful Rays currently occupy the second Wild Card spot in the AL following an 8-3 run, which included a six-game winning streak until last night. The Blue Jays take aim at their seventh win in nine tries Tuesday when they continue a three-game set in Tampa Bay against the Rays.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), FS Sun (Tampa Bay); LINE: Rays -193; O/U: 8.5 Under -113.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Trent Thornton (4-7, 5.23 ERA) vs. Rays RH Andrew Kittredge (1-0, 2.52)

The Jays’ trip to Florida will be a homecoming of sorts for the recent call-up Bichette. He is from Orlando, so it should be a fun series for the rookie standout.

Since being called up to the Show on July 29th Bo Bichette has shown what he’s capable of. The SS is batting at a torrid .406 pace, including two home runs and five doubles. Bichette has a hit in each of the seven games he’s played for the Jays.

Toronto ripped off a season-high five straight victories after stumbling to a 6-10 record following the All-Star break. They backtracked a bit over the weekend in Baltimore. After riding the red-hot bat of 20-year-old Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the bulk of that run, Bo Bichette backed a five-hit shutout from fellow rookie Jacob Waguespack and three relievers. He accounted for both runs in the Blue Jays' 2-0 win on Monday.

The shutout was a shock to the system for the Rays. They had scored at least six runs in a team-record seven straight contests. The last six were wins. The team stranded seven runners and finished 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Tampa Bay remained one-half game ahead of Oakland for the second wild card in the American League. They fell nine games behind the New York Yankees atop the AL East.

This, That, and a Blue Jays & Rays Dart Throw

The Blue Jays' Thornton returned from a brief stay on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. He made a conscious effort to relax during Thursday's win in Baltimore. He allowed one run on five hits and no walks over six innings. Thornton has faced Tampa Bay twice this season, going 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA. Bichette on Monday joined Jesse Barfield (1981) and Ryan Goins (2013) as the only players in team history to begin their careers with a hitting streak of at least eight games.

The Rays' Kittredge will make his second appearance in three days after closing out Tampa Bay's 7-2 win against Miami on Sunday. He permitted one unearned run over two innings. Kittredge produced a similar line when he opened at Boston on Wednesday. He yielded one unearned run on two hits while striking out three in 2-1/3 innings. Kittredge also got the start four days earlier in Toronto, allowing two runs despite fanning seven across three innings in a no-decision.

DH-1B Jesus Aguilar became the 13th player to bat cleanup for the Rays this season. He is 5-for-11 with a homer, two RBI's and four runs scored in four games since arriving from Milwaukee at the trade deadline.

Green Party wants Action on Gun Violence

After the latest mass shooting in the U.S., the Green Party Green Party wants Action on Gun Violence.  Thus, are calling for Congress to make quick and conclusive move following the terrible mass shooting on August 3.  The mass shooting that took place at the Cielo Vista Mall Walmart area in El Paso, Texas, left at any rate 20 dead.

Furthermore, the next day another shooting took place in Dayton, Ohio that left 9 individuals dead and 16 injured. This current end of the week's brutality pursues on the impact points of a shooting in Gilroy, California, which left 3 individuals dead and 13 injured. There have been 32 mass shootings in the United States this year.

GPUS co-seat Kristin Combs called the episode "stunning to all Greens," saying, "We express our ardent sympathies to the people in question and their families. These horrendous assaults demonstrate that our networks are excessively helpless against this kind of silly savagery. We should make a move that will end these severe mass killings."

As indicated by media sources, the El Paso shooter utilized an AK-47, a military weapon, to submit the intolerable bloodbath. The shooter is indicated to have composed a statement identified with the shooting, considering the demonstration a reaction to "The Hispanic intrusion of Texas."

Action against Gun Violence Needs a Solution Now

Green Party wants Action on Gun Violence"The purposeful publicity that prompts this scorn towards our Latinx people group abuses the beliefs this nation as far as anyone knows represents," said GPUS co-seat Justin Beth. "We require a conclusion to the supremacist talk that outcomes in demonstrations of savagery against our kindred individuals."

"Weapon savagery has turned into a national crisis in the United States," said GPUS co-seat Trahern Crews. "The Green Party is shocked that the US Congress has neglected to follow up on the issue of firearm brutality that objectives normal residents in our schools, diversion settings and malls. Our individuals the nation over are requesting that Congress establish reasonable firearm control enactment that will help defend individuals from careless mass killings. We can't enable our networks to keep on being desolated by these arbitrary, obliterating vicious acts."

