NBA Odds: Dysfunctional Knicks Still Alive, Face Test Down the Stretch

Betting on New York Knicks Basketball

The New York Knicks are on the outside looking in at the Eastern
Conference playoff picture but still have time to get their foot in the
door as the regular season comes to a close. With just 150/1 odds of
winning, they’re far from a reassuring NBA betting choice, but there’s
no reason to believe that they can’t edge out the short-staffed Atlanta
Hawks for the eighth and final seed.

Led by the same disjointed roster that’s led them over the course of
the past few seasons, this year’s Knicks will hope for a miracle in the
event that they manage to sneak into the postseason. That, however, is
no knock on Carmelo Anthony.

Averaging 27.5 points per game, Melo has re-established himself as a
franchise player that fans (and bettors) can rely on. It’s that
surrounding cast that causes concern.

JR Smith trails Anthony for the team lead in scoring, but his is an
inconsistent presence that basketball fans would be wise to be nervous
about down the stretch. Smith’s unpredictability, coupled with Amar’e
Stoudemire’s injury history and Andrea Bargnani’s own shortcomings make
for an interesting club.

On the bright side, though, the Knicks have gotten some of the most
production they’ve had out of Stoudemire since Anthony arrived in New
York, and first-year wing Tim Hardaway Jr has fit in well with the Big
Apple culture.

This Friday the Knicks will put themselves on the line as they take
on their division rival Toronto Raptors. The Raps have already clinched
their postseason berth and should serve as a valuable gauging tool for
those interested in seeing how New York stacks up.
