Point spread: New England -14.5 Over/Under: 46.5 The Kansas City Chiefs will try and snap a two-game skid this Monday night when they invade Gillette Stadium to tangle with the AFC East-leading New England Patriots. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
It is hard to know for sure what direction Kansas City's roller-coaster season will go next after a three-game losing streak to start the season, a four-game winning streak to get it back into contention, and losses in its last two games that has the team 4-5 straight-up (5-4 against the spread) and one game in back of Oakland in the AFC West.
Further down would be expected direction with a possible season-ending injury to quarterback Matt Cassel. The reins have been turned over to Tyler Palko, who will be making his first NFL start this Monday night. He takes over an offense that has already been struggling to put points on the board with an average of just 15.7 points a game. This has had a direct impact on the total, which has stayed ?under? in six of the Chiefs nine games.
New England's season has spiked back up after a rare two-game skid of its own with a dominating 37-16 victory over the Jets last Sunday as a 2.5-point road underdog. It is now 6-3 SU (5-4 ATS) and clinging to a one-game lead over New York and Buffalo in the division. The total has gone "over" in five of its first nine games.
The Patriots' offense has had little problem finding the end zone this season with an average of 28.8 points a game, but their defense remains one of the softest in the NFL. It is giving-up a league-worst 412 total yards a game. It is ranked last against the pass, but ninth against the run.
The Chiefs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games and the total has stayed "under" in their last four games against the AFC.
The Patriots are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against the AFC. The total has gone "over" in eight of their last 10 games as home favorites.
The spread on this game as been climbing all week long, but it is doubtful it will go high enough to for Kansas City to cover against the high-flying Patriots.
The Pick: New England 34 Kansas City 13