According to latest political news, the Green Party wants a restriction on offers of ambush weapons. The Green Party stage calls for "Mindful, painstakingly considered firearm control, for example, is contained in the Brady Bill (1993)." It further calls for taking out the weapon show proviso that grants clearance of weapons without record verifications. Moreover, the gathering's stage looks for an augmentation of individual verifications to every private clearance of guns.

Tribe Host Halos After Major Trade

Cleveland Indians Baseball

Indians and Angels Look for Big 2nd Halves

Baseball fans in Cleveland have seen their team go through some ups and downs this year. After starting the second half host as a pistol the Tribe have vaulted into Wild Card position in the American League. They look to make some more inroads this weekend against the fading Halos. This is the second game of the three game series.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1; LINE: Indians -145; O/U: 10 Under -115.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Angels TBD vs. Indians RH Adam Plutko (3-2, 4.83 ERA)

The Tribe sent Trevor Bauer to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday in a three-way deal that sees OF Yasiel Puig come over from Cincinnati. They also got several prospects from the Padres. Bauer was an All-Star for Cleveland this year.

This, That, and a Dart Throw

Yasiel Puig has made an impression in his first two outings with his new team. Puig stroked a double and had a stolen base in his debut. He then went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's on Friday as the Indians took the series opener 7-3. They were able to increase their lead to two games for the top American League wild card.

Carlos Santana knocked in two runs to push his team-leading RBI total to 62. Roberto Perez slammed his career-high 19th homer on Friday, as well, for Cleveland. The Tribe now trails Minnesota by three games in the AL Central. They have gone 35-15 since June 4th. Adam Plutko goes after his first victory since June 14 when he takes the mound for the Indians tonight.

The Angels have not announced a starter, but Felix Pena (8-3, 4.66 ERA) is slated to come on in the second or third inning. Los Angeles looked as though it may make a run after sweeping a pair from its cross-city rival Dodgers on July 23rd-24th. They were able to extend a winning streak to four but have dropped six of eight since. They are seven games back in the AL wild-card chase. Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with a solo homer Friday after going deep 13 times in July. The Angels will need to get more from outfielder Justin Upton if they want to make a run. He is 1-for-24 over the last seven games.

Tribe and Halos Both Need Good Pitching Down the Stretch

The Angels' Pena has permitted 13 runs, 10 earned, over 13 1/3 innings in three outings since being involved in a combined no-hitter on July 12. The 29-year-old gave up four runs (one earned), on three hits, and three walks over five innings last Sunday. He got no-decision against Baltimore in his sixth start of the season. Francisco Lindor is 1-for-2 with a double and a walk versus Pena, who is 5-2 with a 4.42 ERA in eight road games (one start) in 2019.

Plutko, of the Indians, has not pitched since July 25th. He limited Kansas City to three runs on seven hits over 5 1/3 innings. He received a no-decision to extend his winless stretch to six games. Plutko has walked just eight batters in 54 innings this year. He has struggled with the home run ball with 15 allowed, five in his past three starts. Upton and Brian Goodwin have homered against Plutko. He faces the Angels for the first time in his career.

Sportsbook Report of Klay Thompson Injury

The Klay Thompson injury in Game 6 of the NBA Finals is one of the most tragic events in sports. In addition, the Golden State forward was humbled when the team offered him a max contract for five years.

Thompson said he knew he got hurt, but he didn’t expect it to be as severe as an ACL injury. He told a pay per head sportsbook provider that his adrenaline level was high during the game that he thought it was just a sprained knee.

When he got back to the locker room, he didn’t feel right. He felt helpless as his knee swelled up. The Klay Thompson injury will take a long recovery time. In fact, the star player doubted he will be back before this year’s All-Star break. Prop bets by a sportsbook software solution firm have him going back before the start of the playoffs.

Klay Thompson Injury Report

Sportsbook Report of Klay Thompson Injury

Thompson doesn’t want to rush his recovery. He wants to play until he is 40 years old. In addition, he said the Warriors was lucky to extend their success without a lot of injuries like they did in the Finals.

After Thompson went down with an ACL injury, the team lost Kevin Durant to an Achilles injury. The Warriors had a five-year run without major injuries. Although there were some minor ones along the way, they were not as traumatic as what happened to Thompson and Durant.

Golden State showed its loyalty to Thompson by offering him the maximum contract deal worth $190 million. In fact, he signed the contract right away because of his history with the team. Also, he said there is unfinished business after getting close to winning the championship once again.

