Carl Edwards recorded his first victory of the season on Sunday after taking the checkered flag in the Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Tony Stewart finished second on Sunday and it moved him into first place in the driver standings. Stewart is tied with Kurt Busch with 113 points, but he holds the tie-breaker due to better early results to give him the top spot. With the win Edwards moved up to third in the standings with 106 points while former leader Kyle Busch dropped all the way down to 14th after finishing 38th on Sunday. Following Edwards and Stewart across the finish line at Las Vegas was Juan Pablo Montoya in third and Marcos Ambrose in fourth. Ryan Newman came fifth, Martin Truex Jr. was sixth and Denny Hamlin crossed the line seventh. Rounding out the rest of the Top 10 were Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch and Brian Vickers. The Sprint Cup Series takes a few weeks off before returning to the track on March 20 at Bristol Motor Speedway with the Jeff Byrd 500 presented by Food City.
