NBA Odds: Young Thunder Favored Over Veteran San Antonio

Two of the league's model franchises will clash on the NBA betting lines this Sunday when the ready-and-waiting Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the veteran San Antonio Spurs. They may be on opposite sides of the wave but both look to factor into the Western Conference playoff picture in 2012.

After a conference finals loss to the eventual champion Dallas Mavericks last spring, Kevin Durant and the Thunder have learned the importance of handling veteran squads when faced with them. If nothing else, the early January tilt will be an opportunity for OKC to gauge their progress.

Have we finally reached an age where Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden trump descending superstar Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili? The former may be hitting the shelf with a hand injury, but that's not the only reason why NBA odds makers have pinned the Spurs as underdogs on the year.

With so much time left in the regular season before the playoff picture starts to take form it's near impossible to use early season success as a predictor of the future, but one thing is for sure: it won?t be Oklahoma's legs getting tired at the end of the last-minute season.

This weekend get a formal taste of the NBA's past and future, watch the battle of youth and wisdom unfold.