In addition, Thompson is confident that the Warriors remain competitive despite losing Durant and other key players. Reading bookie tutorials is the last thing he has in mind during his recovery period. He’ll come back stronger than before and is looking forward to playing with D’Angelo Russell.

Democratic Party - Big Promises that Never Get Done

Whatever happened to the Democratic Party of old that was supposed to represent the common man?  In the past decades, all you ever see about coming out of a Democrat's mouth is about impeaching their opponents or calling them racists. According to several political news websites, you just heat about their Big Promises that Never Get Done.

With Robert Mueller's appalling execution driving a stake through the core of the previous, race is taking care of business as a characterizing issue in the current week's second round of presidential discussions. Heck, even the New York Times said “The searing fight over race, inequality and history has come to dominate the Democratic presidential contest.”

Needles to say, I am getting fed up with their crap.  It seems like today, they only care about getting elected by whatever mean is necessary.  This usually involves smearing campaigns and passing the blame on other people.  Yeah, politics is dirty but Democrats seem to take it to the next level.

Baltimore Democrats Leaving Residents Hanging

Baltimore Democrats Leaving Baltimore Residents HangingHere is a great example that Trump made about the plight of residents in Baltimore. I feel incredible compassion toward the situation of the devastated natives of Maryland's seventh Congressional District. For a considerable length of time the Democrats have guaranteed them employments, great schools and safe networks.

Inhabitants hung tight calmly for the Promised Land, just to find the Democrats' arrangements had transformed their congressional region into a tragic no man's land.

The general population of Baltimore swore their devotion to Democrats in City Hall and Washington.  However,in the end they just to be sold out, their locale transformed into a dumping ground for the political decision class.

Rather than tending to the curse and foulness in his congressional area, Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings has been taking shameful moves at Border Patrol operators and the Trump organization's treatment of the illicit settler attack.

MLB Monday Betting Pick- Dodgers at Rockies

Colorado Rockies

Dodgers Look to get out of Funk Against Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers kickoff a three-game series on the road against the NL West rival Colorado Rockies on Monday night. BetAnySports opened Los Angeles as a -132 road favorite for the 8:40 p.m. start with the total set at 12.5. The line has now moved to the Dodgers -123 and the total has settled at 13.

The Dodgers have lost three of their last five games but they still have the best record in baseball at 69-38. They did manage to take two of three on the road this weekend against Washington as part of a 29-24 record on the road this year. Los Angeles is cruising towards another NL West Division title with a 14.5-game lead over San Francisco.

It is easy to see why Los Angeles is the most complete team in the Majors. It is at the top of the list in the National League in scoring with an average of 5.4 runs a game. Its pitching staff is also ranked first in the NL with a 3.37 team ERA. Look for Kenta Meada to get the start for the Dodgers in the series opener. The right hander has a 3.81 ERA with a 1.06 WHIP through 20 previous starts.

Rockies Struggling as well

Colorado has only posted a trio of wins over its last 14 games. It dropped two of three against Cincinnati on the road this past weekend while scoring just three total runs in the last two games. The total has stayed UNDER BetAnySports’ closing line in four of its last six games. The Rockies have sunk to the bottom of the NL West standings with an overall record of 49-57. They kick off this week’s six-game homestand at 26-24 after losing five of their last six games played at home.

With an average of 5.36 runs per game, Colorado is second on the list in scoring in the NL. With a staff ERA of 5.47, the Rockies slide all the way to last in the NL in pitching. Jon Gray is expected to get the start on Monday night. The right hander only lasted four innings his last time out on July 24, but he did hold Washington to one earned run on two hits. His overall ERA stands at 4.05 with a 1.40 WHIP.

Colorado has lost eight of its first 10 games against the Dodgers this season to swing things heavily in favor of the road team getting the early edge in this series opener.

Braves Go for 2nd Straight Over Phillies

Phillies Baseball

Fried Back from Blister on Finger to Face Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies face the NL East leading Atlanta Braves on Saturday evening. This is the 2nd game of a 3 game series that could set the tone for the rest of the season in the battle for the division crown. The Braves look to take care of business before heading to Washington to face the 2nd place Nationals.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FS South (Atlanta), NBC 10 (Philadelphia); LINE: Braves -121; O/U: 10 Under -112.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves LH Max Fried (10-4, 4.08 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Zach Eflin (7-10, 4.25)

The Philadelphia Phillies had won 15 of their past 25 games entering a huge weekend series at home against the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves. They come into Saturday after a sloppy performance sent them to a 9-2 defeat in the series opener. The Phillies play was not up to standard. They committed two errors, saw starter Jake Arrieta give up five runs, and reliever Cole Irvin walk in two runs. The messiness caused the team to lose for just the second time in seven games and drop 6 1/2 games behind Atlanta in the standings.

