The Detroit Pistons will continue their quest for a place in the NBA
postseason this Tuesday night as slight two-point road underdogs against
the Miami Heat. BetAnySports
has set the betting line for the total at 198 points and the 8 p.m.
(ET) tip from American Airlines Arena will be broadcast nationally on
TNT. Currently the line has risen to the Heat -4 while to total has been
hammered up to 202.
Detroit has gotten hot at the right time of the year with a straight-up
7-3 record over its last 10 games. It is now 41-36 overall after posting
a crucial 94-90 victory against rival Chicago (39-38) this past
Saturday to open-up a two-game lead over the Bulls for the eighth and
final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons covered as
three-point road underdogs on BetAnySports’ closing betting line in that
game and they are now 5-2 against the spread in their last seven
outings. The total stayed UNDER 206.5 and it has stayed UNDER in their
last three games.
Reggie Jackson has been Detroit’s leading scorer all season long with an
average of 18.5 points per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the
field. He also led the way against Chicago with a team-high 22 points
and all five starters ended that game in double figures. The Pistons
converted on 10-of-20 shots from three-point range to help pace the win.
Overall, they are ranked 17th in the NBA in scoring with 101.9 PPG and they improve to 12th at the other end of the court with a points-allowed average of 101.2 points.
Miami is caught in a three-way battle for the No. 3 seed in the East
with Atlanta and Boston. Right now it is a half-game back in fifth place
at 44-32 SU following Saturday’s 110-93 loss to Portland as a 6.5-point
road underdog on BetAnySports’ closing betting line. The total stayed
UNDER 209 in that game and it has stayed UNDER in four of their last
five games. Miami is now 6-4 SU in its last 10 games, but just 4-6 ATS.
It will return home from that three-game West Coast swing with a SU
25-13 (20-17-1 ATS) at American Airlines Arena this year.
The big question for Tuesday night’s matchup is the availability of the
Heat’s leading scorer Dwyane Wade (19.2 PPG). He has missed his last two
games with a sore back and he is currently listed as questionable.
Hassan Whiteside came off the bench to score a team-high 20 points in
Saturday’s game and Goran Dragic added 15 points in the losing cause.
Even if Wade can go, Miami’s best chance to win this game will still
hinge on its smothering defense. The Heat are ranked fourth in NBA in
points allowed this season (98.5).
I actually like Detroit on the road in this matchup in a SU win. The
team has been in great form lately and the Pistons actually need this
game much more than the Heat.