Shortstop Jean Segura finished 3-for-5 on the night. That gives him a team-high nine, three-hit games this season. The Phillies went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position to seal their fate. They left nine on base to fall to 2-5 against the Braves since sweeping Atlanta in the opening series of the season. The Braves were in somewhat of a funk. The team only averaged 3.4 runs and 8.5 hits while losing six of eight coming into Friday. They posted back-to-back four-run innings to finish with their highest-scoring game since scoring 12 against the Phillies on July 4th. Outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. extended the majors' longest current on-base streak to 30 games. He young phenom ended with two hits, driving home three runs and stealing his 10th base in the past 11 games. Catcher Brian McCann continued his renaissance. He homered en route to a 2-for-4 performance, raising his average to .387 in his past eight games. Atlanta extended its lead in the East over second-place Washington to 5 1/2 games.

This, That, and a Braves and Phillies Dart Throw

The Braves, Fried returns from a blister on his hand. The blister ended his last start at Milwaukee, on July 15th, after five innings. The kid was on a roll as well by giving up only three-hits of scoreless pitching. The injury landed him on the injured list. Fried has struggled at times in his first full season in the major league rotation. He had a 6.17 ERA with a .339 opponents batting average during his previous eight starts before the Milwaukee outing. He had given up three earned runs or fewer four times in that span. Fried surrendered five runs on seven hits over 4-2/3 innings against the Phillies on June 14th. Fried also made two scoreless relief appearances against them in late March. RF Nick Markakis has appeared in 270 consecutive games, which is the longest active streak in the majors. He left Friday's game in the sixth inning after being hit with a pitch on the left wrist. Manager Brian Snitker told reporters post-game the injury, "doesn't look good."

The Phillies, Eflin began the month with a difficult outing against the Braves on July 4th. He surrendered seven runs (six earned), on seven hits over three innings in a 12-6 loss. He followed that by allowing seven runs on nine hits across six innings on July 15th against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Efflin rebounded somewhat in his last outing July 20 at Pittsburgh. He gave up three runs, on five hits, with no walks, and three strikeouts over four innings. Eflin has allowed six earned runs or more in three of his past five outings. Heis 5-3 with a 3.88 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in eight home starts this season.

The teams enter Friday at the top of their respective divisions with a combined record of 9-1. A matchup in which both teams have played at least five games and have one loss combined is extremely rare. This scenario has unfolded only five times since 1958.

There is little to separate the Tiger-Cats and the Bombers statistically. Hamilton has the most points-per-game, while Winnipeg has the second-most. The Blue Bombers have the fewest points allowed per game and the Tiger-Cats have the second fewest. Tonight's matchup should be a real slobber-knocker.

The Blue Bombers defense could get even better with Adam Bighill returning to the lineup tonight. The reigning CFL Most Outstanding Defensive Player hasn’t seen any action since Week 3. His addition makes the Bomber defense even more of a threat. Bighill re-entering the lineup will only improve an already stingy Winnipeg run defense. The Bombers have given up a mere 59.2 rushing yards per game. It is unsurprisingly the lowest in the league.

Hamilton is still without starting running back Sean Thomas Erlington. If they are unable to establish the ground game early, it could be a long night for the Tiger-Cats. The three backs listed on the Hamilton depth chart – Maleek Irons, Anthony Coombs and Jackson Bennett only have 35 carries between them this year. If Hamilton struggles on the ground, expect a big game from Masoli. The seasoned quarterback already has two games of 400 passing yards or more this season. He has thrown more than 30 passes in four of his five games this year.

This, That, and a CFL Dart Throw

Masoli's counterpart at quarterback is winning ball games, despite not lighting up the stat sheet. Matt Nichols has only tossed one pick in 2019 despite averaging 9.1 yards per completion. The way he takes care of the ball is a key to the offense. Nichols has not thrown for over 300 yards yet, which is unbelievable, but his team is nevertheless 5-0.

Hamilton will get a big boost on the offensive line. Dependable tackle Chris Van Zeyl will see his first action since July 4. The Tiger-Cats have one of the finest pass protection units in the league. The excelling unit has allowed only seven sacks over their five games. But with Van Zeyl out of the lineup last game, the Calgary Stampeders got to Masoli four times.

The Blue Bombers have nine sacks this season. Jackson Jeffcoat has three to his name. Masoli has been leaned on by the Tiger-Cats, and the Blue Bombers cannot afford to let him get comfortable in the pocket. This will be especially important if the Hamilton run game fails to get going.

Friday’s matchup will pit two long time teammates against one another as head coaches. Mike O’Shea and Orlondo Steinauer played on the same defense for nine years. They had one year, in 2000, with the Tiger-Cats. Then from 2001-2008 they were members of the Toronto Argonauts. They helped them in winning the Grey Cup together in 2004.

The Tiger-Cats are looking to make it four straight victories at Tim Hortons Field. This will be for the first time since they opened the stadium with an eight-game winning streak in 2014.

The Dart Throw: Blue Bombers 34, Tiger-Cats 30.

Blue Jays Host Rays in AL East Matchup

Toronto Blue Jays

Rays Need a Good Series Against the Blue Jays

A three-game set between AL East rivals will kick off this Friday when the Tampa Bay Rays head to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays. The Rays find themselves, in the thick of a five-team battle for just two AL Wild Card spots. After dropping seven of nine games, the Rays sit 9.5 games back of the division-leading New York Yankees, and are 1/2 game ahead of the Boston Red Sox. They’ll turn their sights to Toronto in hopes of turning things around in this critical stretch of play.

TV: 7:07 p.m. ET, FS Sun (Tampa Bay), Sportsnet (Toronto); LINE: Rays -135; O/U: 9.5 Under -120.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Diego Castillo (1-6, 3.96 ERA) vs. Blue Jays RH Jacon Waguespack (1-0, 5.68)

The Tampa Bay Rays, who appeared to be in a comfortable position for a playoff spot at the beginning of the month, are on the outside looking in right now. They begin a six-game road trip Friday with the first of three contests against the Blue Jays. The Rays dropped seven of their last nine outings, but averted a sweep at home against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday. They fought out a 3-2 victory to move within a game of the second wild card in the American League.

"That was a big win," Tampa Bay infielder Joey Wendle, who is 7-for-19 with three doubles in his last seven games, told reporters after Wednesday's victory. "If they come in and sweep us at home, that's not what you're looking for at this time of year." The Rays announced Thursday that reigning American League Cy Young winner Blake Snell would undergo arthroscopic elbow surgery and will be lost for at least a month. Reliever Diego Castillo gets the ball to start Friday's game.

The Blue Jays will open the series with rookie Jacob Waguespack on the mound. They are 5-8 since the All-Star break, but have dropped three of their last four. The offense only managed eight runs combined after scoring 19 times in their previous two games. Eric Sogard is 8-for-27 in his last six games, and had the only hit in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to Cleveland. Rookie slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had a walk and is 9-for-20 with five RBI's in his last six games for Toronto.

This, That, and a AL East Dart Throw

Things are clearer for the Jays. They’re committed to the rebuilding process, and are reveling in opportunities to upset their rivals. As part of rebuilding, young pitchers like Jacob Waguespack get opportunities to showcase themselves. Waguespack will get his third-straight start on Friday as he attempts to prove that he belongs at the Big-League level. The 25-year-old Ole Miss product allowed seven runs on 15 hits. He rang up nine strikeouts and three walks across 10 innings combined over a pair of no-decisions in his first two big league starts. Waguespack gave up three runs, two earned, and three hits with seven strikeouts over four frames in relief against Tampa Bay on May 27 in his major league debut. Toronto LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is 6-for-20 with a homer, four doubles and a team-high six RBI's in six games against the Rays in 2019. The Blue Jays entered Thursday with the worst team batting average in the majors at .231.

The Rays, Castillo is slated to open a game for the first time this season after starting 11 times last season. He gave up five runs over 17 innings along with 21 strikeouts. Ryan Yarbrough (8-3, 3.93 ERA) could be called upon to follow Castillo and the lefty is unbeaten in his last six appearances and going 3-0 in the process. He has permitted a total of three runs over 27 1/3 innings. Randal Grichuk is 2-for-5 with a double versus Yarbrough. He is 2-0 this year without allowing a run and 5-0 lifetime with a 2.08 ERA against Toronto. Tampa Bay LF Tommy Pham, who has doubled against Waguespack, was 4-for-12 with two doubles, a homer and three RBIs in the series versus Boston.
